Chapter 400 · Volume 1

Cold Embrace (5)

"Don't look at me with such idiotic eyes. Let me introduce myself—my name is Sirius Starfall. Tsk, why am I even telling you natives this?"
The man calling himself Sirius clicked his tongue.
He looked at the seated Belisa with total confidence.
"You can try to kill me, but I can tell you clearly: no matter how many times you kill me, I will stand before you again, perfectly intact, because the Witch of Wrath won't let me die so easily."
"The Witch of Wrath?"
Sevia looked around and noticed that everyone else showed no reaction to the man's self-introduction, though their expressions were filled with confusion.
She understood quickly.
Knowledge was contaminated. Except for her, everyone in this room likely heard nothing but a string of static when he said 'Witch of Wrath' because they could not comprehend such 'knowledge.'
This was also why the youth spoke so freely and introduced himself directly.
She searched her mind, but there was no knowledge regarding the Witch of Wrath.
As for this archbishop of wrath, setting aside his undying and eerie body and a mind capable of withstanding contaminated knowledge, his aura felt like that of an ordinary person.
"What is your purpose in coming here?"
Belisa's majestic voice echoed through the hall.
"How many times do I have to say it? Are the brains of you titan race filled with sheep dung?" Sirius's face twisted.
"This kingdom is about to perish, and now only we can save it. We want to see the king of this place, understood!?"
"How can I believe you?" Belisa asked.
This demigod showed no irritation at the man's insults; her words were filled with a divine indifference, like a machine devoid of emotion.
"Believe? How do you think the kingdom beneath your feet managed to grow to this scale in just two hundred years? It was we who brought 'miracles' to you natives!"
"It is because the Gnawing Parasite Miracle protects this kingdom from the ravages of other 'miracles.' Now you want to destroy this 'miracle.' All the disasters breaking out in the kingdom are your own doing!"
Except for Sevia, everyone in the room was bewildered. Half of the youth's words contained knowledge they couldn't comprehend, but looking at his indignant expression, he didn't seem to be lying.
"You mean to say all of this was brought by you?" Belisa's eyes flickered with a sharp coldness.
Sirius felt uncomfortable under her gaze, and the wizards beside him trembled, feeling the urge to bow down.
On second thought, remembering he was immortal, Sirius's expression became composed, and his tone rose:
"Yes, everything you have was brought by us."
"You should revere us as gods. We are the ones who brought you food, clothes, and water!"
"A flock of lambs who have received grace yet dare to neglect their savior—how ridiculous is that?"
"Arrogance! I'll cut you down right now!" One person behind her drew a blade and stepped forward, only to be stopped by Atula.
"Don't believe their one-sided claims!" someone in the guard shouted.
"General, why waste more words with these fellows? This is the most critical period for fighting the plague. We can't let these people of unknown origin make us fail at the final hurdle!"
"To save this kingdom, the people can only rely on themselves!"
Belisa fell into deep thought.
"Leave it to me, General!" Someone requested the command, pointing at Sirius and his group, who were now the targets of everyone's scorn.
"He claims to be immortal? I'll mince him into meat. Every time he lives, I'll kill him again. I want to see how many eerie tricks he has left!"
"Cut him into a thousand pieces!"
"Lock him in an iron maiden, seal the coffin, and submerge it in a boiling cauldron!"
As the rhetoric of the crowd grew increasingly violent, Sirius, who had previously been fearless, looked shaken. He took a step back and cursed these primitive people for being barbaric.
Right then, a furious shout came from not far away.
"Belisa!"
Every soldier present was startled and turned their eyes toward the source of the voice together.
An old king, wearing a crown and robes, walked out slowly under the protection of soldiers. Seeing that face, the female general's expression wavered significantly for the first time as she rose to greet him respectfully.
"Your Majesty."
Something completely unexpected happened. The king, who had been under house arrest, appeared here quite openly.
"All of you, stand down!" the king shouted, striking the floor with his scepter.
The soldiers remained unmoved, their eyes collectively snapping toward General Belisa at the center.
Seeing this, the king's blood pressure spiked, and his whole body began to tremble.
"Does my decree no longer carry as much weight as her military orders?"
"Are you not going to stand down yet? Are you planning to rebel?" At this moment, a young man beside the king questioned loudly.
His name was Meus, the captain of the guards personally promoted by Belisa.
He scanned the crowd with raised eyebrows, but when his eyes met the silent gaze beneath her helmet, he lowered his head guiltily.
"Meus, you damned bastard, why did you betray us!"
"General Belisa trusted you so much that she entrusted you with the heavy responsibility of guarding the royal chambers. Why betray the general!"
"Betray? Are you joking?" Meus laughed loudly. "Who exactly is the one betraying this kingdom? Get it straight—it was this titan woman who launched a coup first and betrayed her king. I am merely helping the king take back his power."
"She is a crazed dictator. Do you really want to watch this kingdom perish in her hands?"
"Kill him!" someone roared.
The angry soldiers rushed forward. Facing the youth's terrified eyes, countless spears pierced through his chest.
Thus, before this youth could enjoy the wealth and glory promised by the king, he was killed by the enraged crowd.
The king was clearly terrified by this scene. Facing the blood-crazed soldiers, he stood bewildered as his personal guards were surrounded.
"What are you doing? Put your weapons down! I am your king!"
He pointed at Belisa's nose, his voice trembling.
"Belisa, I trusted you so much and placed all military and political power in your hands because I believed you had the ability to make this country better. Are you really going to commit regicide?"
"What are you still hesitating for, General? With one word from you, no one leaves this place today!"
Sevia silently took a step back.
Should she say her luck was good or bad to stumble right into a palace coup?
Naturally, no one here could threaten her; she was simply unwilling to use the power of the Starry Singer lightly.
Every second felt as long as a century.
"Constantine."
Belisa made her decision, coldly uttering the king's name. She took the sword of authority handed to her by a guard, and under the hopeful eyes of the soldiers and the terrified gaze of the king, she slowly approached. Then... she raised the sword.
She knelt on one knee loyally before the king and offered the sharp blade in her hands.
"Your Majesty, you have been startled."
