Liu Yun frowned deeply as she listened to “Bai Feifei” call out her nominee.
It was clear that she was highly reluctant.
She didn't want her own disciple to wade into these muddy waters!
“Rank 5 Scavengers aren't that scarce. This matter can wait until—”
Looking at her teacher's expression, Wan Qianhong suddenly felt an indescribable sensation well up in her chest.
She recalled what had happened deep within the Black Smoke Coal Mine, the aberration during the drug trial, and the "Agree" card Liu Yun had raised at the Voting Assembly.
She suddenly spoke up, somewhat rudely cutting off her teacher.
“Teacher, let me do it.”
“I am willing.”
Liu Yun turned around, looking at her disciple in surprise.
The atmosphere between this teacher and student had always been delicate, a fact that many of those present were well aware of.
But now, Wan Qianhong's words were tantamount to publicly taking “Bai Feifei's” side.
Liu Yun stared at her, falling silent for several seconds.
Her gaze held scrutiny, helplessness, and a faint trace of exhaustion.
Wan Qianhong didn't shrink back, meeting her teacher's gaze head-on.
Finally, Liu Yun let out a soft sigh.
“Very well.” She withdrew her gaze, her tone completely flat, devoid of any emotion.
“We'll make this temporary arrangement for now. While Bai Feifei is handling the overall safety, Wan Qianhong will temporarily represent Qingping Academy.”
“Let's go. Everyone else has gathered, and it's time to prepare for the Graduation Show.”
With that, she turned and walked away, completely ignoring Xu Hu's corpse on the ground and the numerous North District Scavengers.
The surrounding crowd froze in unison, and then utter shock washed over them!
Wait a minute, wasn't something missing? Was this matter just going to be brushed aside like this?
Everyone was astounded. Bai Feifei had killed the head of the North District, and it was being swept under the rug so casually?
That was a Rank 5 Scavenger! Even if he had always been stationed in the Outer City, he wasn't some random nobody.
Skipping over this so easily was far too reckless. This “Bai Feifei” had been acting lawlessly for so long, yet she seemed to escape any form of punishment every single time!
Tian Guannan's face remained livid. He glared at “Bai Feifei,” his teeth clenched tightly.
Reasonably speaking, he didn't want to let this matter go.
Though he was nominally the highest leader of the North District, strength was what ultimately ruled among Scavengers. Since Liu Yun had made the final call, it was difficult for him to cause trouble right now.
Just as Bai Feifei and the others turned to walk toward the armored vehicle, he suddenly spoke.
“Bai Feifei, is it? I hope you realize that this is far from over.”
He pointed at Xu Hu's corpse on the ground, fire practically spewing from his eyes.
“You are the first person to ever come to the North District and commit murder in broad daylight.”
“Once the Graduation Show is over, I will report your atrocities directly to the City Lord!”
“No matter who is backing you, Xu Hu was a member of the Xu family. And the Xu family... is notoriously protective of their own!”
Xu Mo paused in his tracks.
He turned back, looked at Tian Guannan, and burst into laughter.
“I have plenty of unfinished business on my plate. Your little threat doesn't even register.”
“If you want to cause trouble for me, you'll have to get in line.”
“Besides, you might not even get to see the City Lord. Whether you can even survive this Graduation Show is highly questionable.”
Tian Guannan's pupils dilated.
“What do you mean by that!”
Xu Mo ignored him and walked away.
He let out a yawn and spoke to Bai Feifei in his mind:
“That's that. I'm handing the account back to you.”
“On a whim, I got an acquaintance of yours to tag along. This woman should still be on your side. Hehe, make sure to make the most of it.”
Bai Feifei: “...”
With that, he handed control of her body right back.
Bai Feifei shuddered as she took back the reins of her body.
She boarded the armored vehicle in silence, completely ignoring Tian Guannan's murderous gaze.
Then, she spoke in her mind.
“Did you plan to kill Xu Hu all along because you knew he was a problem?”
She asked so suddenly that Xu Mo was caught off guard.
“What?”
“That man, Xu Hu,” Bai Feifei said in her mind, her tone calm. “Since he was a problem, he must have been looking to cause trouble from the very start.”
“But according to what the Prophet said just now, Xu Hu was originally supposed to temporarily lead Qingping Academy during the Graduation Show. There was clearly a conspiracy behind that, wasn't there?”
“Did you already know about this beforehand? Is that why you killed him, and conveniently replaced him with Senior Wan, whom we can trust?”
Bai Feifei felt she had hit the nail on the head. After experiencing so many of the Evil God's mysterious and bizarre actions, she had habitually begun to try and guess his deeper intentions.
Xu Mo: “...”
Listening to Bai Feifei's explanation, Xu Mo was a bit dumbfounded.
Hiss... Was that really what was going on here?
But when she put it that way, it actually made a lot of sense.
If things had gone according to their original plan, where I was responsible for overall safety and Xu Hu led Qingping Academy, that would have definitely been a recipe for disaster! Who even arranged that?
I didn't even think that far ahead before I killed him.
Did I actually score a double whammy by pure luck?
Damn, do I really need so many reasons to kill an NPC? If someone deserves to die, they don't need a laundry list of charges.
But could he actually say that out loud?
Absolutely not.
Xu Mo cleared his throat, adjusting his tone to his most composed Old-Timer mode, sounding incredibly profound and mysterious:
“Heh, it seems you actually have a brain to be able to figure that out.”
“But it doesn't matter. Just focus on raising your strength. When the time comes to kill, you just kill.”
Fortunately, due to her current personality, Bai Feifei wasn't one to pry.
She nodded and said nothing more.
Yet, deep down, Bai Feifei felt a profound sadness.
Even at a time like this, Dawn City was still rife with internal strife, power struggles, and endless conspiracies.
It was like navigating a minefield. They had only just arrived in the North District and didn't even know what they would face yet, and already, these troublemakers had shown up.
If the Evil God hadn't been there to steamroll through everything for her, she didn't even dare to imagine what the outcome would have been.
It was truly ironic. Here she was, trying to "save Dawn City" with the help of an Evil God, while Dawn City's own people were doing everything they could to hold her back.
After a brief moment, she couldn't help but speak again, her voice carrying a heavier weight this time.
“You told me before that everyone from Qingping Academy would die in the North District.”
“Which means this Graduation Show is also going to go horribly wrong, isn't it?”
Xu Mo was taken aback, then laughed out loud.
“Oh? You have a pretty good memory to still remember such a minor detail.”
Bai Feifei was utterly speechless. How could something like that be considered a minor detail? Even the most heartless person wouldn't just forget it!
For a moment, Xu Mo felt mischievous and decided to seize the opportunity to put some pressure on Bai Feifei to motivate her to get stronger.
“Indeed, such is fate!”
“Across countless endings and countless futures, those destined to die will die, and what is bound to happen will happen!”
After his words fell, neither of them spoke again. Bai Feifei remained silent, her expression solemn.
A long silence ensued.
Suddenly, Xu Mo's playful, cynical voice rang out once more:
“But then again, who really knows? Don't be so depressed. Perhaps history will change because of you.”
“Always remember, what beats inside your chest right now is the heart of an Evil God of the Old Days. Believe in this: your destiny is in your own hands, not in the hands of fate!”
