Bai Feifei's pupils shrank abruptly. The hand holding her sword trembled violently, and she cried out in shock:
“What?!”
She had never seen her parents. She had only heard about them from others when she was a child, and by now, she had absolutely no recollection of who had even told her!
They were merely symbols of her ideals and lineage. She had never expected to hear news of her parents while dealing with Dawn City's final boss.
“Who did you say?! My parents?”
Xu Mo was also stunned in their shared mind.
What parents?
He rapidly searched through all of his game memories regarding this character. Bai Feifei was a free character, and he had never noticed any storylines related to her “parents.”
He was an orphan himself, so he had always viewed Bai Feifei as an orphan character in this game as well.
Hearing Bai Feifei's shocked words, Liang Shuguang's smile took on a hint of mischievous satisfaction, as if a prank had succeeded, and he shook his head with a chuckle.
Bai Feifei's breathing grew shallow and rapid, and her emotions began to destabilize.
She was about to press him for answers when Xu Mo suddenly spoke up in her mind.
“Hey!”
The shout came just in time, snapping Bai Feifei out of her daze.
“Don't listen to his nonsense. If there's something you need to know, I'll tell you. Focus and stabilize your mind. Think of Dawn City. Don't you know what's most important right now?”
Bai Feifei's expression instantly turned serious. Even though she was shaken by Liang Shuguang's shocking revelation, she managed to steady her state of mind.
Seeing her compose herself, Liang Shuguang nodded in satisfaction. Then, his facial features blurred beyond recognition, and his body began to officially dissolve.
“Be careful!” Liang Shuguang whispered. “The final moment is here. Now that the old savior has fallen and turned into a demon, the new savior must step up... Don't let me down!”
As soon as those words left his mouth, his entire body began to unfold outward.
Under Bai Feifei's astonished and uncertain gaze, he split right down the middle like a piece of paper torn in half. His flesh peeled and rolled back to both sides like discarded clothing, revealing a completely hollow, empty interior.
The massive skin drifted weightlessly onto the floor of the black cocoon. The bizarre, smiling face on it looked like a stamped drawing.
The moment his skin ruptured, that formidable Evil God power, carrying a devastating aura, surged violently toward Bai Feifei!
His final, faint voice echoed in the air: “Amidst the collapse of everything, how will you ultimately resolve this? At the very least, you have to get out of here first.”
“Hehe... In any case, I won't be around to see it.”
The skin drifted to the ground, falling completely silent.
The energy inside the black cocoon seemed to lose all constraints, completely running wild at this moment.
The energy flooded frantically into Bai Feifei's body, surging like a runaway horse through the blood vessels connected to her by the Source of Bloodline.
Beneath her skin, every single blood vessel burned hot, and every inch of muscle swelled and contracted violently. Even with Bai Feifei's Sanity locked by her Slaughter God Mode, the sheer impact of the energy was almost unbearable.
It was like getting a nosebleed from consuming too many tonic supplements—taking in too much would literally kill a person!
Liang Shuguang's “legacy” was not so easily claimed. Every bit of energy absorbed was a joint trial for both Bai Feifei and Xu Mo.
Feeling the intense pain racking their body, Xu Mo was also rendered speechless. He could only grit his teeth and endure. Fortunately, there was no need for words right now; their minds were perfectly in sync regarding what needed to be done.
At the same time, Xu Mo suddenly felt three objects slowly condensing deep within his chest.
It was a bizarre sensation, as if something was precipitating, settling, and solidifying from the siphoned energy. He instinctively wanted to check his game panel to see if he had acquired something, but there were no notifications yet.
There was no time to lose. Liang Shuguang was offline, and they still had to find a way to break open this black cocoon!
“Slash it!” he shouted directly to Bai Feifei.
With their minds in sync, no words were necessary. Each controlled one half of the body, and they simultaneously gripped the door-sized broadsword.
Two people, two sources of power, and even that unknown force they had just absorbed, poured into the blade at the exact same instant, slamming heavily down onto the floor of the black cocoon.
Boom!!
...
Meanwhile, outside the black cocoon.
Liu Yun's legs gave out, and she sank to one knee. The inky green mist pouring from her seven facial orifices coalesced into wispy threads before her. Guided by an unseen force, they rose straight into the sky and merged into the violently shaking black cocoon.
Her pupils had begun to lose focus. She muttered incoherent syllables under her breath, as if conversing with some non-existent entity.
Underneath the green light screen enveloping the entire city, the world plunged into total darkness.
All of Dawn City was plunged into absolute darkness. Darkness bred fear, as if signaling the arrival of an eternal night and awakening the despair buried deep within people's bloodlines. The roars of those still undergoing aberration shattered the citizenry's final mental defenses.
Standing on a pile of splintered wood, Kong Man grit her teeth and struggled to hold her ground while suppressing the tree monster that Qiu Jing had turned into.
Though she was embarrassed to admit it, she was already starting to contemplate how to make her escape!
This tiny Dawn City made her feel that her strength as a Prophet was somewhat inadequate.
Even though she hadn't been juicing, the sheer density of the anomalous aura permeating the air made her feel that she, too, would risk mutating if she remained trapped here for much longer.
“Dammit...” She clenched her teeth, her lips trembling as she stared up at the black cocoon. “What are you guys doing in there... Are you ever coming out?!”
In another corner of the city, inside a puddle, crimson liquid slowly pooled together. Finally, a hand reached out, pulling a figure up from the mud and blood.
It was Wan Qianhong. She was soaking wet, her hair plastered to her body like a fish freshly pulled from the water—weak, disheveled, and exhausted.
With her mouth half-open, she gazed at the surrounding ruins of Dawn City, finally beginning to understand why the survivors of the disaster thirty years ago remained completely silent about it.
The scene was too horrifying. The agony was enough to make any survivor refuse to recall that hell. And now, that hell had returned, bringing an even deeper despair than thirty years ago.
Last time, a savior had stood up to defend them. But this time, the culprit behind it all was that very same savior!
With great difficulty, she raised her head and looked toward the sky.
Wan Qianhong stared at the black cocoon, murmuring to herself:
“Bai Feifei, you...”
Suddenly, her pupils dilated as she noticed a tiny, hairline fracture appearing on the seemingly indestructible black cocoon.
Right at the center of that crack, the tip of a broadsword burst through the cocoon!
Wrapped in a light of interwoven black and white, the crimson blade pierced through the dark cocoon wall, like the very first ray of light cutting through this eternal night!
