Li Li stared at the grinning Bai Feifei, momentarily stunned. Then, quickly adopting the persona of a well-meaning mediator, she spoke up.
“Miss, how could you do this? We were just following protocol.”
“Doing it so directly...”
“Your surname is Li.” Xu Mo didn’t listen to her nonsense, his smile growing increasingly predatory. “Didn’t you know the camera on your person was reflecting light?”
“Did the Li family not tell you who I am?”
The smile on Li Li’s face instantly froze.
“What are you saying? There must be some mis—”
Before she could finish, Xu Mo blurred into motion, appearing in front of her with a sweeping kick.
With a sharp crack, the camera shattered into pieces, flying off her collar and bouncing onto the floor.
Li Li was sent flying by the impact. As a sharp pain flared in her chest, a pale gold light membrane flickered on her skin before slowly fading away.
—A light membrane inner armor.
“Heh.” Xu Mo raised an eyebrow. “Quite the collection of gear you have. Tsk, the Inner City’s equipment is indeed decent.”
Li Li coughed violently, unable to speak.
Xu Mo didn’t look at her again. He turned around, scanned the room, and stretched with a loud laugh.
“Hurry up! Anyone decent, get out of here. Don’t just send two small fry to test me!”
His voice echoed through the room, but no one responded.
Leaning against the wall and clutching her chest, Li Li watched this “Bai Feifei” in shock.
She finally realized that this person seemed completely unafraid of making mistakes in the Inner City.
She had intended to use the Inner City’s laws and rules to set a trap, but now she saw that this person didn’t care about rules at all!
Who exactly was this! The family elders had never mentioned this!
“Enjoying the show, are we...?” Xu Mo waited for a moment, a hint of tyranny slowly surfacing in his eyes.
He didn’t believe for a second that this was just two insignificant people coming to annoy him.
He didn’t care who was behind this. Since no one was stepping up, he was more than happy to escalate the conflict—it was what he did best.
What a pain. Every time he entered a new environment, he had to re-establish his persona.
“Stop!”
A voice suddenly rang out, laced with irrepressible annoyance, cutting in just as Xu Mo was about to start smashing the walls.
Xu Mo stopped and tilted his head to look.
Walking quickly down the stairs was a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
The badge on his chest displayed his position and name: Office Director, Liu Chen.
On Xu Mo’s game panel, the man’s level was displayed: Level 51.
Just a Rank 5 Scavenger. Trash...
Liu Chen hurried down, first glancing at the unconscious Zhao Jiaqi embedded in the wall, then at the pale-faced Li Li leaning against the wall, before finally fixing his gaze on Bai Feifei.
He took a deep breath and stared intently at “Bai Feifei.”
“Bai Feifei, I know who you are. But this is the Inner City, not the Outer City.”
“Do you have any idea what the consequences are for using violence in the Inner City, especially against administrative staff?!”
“You know me?” Xu Mo tilted his head. “If you know me, don’t you know the consequences of provoking me?”
Liu Chen’s expression shifted. “You...”
“You what?” Xu Mo stepped toward him. “Stop playing dumb.”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know the character of the people working under you.” Xu Mo stopped right in front of Liu Chen.
“One brainless idiot and one member of the Li family.”
“What, were you trying to see if I’d dare to kill someone in the Inner City?!”
Liu Chen’s lip twitched as he heard the murderous intent in her voice.
The staffing arrangement had indeed been somewhat deliberate, but it was meant to be a minor test at most. He had never expected such a violent reaction!
He tried to keep his tone steady. “You’ve misunderstood. Our staff were simply conducting normal business.”
“There was no intent to provoke. You shouldn’t have...”
“What do you mean I shouldn’t have?” Xu Mo interrupted immediately. “Do I need to follow your rules?”
“The Inner City isn’t like the Outer City? Well, I’m not like others either!”
“Are you satisfied with that answer? Or should you start calling for backup so we can get a real fight started?”
The words caught in Liu Chen’s throat.
Although he had received general information about Bai Feifei, he never imagined she would be such a lawless individual!
She was like a keg of gunpowder—one spark and she exploded. How could a normal person act like this?!
The contrast with her outward appearance was simply too vast.
Liu Chen grit his teeth. “The Inner City is no place for you to run wild, even if our staff may have been slightly in the wrong...”
“If you’re wrong, then admit it. Just apologize and be done with it.” Xu Mo shrugged, immediately taking advantage of the opening.
“I’m very easy to talk to. If you apologize, I might just accept it.”
The veins on Liu Chen’s forehead bulged.
You call this being easy to talk to?
A minor test, and you tore down my entire lobby!
A few harsh words from the staff, and you nearly committed murder!
But now, Liu Chen didn’t dare to actually make a move.
Testing was one thing, but if things escalated, he would be the one facing the consequences later.
He wasn’t sure what Prophet Liu Yun’s stance on her was, and if anyone looked too closely, he had indeed overstepped from the beginning.
He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his rage.
“...Make an appointment,” he said grimly. “We will schedule your rank test for a later date.”
Xu Mo blinked.
Seeing the other man back down made Xu Mo feel that things were getting a bit boring.
He had thought he could use this excuse to turn the whole place upside down, but that was it?
It seemed the green light the Prophet had given him was even brighter than he’d imagined...
“No time like the present,” Xu Mo said casually. “Let’s do it now.”
Liu Chen frowned. “There are big figures conducting tests at the training ground today. There’s no space available.”
Xu Mo’s eyes lit up.
Big figures?
He had been wondering how to get close to Dawn City’s inner circle to push the “Calamity of Dawn” storyline.
And here it was, the opportunity delivering itself to his door.
Having “big figures” around was perfect! To push the plot, he had to interact with the high-ups of Dawn City.
As for how to approach them—well, never mind that. An Old-Timer had his own ways of playing the game...
“What damn big figures!” Having figured this out, Xu Mo became even more arrogant, his nose practically pointing to the sky.
“The pond is shallow, yet it’s crawling with bottom-feeders. What big figure could possibly be bigger than me?”
Inside his mind, Bai Feifei, who had been enduring this for a while, finally spoke up.
“That’s enough, isn’t it? Today was only supposed to be for an appointment anyway.”
She had felt a sense of despair watching Xu Mo’s outrageous actions, thinking her future in the Inner City was already ruined.
She hadn’t expected the Director to be so accommodating—a lot of thunder but little rain. Despite his harsh words, he was actually letting it go.
She thought this was a good outcome and couldn’t help but speak up when she saw the Old-Timer seemed intent on causing more trouble.
“Shut up!” Xu Mo snapped at her. “If you want to save Dawn City, just listen to me. I have a plan.”
Bai Feifei: “...”
Liu Chen’s face was exceptionally grim. “Watch your mouth. Those individuals are currently...”
“I don’t care who they are!” Xu Mo interrupted him. “I’m testing now. A good dog doesn’t block the way!”
His lips curled into a highly aggressive smile as he leaned close to Liu Chen.
“You find me pretty eyesore, don’t you?”
“This is the perfect chance to go complain about me to those big figures. Tell them I’m lawless and dared to commit murder in the Inner City. How about it?”
