Anya: "?"
Xu Xiaoyou cleared her throat to ease the awkward atmosphere.
Was that feeling just her imagination? At that thought, Xu Xiaoyou couldn't help but feel a little discouraged.
After waiting for another hour, it was almost noon. Xu Xiaoyou sat on the sofa and dialed a number.
The call was picked up quickly, and a young man's timid voice came through:
"Hello, who is this?"
"It's almost twelve o'clock. When do you plan to transfer the final payment for that old residential building?" Xu Xiaoyou asked.
"Sorry, sorry! I will, I will! I'm a bit tied up with something right now and can't find the time. I'll definitely transfer it once I'm finished."
Seeing the young man's tone over the phone, Xu Xiaoyou found it hard to say anything else. She put on a fierce facade and lowered her voice to threaten him:
"Don't try any little tricks. If you dare to owe me money, I'll find someone to break every bone in your body!"
"I know, I know. I'm a very honest person, really. I promise I'll give you the final payment..."
As the dial tone signaled the end of the call, the young man in the room on the other side of the line glanced at his phone screen. Once he confirmed the call was disconnected, he scoffed.
"Idiot! You think I'm going to pay the balance? I'll pay you shit!"
The young man, who had the facial features of a rabbit, lost all the timidness he had shown on the phone. His face changed instantly, twisting into a vicious sneer.
"I've seen plenty of idiots like you. You were in a hurry to sell the place because of some trouble, weren't you?"
"I'll just turn around and rent this place out. By the time you find someone to come to the door, you won't even find me. You want to threaten me? Eat my exhaust, hahahaha!"
"Who do you think I am? I'm a member of the Sly Rabbit Gang! I'm a cunning rabbit! You want to scam me?"
"In your dreams!"
"As for the unlucky bastard who rents this place, what does their death have to do with me? Idiots are beyond saving!"
Thinking this, the rabbit-faced youth looked around the room as if admiring his spoils of war.
He whistled happily and walked into the bathroom. Standing before the toilet, he unzipped his pants. This feeling of playing others in the palm of his hand made him deeply intoxicated.
Just then, a knock came from the door, followed by a sweet and pleasant female voice.
"Hello, is anyone home?"
He glanced at the shadow by the door and didn't bother to respond, continuing to whistle leisurely.
"Did some little sister lose her way? Honestly, she should be more careful in the animal community. There are hardly any good people here."
"You're lucky you ran into a law-abiding rabbit like me who isn't interested in women. If you'd met a bear-man or a pig-man, you'd be on your own. Hmph."
"Hello? Is there anyone at home?"
"So persistent. What the hell is she doing? Is she a door-to-door salesperson?" The rabbit-faced youth grew impatient and shouted toward the door frame: "Nobody's home! Get lost! I'm not interested in whatever product you're selling, and I'm not interested in you either. Do you hear me?"
The outside went silent for a moment. Just as the rabbit-faced man whistled again, thinking she had left, the entire iron door smashed inward like a cannonball with a thunderous boom.
"Holy shit, what the hell!"
The iron door, dented by dozens of centimeters, flew to his feet. The rabbit-faced youth was scared witless and rushed to pull up his pants.
After seeing the scene outside the door, he was completely stunned.
A young girl in white was currently waving away the dust in front of her. She walked in carrying a steam power hammer that was taller than a person.
"B-breaking and entering!? You... you... don't come any closer!" Seeing the gleaming power hammer, the rabbit-faced youth could barely speak as his body shook uncontrollably.
"Oh, so someone was home after all," Bai Youyou said with a smile.
The next moment, the sweet smile on the girl's face vanished, gradually turning cold.
"So, when I asked if anyone was home just now, why didn't you answer?"
Seeing things were taking a turn for the worse, the rabbit-faced youth tried to run, but Bai Youyou slammed him into the wall with a single strike of her hammer.
The entire wall cracked and collapsed under the terrifying force. The rabbit-faced youth fell to the ground in a pathetic heap.
"Pfft... cough... cough..."
Blood gushed from his mouth, and his consciousness began to fade. He felt as if every bone in his body had been shattered. His vision was a blur, and sharp pain surged through his nerves.
Bai Youyou grabbed him by the hair and lifted his head, forcing him to look her in the eye.
"Now, allow me to introduce myself. I am Bai Youyou, a three-winged investigator for the Fixer Association, ID X0172."
As she spoke, the corners of Bai Youyou's mouth curled up slightly, her eyes filled with a cold gaze as if she were looking at a corpse.
"You are suspected of murdering three grade 1 fixers and are a criminal closely related to multiple cases of kidnapping, fraud, and murder. Take a good look; this is an arrest warrant signed by the Sector 10 Security Bureau. Before you come with me to the station, is there anything else you'd like to say?"
The rabbit-faced youth's expression was blank, as if he had been broken. His jaw was severely dislocated. Clearly, he couldn't say a single word in his current state.
"You can file a complaint against me with the higher-ups of the Fixer Association through the Security Bureau for use of excessive force, or you can directly appeal to the online customer service through the Fixer Association app."
"Though I don't think it will be of any use."
"You are under arrest."
...
After that, Xu Xiaoyou took a quick nap. What woke her up wasn't the alarm she had set, but the sound of low growls coming from the living room.
"Woof! Woof woof woof!"
Xu Xiaoyou grabbed her pillow and pressed it against her ears, but the shouting had a piercing quality to it, coming one after another. Finally, Xu Xiaoyou lost her patience. She sat up and shouted toward the living room:
"Anya, shut up!"
"Woof woof!"
After hearing her voice, the other party didn't stop but instead barked even more vigorously.
Left with no choice, Xu Xiaoyou walked to the living room with a groggy face. Just as she was thinking about how to teach Anya a lesson so she would know there was a price to pay for waking her up, she noticed the little girl's abnormal behavior.
Anya was staring at a specific spot, crouching on the ground. Her nails had grown long, scratching at the floorboards. Her whole body was arched high as if her fur were standing on end—a posture only seen when a canine feels threatened.
Xu Xiaoyou's expression turned serious. She followed Anya's gaze.
There, in the hazy darkness, the silhouette of a figure was hanging from the living room ceiling.
The figure wore white clothes, with long hair covering her entire face and reaching down to her waist. Her skin was pale and bloodless.
She looked exactly like a female ghost from a horror movie!
A shrill and eerie laugh came from her mouth. Beneath the dry, long hair, a pair of blood-red pupils seemed to be staring fixedly at her.
Xu Xiaoyou turned on the living room light.
Stimulated by the light, the female ghost screamed: "Ah!"
