Chapter 161 · Volume 1

I Really Want to See What the Consequences Will Be!

The scene before him made Tian Guannan's perennially stern face twitch twice.
That crazy woman he had heard so much about had actually defeated Xu Hu?
Just how strong was she?
He had arrived too late to see the actual fight, so he had no idea how it had played out.
This woman's identity was currently a mystery, as was her strength. Word was that she had even killed an Edgerunner!
Was this some kind of sick joke? Had that person really reached the Edgerunner Rank?
“I'll ask you one more time,” Xu Mo demanded, holding Xu Hu up by the collar. “Who ordered you to change your route and ambush me here?”
“Is the Xu family finally making their move? Have you thought this through?”
A few muffled sounds squeezed out of Xu Hu's throat. His face was flushed so red it looked ready to burst.
He wanted to speak!
But with his neck being squeezed so hard he couldn't even breathe, how was he supposed to talk?
Xu Mo waited for two seconds. Seeing that his opponent was only struggling, his brow furrowed.
“Heh, stubborn to the end,” Xu Mo sneered, tightening his grip even further. “I guess you'd rather die than talk?”
Xu Hu's eyeballs were nearly bulging out of their sockets.
A series of muffled whimpers escaped his mouth as his legs kicked wildly in the air. In his mind, he was already cursing eighteen generations of Xu Mo's ancestors.
Stubborn my ass!
Let go of me first so I can fucking speak!
Who can talk when they're being strangled?!
But all these words remained trapped in his throat, coming out as nothing but meaningless, wheezing gasps.
Xu Mo obviously had no intention of letting go.
Asking questions was just a pretense; finding an excuse to kill the guy was his real objective.
At that moment, Tian Guannan finally couldn't hold back anymore and took a step forward.
“Bai Feifei,” he said, his voice low and laced with suppressed anger, doing his best to keep his composure.
“This is the North District, which is different from other places. There might be a misunderstanding between you two. Put him down first!”
“The North District is a wartime zone. Fighting amongst ourselves here is an even more serious offense than doing so in the Inner City.”
Xu Mo tilted his head, casting a sidelong glance at him.
“Who the fuck are you?”
Tian Guannan's cheek twitched.
Who was he?
He was the overall head of the North District in Dawn City, an Edgerunner—Tian Guannan!
In terms of his position in the Inner City, he was on the same level as Liu Yun.
This crazy woman who had appeared out of nowhere really was as infuriating to talk to as the rumors suggested!
Tian Guannan suppressed his anger and squeezed a few words through his teeth. “I am the overall head of the North District, Tian Guannan.”
“Oh,” Xu Mo replied, not loosening his grip in the slightest. “What the fuck is that supposed to be?”
Tian Guannan froze, a surge of fury rising within him.
But when he heard “Bai Feifei's” next words, he almost died of anger right then and there.
“What fucking overall head?”
“The City Lord said that for this Graduation Show, I am the overall head.”
“My position is above yours! Shouldn't you be listening to me?”
Standing at the edge of the ruins, Liu Yun's lips twitched slightly as she listened to “Bai Feifei's” confident declaration, but she remained silent.
Tian Guannan felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him. His brain completely short-circuited.
The City Lord said so? When did the City Lord ever say that!
Even the City Lord wouldn't treat such a massive personnel appointment like a joke, let alone place her above him?!
Then, Tian Guannan suddenly remembered that there indeed seemed to be such an arrangement, but it wasn't what she made it out to be!
That was just a nominal title meant for managing student safety during the Graduation Show!
“That's called the overall safety director! And it's only during the Graduation Show!” Tian Guannan gritted his teeth, forcing himself to calm down.
“The Graduation Show hasn't even started yet, and the location hasn't even been finalized!”
“Can you put my man down first? If there's anything else, we can discuss it after—he's about to be strangled to death by you!”
“I don't care!” Xu Mo's reply was completely unreasonable. “Go ask the City Lord if you have a problem.”
He paused, and the look in his eyes as he stared at Tian Guannan gradually became dangerous.
“However... I have a rule.”
“Anyone who speaks up for my enemy is my enemy!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the entire area was filled with palpable killing intent!
Tian Guannan's face turned completely livid.
Was this woman... threatening him?!
Right then, streaks of light shot over one after another as figures began to appear on the surrounding ruins.
Wan Qianhong and many other high-ranking Scavengers involved in this operation had also rushed over.
The moment they arrived, their eyes swept over the North District Scavengers lying all over the ground, and then over Xu Hu, who was being held like a dead dog. Their eyes were filled with shock.
What had just happened here?
The Graduation Show hasn't even started yet, and Qingping Academy has already put on such a spectacle?
Besides... weren't the North District Scavengers always rumored to have the strongest combat power among those of the same rank? Why did it look like they couldn't even beat a bunch of students?
By now, Tian Guannan's expression had completely darkened.
As the overall head of the North District, he had been a prominent figure in Dawn City for so many years. Even the Family Heads of the five major families had to show him some respect.
Now that everyone had arrived and so many eyes were on them, every single word “Bai Feifei” said was a massive slap to his face.
She had only just arrived in the North District, an outsider from who-knows-where, yet she showed him absolutely no respect?
“Bai Feifei,” his voice sank to its lowest register, no longer suppressed but carrying an overt threat.
“I don't care what the City Lord said. You are in the North District right now. For physically injuring a North District leader, I can arrest you on the spot.”
“I'll say this one last time: put him down! Otherwise... you won't be able to bear the consequences!”
The moment these words were spoken, the surrounding air grew tense once more.
And Wan Qianhong, who had just arrived, underwent a drastic change in expression.
Oh, no!
She knew “Bai Feifei's” temper all too well.
If you spoke to her nicely, she might listen to a word or two. But if you threatened her, it was over.
Standing on the ruins, a sudden gleam flashed across Liu Yun's perennially calm eyes.
She instinctively took a step forward, raising her hand to say something.
But it was already too late.
Xu Mo's eyes lit up instantly.
“Great!” He grinned, his voice brimming with unbridled excitement. “It's a deal!”
Then, he suddenly exerted force with his hand.
Crack.
It was the sound of a neck bone being snapped cleanly.
Crisp and brief, yet it was like a sudden clap of thunder exploding over the ruins, freezing everyone in place.
Xu Hu's body stiffened violently in mid-air, followed by a severe shudder. His legs gave one final kick, and then he went completely still.
The expression on his face froze in an extremely distorted grimace, as if he couldn't understand even in death how he had ended up dead.
Xu Mo let go of his grip.
The corpse fell to the ground with a dull thud.
“Come on, Tian. I really want to see what the consequences will be!”
