Anya?
Almost simultaneously with feeling the presence behind her, Xu Xiaoyou’s mind conjured the girl’s name.
Had the other party been hiding in the study since last night?
Suddenly, a violent stinging pain erupted in her mind. Her Gaze of Spiritual Vision opened uncontrollably, and the enormous blood-red Heart of Desire seemed to be right beside her, its black-hole-like mouths opening and closing, threatening to devour her.
Xu Xiaoyou closed her eyes in pain, her entire body slammed against the wall by Angelina from behind. She grunted, seeing stars, as the girl’s hands, like iron clamps, tightly gripped her throat, the suffocating sensation pressing on her nerves.
“Anya.....” The intense dizziness and stinging pain made Xu Xiaoyou subconsciously gasp.
Angelina’s confusion lingered in her dim eyes, as if she was recalling what the familiar name meant to her.
Xu Xiaoyou was sure that Anya was currently in a chaotic state. Members of Section 6 were in the courtyard, and she had to find a way to stabilize Anya’s emotions. If she lost control, the situation would become tricky.
As if recalling something, Angelina’s dim pupils constricted sharply. Like a startled canid, her wolf ears stood upright, and her dark red pupils narrowed to slits, crisscrossed with blood vessels.
Upon hearing the familiar call, Angelina showed no signs of regaining her sanity; instead, it seemed to stimulate her nerves. A terrifying aura exploded outwards in an instant, and everything around them vibrated violently. The ceiling beams groaned under the strain, and the entire study began to totter.
Xu Xiaoyou sensed trouble. A 【Hunter’s Perception】 transformed into light and merged into her body. She heard movement a hundred meters away.
“Section head, something seems to have happened over there!”
“Go check it out.”
Bad news. The people from Section 6 were being drawn by the commotion here. Anya had to be controlled first. Bone-chilling cold condensed at Xu Xiaoyou’s fingertips, aimed at Angelina’s neck.
Angelina sneered, mocking the girl’s overestimation of herself. She easily grabbed Xu Xiaoyou’s wrist, suspending her entire body in mid-air. Blood-red tentacles coiled into a spiral, piercing Xu Xiaoyou’s abdomen and slowly twisting.
Angelina’s chest heaved violently as she stared fixedly at the pained Xu Xiaoyou. The blood aura of the Heart of Desire burst outwards in waves. She couldn’t understand where the deep-seated hatred for the girl came from, so intense that it made her abandon all reason.
“I hate you!”
“I hate you!!”
“I hate you!!!”
The Heart of Desire roared. More than the physical pain, the mental chaos made it impossible for Xu Xiaoyou to think. Her blank consciousness left her no time to consider how long it would take for Section 6 to arrive, what she could do to stop the out-of-control Anya, or if she would simply be killed by her.
As if by some strange impulse, she painstakingly raised her hand and placed it on Angelina’s head.
Angelina: “!”
The latter reacted as if shocked, her hateful expression frozen. Xu Xiaoyou seized the chance, darting out like a startled rabbit. Realizing what happened, Angelina violently grabbed her ankle, tackling her to the ground and pinning her beneath her.
In the chaos, Angelina’s claws raked deep, bone-visible gashes across Xu Xiaoyou’s shoulder. The spreading scent of blood awakened her genetic hunting instincts. She suddenly felt an urge to tear apart the girl beneath her and feast on her.
Xu Xiaoyou’s head hit the ground. The hand holding the whip was about to be fractured by Angelina’s grip. The stinging pain and invading chaos made her instinctively release her grip, intending to conjure 【Attack Deflection】, but Angelina crushed the skill card directly.
Watching the skill card dissipate into scattered golden points in the air, Xu Xiaoyou hesitated for a moment. Angelina’s iron-clamp hand again gripped her throat, her head bending down to meet Xu Xiaoyou’s eyes. She was clearly smiling, yet there was no trace of amusement in her gaze, only endless coldness and madness.
The black gloved hand gently stroked her fragile neck, searching for the most vulnerable angle. The cold, leathery touch was transmitted, and the Gaze of Spiritual Vision on her cheek trembled to its extreme, as if it could no longer wait to merge with the Heart of Desire.
She had never imagined that her reunion with Anya would be like this.
Did Angelina truly want to devour her alive?
She had to find a way, or Anya would bite through her throat before Section 6 arrived.
Should she call for help from Section 6?
In this state, Anya had virtually no chance of escaping a crackdown.
Should she abandon Anya completely?
Xu Xiaoyou’s thoughts gradually became meticulous. She calmed down, casting aside her frantic inner voice, her gaze settling into tranquility. In her palm, a new skill card condensed—【Breath Concealment】.
She didn’t use it on herself, but on Angelina. Driven by instinct, the latter didn’t perceive a threat from this skill card and didn’t stop it as before. Instead, she leaned down, her fangs almost biting through the girl’s throat beneath her.
“Section head, her aura has disappeared again....”
Outside the study, Bai Zhou sniffed the air, frowning as he spoke.
Chihong looked towards the top of the courtyard wall: “Did she get away again?”
“There’s a scent of blood inside the house. Should we go in and check?” Yun Yao warily observed the scene inside the study, seeing a man’s corpse lying in a pool of blood, his body brutally transformed into a primordial fish-man.
“Was it the Black Abyss White Flower? She shouldn’t have gone far, let’s pursue!” Chihong quickly assessed, then leaped over the wall, chasing in the distance.
“Section head? Tsk, and she talks about us. Every time something like this happens, she rushes ahead alone.” Bai Zhou grumbled, also summoning his Blood Monarch to swiftly follow.
Yun Yao remained in place, looking at the stern-faced Heifeng behind her, and then noticed the anomaly of the man’s corpse on the ground. She wanted to go in and look but was held back by him.
“Elder Hei?” Yun Yao asked, puzzled.
The usually steady Heifeng shook his head, offering no explanation. Meanwhile, just beyond the wall, the golden-haired girl’s face was hidden in shadow, her chin lifted. Every second, blood poured down her throat into her lungs, but Xu Xiaoyou simply covered her mouth, making no sound.
Instinctively sensing approaching danger, Angelina made no unnecessary movements. She firmly pressed down on Xu Xiaoyou’s slender white wrist, maintaining the posture of biting through the girl’s throat. A fierce glint appeared in her bloodshot eyes, warning the prey beneath her that if she made even the slightest sound, her throat would be severed.
“Don’t let them fight alone. Let’s go,” Heifeng said.
Yun Yao looked bewildered, not understanding why the usually reliable and steady elder’s attitude was so abnormal. But she didn’t think much of it.
What he said made sense. Her companions were still pursuing the enemy, and if they encountered danger now, any accident would be disastrous.
The painful lesson of companions who were laughing and joking one moment, only to perish due to sudden events the next, was not new within the association.
Yun Yao also picked up her heavy cannon and chased after the others, leaving the courtyard. Only Heifeng remained, standing still for a long time, gripping his weapon. A blade-like sharpness flashed in his weathered eyes before he cast a final, wary glance at the study and then departed.
Behind the wall, Xu Xiaoyou felt a wave of relief. Angelina, eager to tear open the neck of her prey and savor the fresh blood and flesh, placed a pair of hands on her head and began to gently stroke it.
