The scene looked rather undignified. There was every reason to suspect that Liang Shuguang had created this massive cocoon partly to avoid losing face.
And it indeed worked. Their utterly absurd first clash went entirely unseen.
Liang Shuguang cleared his throat and scrambled back up as if nothing had happened, stretching his still-unfamiliar legs.
Realizing he wasn't under attack, he looked up and saw that Bai Feifei on the opposite side was in a similar predicament.
Liang Shuguang couldn't help but laugh. Massaging his legs with both hands, he teased, “Did you suddenly get sleepy? It seems you're still affected by the Blood Medal.”
“And here I thought you were perfectly fine.”
The next second, he gave his newly formed legs a rub. Instead of trying to get used to them, his entire body drifted upward light as a feather!
With his feet off the ground, he hovered in mid-air, looking down at Xu Mo.
His level had just reached Level 70. Unlike Bai Feifei, who was ostensibly only a Rank 5 Scavenger, he had absolutely no need for legs.
Xu Mo finally peeled his face off the ground, utterly unable to accept this. Looking up at the man floating in the air, his composure instantly crumbled.
Fuck! The guy can fly!
He sat up and looked down at his own hands and feet, his mind racing to come up with a strategy.
This situation was too damn ridiculous. He hadn't realized it while they were just standing there trading barbs, but in an actual fight, having only half a body under control was a complete joke!
“Damn, this is worse than fighting with one arm and one leg,” Xu Mo couldn't help but think.
He thought of Bai Feifei's Spotless White battle angel state. What if he let her transform? She had wings, which would make flying and moving around a lot easier.
But here lay the problem: only half of their body could move right now. If she transformed, would she end up with only one wing? That would look incredibly stupid.
Xu Mo felt his head throb. No matter how much of an Old-Timer he was, he had never experienced anything like this.
“How about you just go to sleep right now?” he immediately said to Bai Feifei. “Or just don't move for a bit. Build up your emotions and see if you can enter Slaughter God Mode first.”
With no better options for now, he planned to make a groundbreaking attempt at what it felt like to fight as a “half-person.”
Once Bai Feifei locked her Sanity, it would probably be easier to just use the system's power to contain Liang Shuguang's items directly.
Just then, the expression on Bai Feifei's half of the face grew calm. She spoke softly, “You take the lead in combat. I will try to follow and coordinate with your movements.”
Xu Mo was taken aback. How the hell are you going to follow?
With his current physical stats, his movements were like lightning. Normally, even the naked eye would struggle to keep up.
“...Are you sure you can do this?”
“Let's try,” Bai Feifei said.
Xu Mo gritted his teeth, pushed himself up with one hand, and slowly swung his sword.
To his surprise, the other hand naturally supported the hilt, and the other leg stepped forward in perfect unison.
It was as if an artificial intelligence that perfectly understood his intentions was seamlessly coordinating with his every move.
“Huh? Not bad!” Xu Mo blurted out. This was the second time Bai Feifei had surprised him, the first being her Sanity-locking talent.
Xu Mo's movements grew faster and faster. Though the body felt a bit awkward at first, after only a few breaths of adjustment, he was moving no differently from a normal person.
“Awesome!” Xu Mo gave his highest praise. “It seems we really are on the same wavelength, huh?”
Bai Feifei: ...
On the same wavelength... with an Evil God? Perhaps... Bai Feifei thought to herself.
However, she didn't find this strange at all.
Before I met you, I was just an Outer City girl who had never even fought anyone. All of my moves were learned from you.
To save everyone, and to do as much as possible with the sanity and life I have left, every time the Evil God took control, I watched in silence. But in truth, I was frantically feeling and learning.
The combat movements you are so familiar with—I have already practiced them in my mind a thousand times over!
These were thoughts Bai Feifei kept to herself. She merely closed her eyes slightly, focusing all her attention on that strange connection.
Although she had lost control over half of her body, that half felt like a phantom limb, as if she could perceive it through an invisible sense.
After all, this is my body!
Up in the air, Liang Shuguang did not interfere, quietly observing them.
Hovering in mid-air, he watched the girl below, who could barely stand a moment ago, fluidly twirl her sword in a matter of breaths. He was instantly startled.
She adapted that quickly?!
“Please, kill him quickly!” Bai Feifei suddenly spoke, fully focused on coordinating with Xu Mo's movements. “We can't afford to waste any more time. The people outside can't wait!”
Even now, Bai Feifei still held onto her obsession with saving Dawn City.
“You got it!”
Xu Mo laughed heartily. With a horizontal sweep of his longsword, a wave of energy—a blend of black and white—slashed toward Liang Shuguang.
Liang Shuguang blocked with his glaive, but the energy instantly exploded right in front of him, pushing him back several meters.
He looked down in surprise, noticing Bai Feifei's face. Her left eye was wide open, glaring with arrogant dominance, while her right eye was half-closed.
“Are your... eyes feeling uncomfortable?”
“Uncomfortable my ass, fuck you!”
Xu Mo fired back. The next second, his “legs” bent slightly, and he launched himself violently into the air, charging straight at Liang Shuguang!
At this moment, the strength of the two reached perfect synchronization. The black and white currents surged simultaneously from their chest, and the longsword was enveloped in a light that interwoven destruction and protection.
Sword and glaive collided violently in mid-air!
Boom!
The shockwave exploded inside the black cocoon. Xu Mo was knocked backward through the air, sliding several meters upon landing.
Liang Shuguang only recoiled half an inch, but his eyes were filled with shock.
What incredible physical strength!
Had the world changed during the long years he hadn't fought? The gap between their official levels was like night and day!
Now, he was beginning to understand those useless subordinates of his who had suffered defeats despite holding a massive advantage in rank!
“Your physical stats... you're a monster...” Liang Shuguang couldn't help but say.
Xu Mo grinned and shook his numbed hand.
“We're just getting started, you uncultured bumpkin! I haven't even shown you my real tricks yet!”
“Besides, you can't possibly only have this much to show, right?”
Liang Shuguang wasn't angered. However, the smile vanished from his face as he took a deep breath.
“Then be careful. Don't go dying on me right off the bat,” Liang Shuguang kindly warned.
The moment the words left his mouth, without the aid of any Word Soul or any warning, Liang Shuguang's eyes instantly turned blood-red. He launched a zero-frame attack!
“†‡€¡—!!”
A soul shriek that defied description in any human tongue instantly echoed. It was silent and formless, yet it made Xu Mo feel as if his soul had been ripped from his body.
On the game panel, the number representing his Sanity fluctuated wildly before a red warning box popped up.
【Warning: Direct contact with Old Ones' power. Sanity has dropped to zero!】
