“Any other way?” Euphemia looked thoughtful and said, “If you have some embarrassing past or dark secrets you don't want anyone to know, I can help you find some reliable Mind Readers. Even if they find out, they won't go around blabbing.”
But Freya shook her head. “It's not an embarrassing past, but a truly, incredibly important secret.”
Euphemia asked, “Is it about your ability to predict the future?”
Freya had already mentioned this when they first met; she wouldn't explain the source of her future information. Although Euphemia was quite curious about how it worked, since Freya was so resistant, she naturally wouldn't pry. Delving too deep into such matters would only damage their relationship.
Euphemia said, “Alright then, I'll look through some ancient texts first to see if there are other ways. Let's put the memory-reading option on hold for now.”
Freya looked a bit embarrassed. “Anyway... sorry to trouble you.”
Euphemia waved her hand. “It's fine, it's fine. No big deal!”
Freya thought for a moment and said, “Actually... if all else fails, maybe I could try to find a Mind Pathway potion? If I consume the potion myself and look through my own memories, would that work?”
After all, after 'defeating' Jerome and saving the city, her system had just upgraded again. This time, it naturally came with a new Save Slot 3, which meant she could cultivate another clone.
“Huh?” Euphemia was taken aback. “Are you serious? Everyone only gets one chance to choose a pathway. Are you really going to take the Mind Pathway just to investigate your Countless Blessings and Countless Resentments? If you ask me, you'd be better off taking the Earth or War Pathway.”
Freya countered, “Who knows? Maybe I have something similar for the Mind Pathway too, allowing me to skip digestion and go straight to Rank Five.”
A giant question mark practically appeared over Euphemia's head. Then, she pursed her lips, took a deep breath, walked up to Freya, and pinched her cheeks with both hands. “You... are you really not just showing off on purpose?”
Freya mumbled incoherently, “Nwo I'm nwooot~”
Finally breaking free from her clutches, she took a breath before continuing, “And I said 'maybe.' I'm not really sure myself.”
Euphemia said, “A Mind Pathway potion... that's tough. I don't have any connections for that, and I don't know where to get one. But I can help you get a Scholar Pathway potion. Do you want to try it and see if you can advance directly without digesting it?”
Freya actually looked like she was seriously considering it. “Well, it's not out of the question.”
Euphemia didn't hesitate either. “Alright, I'll write to my grandfather later and ask him to get me two bottles.”
After chatting a bit longer, Freya left Euphemia's new rented house to head home. Since it was getting late, Euphemia offered to walk her home to make sure she wouldn't be targeted by thugs, but Freya declined. “It's fine! Have you forgotten that I can see the future? Nothing dangerous will happen along the way.”
However, Euphemia frowned. Having noticed something through her micro-expression observation ability, she pinched Freya's cheek again. “Are you lying to me? No way, I'm definitely walking you back!”
In the end, accompanied by Euphemia, Freya returned home. Once Euphemia left, Freya calmed her mind and began to study her system. She discovered that aside from the new save slot, the maximum duration for a single simulation had been extended from one month to two months.
This was certainly great news for her. A longer simulation time meant she could see further into the future and perform more maneuvers. If she could have simulated two months from the very beginning, she wouldn't have missed out on that Destiny potion from the Special Service.
Speaking of which, did this mean she now had a chance to get her hands on that Destiny potion?
But Freya thought about it. The Special Service only had that one bottle of Destiny potion, and there were no subsequent ones. For this new save slot, she might as well consume the Scholar potion provided by Euphy.
Aside from all this, what Freya cared about most was, of course, the timing of her third death crisis. She looked at the very bottom of the system interface:
【Time remaining until the next death crisis: 1 year, 2 months, and 13 days】
“That's so long!” But right after blurting this out, Freya suddenly realized—the longer the countdown to the death crisis, didn't that mean she would be completely safe during this period? Wasn't that a good thing?
For a long time to come, she wouldn't have to run around trying to survive an impending death deadline. Instead, she could live a very comfortable life for a while.
Human beings truly were complex creatures. She still remembered when she had first transmigrated and encountered the extraordinary; she had been incredibly excited, fantasizing about gaining superpowers and becoming an unmatched, supreme being.
But after actually coming into contact with the extraordinary and going through so many trials, what she wanted most right now was to have a good rest.
Freya was actually a very lazy person at heart. This was obvious from her very first reaction upon getting the system—asking if there was a novice gift pack and how she could make money.
“Mnn, it would be so nice if I could just automatically grow stronger without doing anything~” Freya threw herself onto the bed, burying her head in a soft pillow, then pulled it tightly into her arms and rubbed her cheek against it.
After lying still for a moment, Freya slowly sat up. She couldn't forget that Life Freya was still out there.
After all, she had asked the Church of the Earth for help, so she couldn't just turn around and leave immediately after the crisis was resolved. Thus, Life Freya had accompanied Archbishop Pantheon and the others back to the church and stayed there for quite a while.
Pantheon didn't ask about her origins. Instead, he went into full praise mode, constantly complimenting her on how cute she was and how timely her assistance had been. Of course, the conversation eventually turned to the core question: what were Life Freya's plans for the future?
At that moment, Life Freya was sitting on a chair in the church, her legs pressed together and her hands resting on her lap, looking exceedingly well-behaved. After a brief pause, she said, “Mnn~ I'll probably stay in this city for a while.”
