Chapter 80 · Volume 1

The Club

In other words, the leader of the Society of Truth was a Scholar, and judging by what the Society of Truth researched, this person was highly likely a multi-pathway Scholar.
It was honestly a bit terrifying. Mind Freya glanced at Euphy beside her, then at Augustus sitting opposite them. There was no need to elaborate on how powerful the Scholar Pathway was. If someone was deemed a genius even among Scholars by Augustus—a veteran extraordinary and a veteran Scholar himself—just how powerful must that guy be?
Augustus said, “So, Euphy, you mean you solved a case regarding the Society of Truth, and that's why your potion digested so quickly? But even so, it shouldn't be this fast...”
As he spoke, he sighed. “Ah, my granddaughter has her little secrets now and doesn't want to share them with her grandfather anymore.”
Euphy immediately pouted. “Grandfather!”
Augustus chuckled. “Alright, alright, I won't ask. I trust you have your own judgment. Just don't get yourself into anything too dangerous. No matter what you do, remember to prioritize your own safety above all else.”
“Well, I see it's about time, so I won't disturb you two any longer. I'll head back first and get those invitation letters sorted out for you.”
Augustus stood up. Euphy and Mind Freya rose at the same time to see him to the door, watching the elderly man walk away until he disappeared from view.
...
Meanwhile, shifting back to Freya's main body. Having accepted Amy's invitation, Freya was attending the 【Supernatural Research Society】 tonight. It wasn't an extraordinary organization at all; at most, it could only be considered a club.
The meeting was held at another manor villa not far from Amy's house. The two of them arrived after a few minutes' walk.
Just as they entered, a boy with short black hair came up to greet them, saying with a smile, “Amy, you're here!”
Upon seeing Freya, he also greeted her, “Is Freya joining the society meeting today too?”
Freya couldn't help but blink in surprise at his words. She nodded first. “Uh... yeah.”
Then, she whispered to Amy beside her, “Who is he?”
Amy was also taken aback. “Eh? That's Andrew, our classmate and class monitor. Fufu, you didn't know?”
Freya really didn't know. To put it bluntly, she didn't know the vast majority of people in her class and had no impression of them whatsoever.
Led by the class monitor, Freya and Amy entered a study. A square table sat in the center, and three people were already seated around it.
Freya and Amy found seats as well. Counting the class monitor, there were six people in total now.
Among them, the class monitor and another person were Freya's classmates, while the other two were from the neighboring class. In short, they all attended the same school. Furthermore, except for Freya and Amy, all four of them were nobles. It was precisely because they didn't have to worry about food or shelter that they were so curious about supernatural forces and had formed this club.
Of course, these four were relatively ordinary, minor nobles; otherwise, they would have already known about the extraordinary world.
Normally, for an ordinary person and commoner like Freya to participate in such a basic club and make friends with so many nobles would definitely be considered a leap in social class.
As the founder of the club, the class monitor, Andrew, introduced Freya to everyone. “This is Freya, our class's top student. She's incredibly smart!”
Andrew deliberately avoided mentioning Freya's full name or whether she was a noble. Naturally, the two from the neighboring class, who didn't know Freya, assumed she was also a noble and treated her with great friendliness.
What if they found out the truth later? At most, Andrew would just offer a brief apology. After all... he had never said Freya was a noble; they had simply misunderstood.
If that happened, the two from the neighboring class would have a slight grievance against Andrew at most, but by then, they would already be well-acquainted with Freya. They wouldn't dislike her over this, and since they were already close, they wouldn't ostracize her for being a commoner either.
As for the other classmate, a girl, she didn't expose Andrew's little scheme. Instead, she sat quietly to the side, waiting for the meeting to begin.
After introducing Freya, Andrew added, “There's one more person. He let me know in advance that he'd be arriving a bit late, so let's get started first.”
In reality, although the 【Supernatural Research Society】 sounded impressive, Freya's firsthand experience revealed it was nothing more than a chat session. Everyone simply gathered stories vaguely related to supernatural forces and brought them here to share. The others listened as if hearing fairy tales, occasionally chiming in with a few comments, and that was it.
As for investigating mysterious incidents, researching, and pursuing supernatural forces? Most of what people talked about were urban legends and various rumors. How could anyone investigate those?
During the meeting, Andrew's mother opened the door to bring them a platter of sliced fruit and snacks. Freya took one look at her expression and immediately found it hard to keep a straight face.
In the eyes of Andrew and the others, they were doing serious work and researching supernatural forces. But in the eyes of his parents, it was nothing more than a bunch of kids playing games.
Halfway through the meeting, the person Andrew had mentioned who would be late finally arrived. It was a girl wearing glasses. With an excited expression, she waved her hand and said, “Everyone, I found a real big shot! A true expert who has actually witnessed supernatural forces and knows a lot of related information!”
Another boy, about 1.7 meters tall, walked in behind her. He stood with his arms crossed, his expression calm and aloof. At first glance, he really did have the air of a big shot.
Andrew asked, “So, who is this?”
The girl with glasses introduced, “His name is David Lancaster. He's also a student at our school, but he's been pursuing supernatural forces and even went to the Fanipaca Empire for it. He hasn't been coming to school and only recently returned to the country.”
For a noble, remembering the surnames of other nobles was a basic skill. Thus, the moment the name 【David Lancaster】 was mentioned, many of them instantly knew his identity. He was a Viscount.
A noble status, the experience of going abroad to pursue supernatural forces, combined with the introduction from the girl with glasses, instantly established his impressive aura. Amy immediately said, “Wow... that's amazing!”
Freya, however, pondered for a moment. Why did this name sound so familiar to her? And he had just returned from the empire as well.
Wait, wasn't this the guy Victor had caught?
