Liu Yun's robes fluttered slightly as she looked at Bai Feifei and asked again.
“You believe there will be trouble if we go any further?”
“You must realize that even if we set up camp here, you will still have to go in once the Graduation Show begins.”
Bai Feifei nodded, her response decisive.
“I know, but it is still better not to have everyone step into the red soil region.”
Liu Yun fell silent for a few seconds.
As a Prophet, she possessed a vague perception of the future.
So much was about to happen in Dawn City, and she had been unsettled for a long time, causing her premonitions of the future to become highly chaotic.
She didn't dare to force herself to delve deeper. At their level, the stronger one was, the easier it was to be corrupted by anomalous forces. If she accidentally triggered her own aberration, it would be a disaster.
However, just because she didn't know something didn't mean others were equally in the dark.
There were countless extraordinary figures in this world—for instance, the Masked Hermit Society!
It was rare for Bai Feifei to be so serious rather than acting manic, which meant there had to be a reason.
Perhaps the organization behind her truly knew something and had warned her...
Liu Yun withdrew her gaze and said calmly, “Very well.”
“If there is indeed trouble ahead, thank you for the warning,” she added.
In her eyes, if there was real danger, this warning was undoubtedly a gesture of goodwill from that organization.
Tian Guannan, standing nearby, was completely dumbfounded.
His eyes widened as he looked back and forth between Liu Yun and Bai Feifei. His mouth hung open, but no sound came out.
Huh?!
What do you mean, “Very well”?
And you're thanking her? What are you even thanking her for?!
This woman just casually says there's trouble ahead, and you, a Prophet, just sign off on it like that?
Where's the reason? Where's the evidence?
This is a complete joke.
Only one thought kept looping in Tian Guannan's mind—you guys are in fucking cahoots.
Why the fuck didn't you say so earlier?!
If he had known Bai Feifei had this kind of connection with the Prophet, he wouldn't have said a word. Why go through all this trouble?
So what if Xu Hu was dead? What did it have to do with him anyway?
Now he was the one looking like a clown!
Tian Guannan's face flushed red and white. The corners of his mouth twitched several times, but in the end, he swallowed his words.
He turned around, veins bulging on his forehead, and waved at the dazed Scavengers behind him.
“Everyone, out of the vehicles!”
“What are you standing around for? Set up camp!”
The crowd finally snapped out of it.
Students from the various academies leaped down from the vehicles and began unloading tents and setting up equipment.
However, they couldn't hide the shock in their hearts, and the sound of hushed whispers buzzed through the air.
No one could fathom the meaning behind Liu Yun's decision.
Standing by the vehicle, Wan Qianhong's expression was equally complex.
She knew her mentor well. She understood that Liu Yun's decision must have something to do with that mysterious organization.
She just couldn't understand why Liu Yun sometimes showed respect to that organization and other times refused to support Bai Feifei. What was she trying to achieve?
She instinctively looked over at Bai Feifei and found that she was still standing in place, her gaze piercing through the ruins ahead, staring straight at the red soil region.
Her expression was different from usual, clearly carrying a trace of worry, and... compassion?
What on earth was she thinking?
Wan Qianhong suddenly felt as though she had never truly understood this girl.
A logistics truck drove up from the rear of the convoy, stopping nearby.
The door opened, and a man jumped down.
He wore a deep blue jumpsuit with a silver gear badge pinned to his left chest.
In his hand, he carried a metal case connected to several cables of varying thicknesses.
His attire stood out starkly among the crowd clad in Scavenger uniforms, looking as if he belonged to a different world entirely.
He walked briskly over to Liu Yun, gave a slight nod, and spoke in a calm, professional manner.
“Are you certain?” His tone held no hostility or doubt; he sounded like a pure technician verifying parameters.
“If we set up camp here, our equipment's precision might be insufficient at this distance.”
Liu Yun looked at him and nodded gently.
“As long as it's still workable, please proceed.”
“Thank you, sir.”
The man lowered his head in thought for a moment, then nodded and turned to walk back.
From beginning to end, he remained perfectly composed. After climbing back into the truck, several other similarly dressed people emerged shortly after, unloading various massive metal devices from the vehicle.
Bai Feifei stood watching the truck, thinking to herself, Prophet Liu Yun seems to treat these people with a lot of respect.
Xu Mo's voice echoed in her mind, “Of course. As the saying goes, ‘Master math, physics, and chemistry, and you can travel the world without fear.’ Technicians always command some respect.”
“Besides, they are from Turing City, not Dawn City.”
Bai Feifei blinked. She had never heard of this city before, so she asked, “Then why are they here?”
“You could call it technical aid,” Xu Mo said vaguely.
He didn't know the exact backstory of why these people were here, nor did he care. In short, they had arrived.
In the world of 《Old Ones' Awakening》, Turing City was the only city on this regressive continent that had preserved a decent level of technology.
When Xu Mo played the game, he often used that city as his main base. Because of its high technological level, life there was no different from modern society, which made it highly interesting.
It even possessed some fantastical sci-fi technologies that didn't exist in the real world.
“Technical aid?” Bai Feifei pressed.
Xu Mo teased:
“Where do you think the Scavengers' gear comes from? The anomaly detectors, those crappy phones, the electronic communication tech—almost all of it is the handiwork of Turing City.”
“I reckon even the live broadcast equipment for Dawn City's Voting Assembly is thanks to Turing City.”
“For your Graduation Show, they'll probably find a way to record everyone's performance and points. These guys are here to provide the technical support for that.”
Bai Feifei's eyes glazed over slightly. To be honest, she had no idea how these high-tech devices actually worked.
To be able to accomplish all sorts of miraculous things using mechanical devices without relying on a Word Soul was quite incredible.
“Then they must be amazing,” Bai Feifei said with awe.
“They're alright, I guess. A lot of that technology existed hundreds of years ago in your world; they just preserved it,” Xu Mo yawned.
“But they're definitely better off than you guys. Dawn City is honestly such a backwater. Once you visit Turing City in the future, you'll see what a real metropolis looks like. Living there is way more comfortable.”
Bai Feifei didn't reply.
She had grown up in the slums of the Outer City, and this was her first time even visiting the Inner City. The massive Dawn City was her entire world.
She had never even heard of the name Turing City. It sounded strange, and she didn't know what it meant.
But she committed the name to memory.