Hearing this, Pantheon's eyes widened. Just as he was about to speak, Life Freya added, “But I have another place to stay, so I won't be living at the church. Still, when I have free time, I'll come visit and help everyone out.”
Although it wasn't exactly what he had envisioned, this outcome was still excellent. It was essentially equivalent to the Church of the Earth in Auxerre suddenly gaining a Rank Five Saintess out of nowhere.
As for Life Freya, her main body, Freya, would definitely continue living in this city for a long time to come. It was highly likely that she would need the identity of Life Freya or the assistance of the Church of the Earth in the future, which was why she spoke so agreeably now.
Of course, when she said she would help out when she was 'free,' she meant it. After all, the Church of the Earth had helped her so much; it was only right to return the favor.
After finishing her conversation with Pantheon, Life Freya hopped off the chair, left the Church of the Earth, and headed back. On her way, she first went to the tailor shop where she had made her custom Saintess attire in the simulation. Even though it was very late, the shop's lights were surprisingly still on.
Using her Heart Perception ability, Life Freya could see that the elderly woman was currently rushing to finish some clothes. She tiptoed to the entrance, stealthily cracked the door open a sliver, and activated her ability, sending a wisp of pure life energy drifting into the elderly woman.
Having done this, Life Freya vanished into thin air. Back home, Freya recalled the clone, then first released Life Freya inside her bathroom.
Once Life Freya had stripped off all her clothes, Freya finally summoned War Freya. As expected, the moment War Freya appeared, blood was still spurting wildly from her wrists, spraying everywhere. Naturally, Life Freya, acting as the healer, was instantly splashed with blood.
One had to admit she possessed great foresight. If Life Freya's white dress had been drenched in blood, it would have been incredibly difficult to wash.
It was worth noting that if Freya entered a simulation using either the War Freya or Life Freya save slot and died in the simulation, she could simply choose not to save, resulting in zero consequences. However, if either War Freya or Life Freya was killed in reality, they would be dead for good.
If Freya wanted to recreate those save slots, she would have to run through simulations with her main body all over again, which would be a massive hassle.
But this didn't pose much of a problem for the current Freya. If a clone was on the verge of death, she could just recall them into the system inventory. With a super-healer like Life Freya around, as long as they weren't completely dead, they could usually be saved.
The healing didn't take long, and War Freya's wounds were completely healed. However, the bloodstains remained. War Freya and Life Freya then took a bath together and thoroughly scrubbed the bathroom. By the time they finished, two hours had already passed.
Freya casually recalled War Freya back into the system, then continued using Life Freya as a body pillow, drifting off into a comfortable sleep.
The next day, since Freya had already asked her teacher for a day off yesterday, and although the Jerome incident was over and she could theoretically go to school, she felt it would be a waste of a perfectly good day off to actually go back to class!
So Freya spent the entire day lounging lazily. She snuggled in bed until noon before finally getting up, then went to hang out with Euphemia in the afternoon. It wasn't until the third day that she returned to school for regular classes.
In this way, Freya's life temporarily returned to tranquility, as if this world had no extraordinary abilities and she was truly just an ordinary high school girl. The only difference was that as she became closer with Euphy again, she went home less and less, often staying over at Euphy's rented house.
However, on the tenth day, something happened that left Freya completely at a loss for words. That evening, right after school, she picked up a potion on her way to Euphemia's house.
It was a briefcase lying on the ground, left behind by some unknown person. The briefcase was open, and the potion had rolled out, coming to a stop right by Freya's feet. As she was walking around a corner, she hadn't noticed it at first and nearly stepped on the bottle.
At first, Freya thought it was just an ordinary glass bottle. But when she curiously picked it up and saw the liquid inside glowing with faint wisps of white light, she instantly realized it was a potion.
But the question was, why would a potion of unknown pathway and unknown rank just appear in a place like this?
Just then, a gentle breeze blew by. Freya looked up to scan her surroundings, hoping to find the owner of the potion and the briefcase. However, aside from a group of children who also seemed to have just finished school and were playing around, there wasn't a single adult in sight on the entire street.
Within this group of children, two of them began chasing each other. It seemed one had suddenly kicked the other's butt, laughing as he ran away, while the other chased him in embarrassment and anger. The two of them headed straight toward Freya.
Since the boy in front kept looking back at his friend while running, Freya would definitely get knocked over if she didn't dodge. Thus, she took a step back to clear the way.
But that very step proved fateful. Due to the breeze earlier, a pen had rolled out of the briefcase and ended up right under Freya's foot. Caught off guard, she stepped on it and instantly lost her balance.
“Whoa—whoa—”
After struggling to balance for a few seconds, the running child reached Freya's side. Although he didn't crash directly into her, they brushed against each other. This became the final straw. Freya slipped and fell flat on her back, the potion slipping from her grasp and flying into the air.
Smash!
Along with the crisp sound of shattering glass, the pale potion spilled all over the ground.
“I'm sorry, big sister, I'm so sorry! I didn't see you just now!” The child immediately panicked and began apologizing profusely. The other child chasing behind him also said, “We're sorry, we didn't mean to.”
At the same time, he didn't forget to scold the first boy, “Look at you, you caused trouble again!”
Freya, however, wore a bizarre expression. She slowly climbed up from the ground, glanced at the shattered potion, then at the pen on the ground, and finally at the two children before her. “It's fine. I don't blame you.”
