Xu Xiaoyou gripped the Dawn Haze Blade and returned to Tang Xin's side, swiftly dispatching all the mist people surrounding the young girl. Looking at the monsters still surging like a tide from all directions, neither of their expressions looked good.
Tang Xin had a deep, narrow wound on her arm. Her face was pale, her lips tightly bitten, and her slender body trembled slightly.
"Are you alright?" Xu Xiaoyou asked, noticing the girl's injury.
Xu Xiaoyou was also injured. It was unrealistic to weave through the battlefield and avoid every attack. The most alarming wound was on her right arm—a bloody hole several centimeters deep that wouldn't stop bleeding.
Yet, as if she couldn't feel the pain, her eyes remained calm and her breathing steady. After cleanly ending the life of a monster in front of her, she sheathed her longblade behind her back and frowned at the blue-haired girl.
Tang Xin shook her head. This was the first time she had experienced something like this. Encountering an attack by urban eldritch creatures on such a scale and coming so close to death had shattered every remaining beautiful thought she had about the world and her curiosity about the unknown.
She was terrified—so terrified her body wouldn't stop shaking, so terrified she wanted to turn and flee. But the blonde girl was still here, right by her side, giving her a sense of security. The others in the group were still fighting a bloody battle.
Enduring the stinging pain, she began to sing softly. Water flowing with the breath of life acted like gentle hands, moving across the battlefield to soothe everyone's inner agitation and heal their wounds.
As their wounds healed rapidly, Lin Xing and Lin Sheng both noticed. Their eyes, clouded by killing intent, cleared slightly as they regained their sanity.
Lin Xing leaped behind a mist person, his eyes sharp. Holding two daggers in front of him, he slashed out several shadowy strikes. The blades of darkness, stained with fresh red, sliced through the air.
Lin Sheng jumped behind him, his greatsword thrusting, slashing, and cleaving. With a final roar, he actually forced all the surrounding monsters back. His crimson eyes erupted with endless fury, striking fear into the hearts of the monsters.
Both men looked toward the blue-haired girl in the center of the battlefield. This flower grown in a greenhouse had not been bent by the driving rain after the roof sheltering her had been removed. Her small, soft petals resiliently unfurled against the storm, beginning to bloom.
The blonde girl beside her acted like a guardian. Under multiple buffs, her combat performance was brilliant. She remained calm throughout, each strike precisely killing a mist person. Her movements within the pervasive blood mist were swift and lethal, not at all inferior to an ordinary grade 3 combat fixer!
Tang Xin's performance exceeded everyone's expectations. They had initially been somewhat dissatisfied with Xu Xiaoyou bringing a burden along. Who knew if a girl who had never even touched a gun and grew up in a greenhouse would break down screaming in a crisis, running around and dragging them all down?
Unexpectedly, it was under the support of her Starry Singer and water-elementalist abilities that the collapsing battle situation gradually improved. Fifteen minutes after the fight began, the group finally managed to regroup.
"How are you guys holding up?" Lin Sheng asked, exhaling a breath of turbid air.
"These monsters aren't enough to take me down, Brother," Lin Xing said, wiping black blood from the corner of his mouth. "But are these things endless?"
"These mist people are probably only hazard-level, but there are just too many of them," Xu Xiaoyou said, her expression still grim as she looked around.
The surrounding monsters continued to swarm in, their sharp screeches filling everyone's ears. As far as the eye could see, a pale tide was about to submerge the small area where they stood.
She looked back at Tang Xin, whose face had turned another shade paler. In the recent combat, the girl had unlocked a brand-new team support ability—a resonance skill between her water-elementalist and Starry Singer classes called 【Life Elegy】. Within a hundred-meter radius centered on the girl, everyone's constitution and recovery speed were significantly enhanced, and 15% of all damage they received would be transferred to the girl herself.
Maintaining such an ability for a long time was undoubtedly a massive burden on Tang Xin, both mentally and physically. Looking at her condition, it seemed she might lose consciousness and faint at any moment.
If she lost consciousness, the stabilized battle situation would likely collapse instantly. Should she let Tang Xin use 【Stars Overlap】? Xu Xiaoyou weighed the option in her mind.
That was Tang Xin's most overpowered skill, an extremely strong team buff. Once used, it could turn the tide of battle instantly. She had instructed the girl never to reveal this trump card unless it was a critical moment.
Tang Xin's face had lost almost all color. She had bitten her lip nearly to the point of bleeding. Suddenly, three blue-purple halos bloomed at the feet of the three others. Xu Xiaoyou's eyes flickered; those were the effects of 【Blue-Winged Voice】 and 【Heroic Hymn】!
The mental power required just to maintain two of these single-target buffs on her was immeasurable. To think the girl could cast six of them simultaneously!
Though she couldn't see it, she was certain that Tang Xin's mental sea was currently surging with a vastness commoners could not imagine.
Her internal assessment of Tang Xin's value rose several levels higher.
"Over there..." Tang Xin's slightly raspy voice caught everyone's attention.
She pointed into the distance. Near the off-road vehicle, Chen San was currently in a wretched state. His white-collar shirt was almost soaked through and torn by blood, revealing the cyan pattern tattooed on his body. A wild and ferocious azure flood dragon spread from his shoulder across most of his chest. As his body temperature rose, the cyan pattern grew brighter and clearer.
Chen San's glasses were shattered. His previous composed image was gone, replaced by raw grit! Like a wrathful guardian deity, he held a flamethrower. The conical snake of fire bared its fangs, and wherever it roared, the monsters were forced back.
"Come on, you bastards!" Chen San roared.
He was a one-man army, fighting a bloody battle. Large swaths of monsters let out piercing shrieks in the flames as they recoiled, their skin curling and charring while their fat sizzled.
When the fuel in his flamethrower finally ran out, a momentary look of bewilderment appeared on his face, followed by a trace of despair that the others could see. The swarming monsters were about to swallow his lonely figure in an instant.
"Let's fight our way over!" Xu Xiaoyou threw out the command, charging into the monster horde with her blade raised.
"Let's go, Brother! Four-eyes can't hold on much longer!" Lin Xing also urged.
Lin Sheng hesitated for a second before his expression hardened. "Let's move."
"I'll lead the way! Lin Xing, don't let those monsters get near her!"
Roaring, Lin Sheng's muscles bulged, his entire body expanding by a full size. His greatsword, carrying the momentum of ten thousand bolts of lightning, charged into the horde to carve a path, slaying anything in his way!
Lin Xing quickly moved to Tang Xin's side, cleanly dispatching several mist people. "Move!" he shouted.
Tang Xin nodded and followed quickly.
The four of them forced a path of blood through the tide of monsters, fighting their way toward the dawn!
