Chapter 166 · Volume 1

Lamb

“Bang! Bang! Bang!” The sound of bullets hitting a crystal object echoed continuously. In the center of the shooting range, supported by marble pillars, a dummy made of magic crystal bore the brunt of repeated attacks, regenerating itself after each one.
This was the course Li Yue had chosen after selecting her magic. While it was called a course, it was actually just shooting practice. Practicing shooting while everyone else was obsessively studying spells felt quite surreal to Li Yue in this magical world.
A significant number of trainees were enrolled in this course. Some did so out of interest, while others were looking for a shortcut. Bullets propelled by gunpowder could rival many spells in power, and their extreme speed made them difficult to dodge. For the upcoming exams, practicing shooting was essentially a fast track to a high score.
“So many people... how annoying...” Li Yue sighed, a hint of irritation appearing between her brows. She had originally thought this was a course almost no one would attend.
“Phew, an eighty percent hit rate. Not bad!” The man standing next to Li Yue let out a breath, seemingly very satisfied with his performance. A faint green light emanated from his eyes, which seemed to contain some kind of magic runes.
Li Yue glanced at the humanoid target across from him as it was regenerating. The bullet holes scattered across the chest were not particularly concentrated.
Ah, so this guy holds the chest line instead of the head line...
“What kind of magic is that?” A female classmate nearby quickly approached him. She leaned in to examine the runes in the man’s eyes, her serious expression suggesting she didn’t notice how close she was getting. By the time she stepped back, the man’s face was flushed red.
“I can’t recognize it. Tell me what magic it is!”
“Alright, alright, my lady. I’ll tell you, okay?”
...
Li Yue took a sip of water, her throat feeling strangely dry just now.
She let out a long breath and raised her gun with one hand. Since she planned to use dual pistols in the future, she needed to adapt to handling the recoil with a single hand. As for the long sword she excelled at, she likely wouldn't use that against other trainees.
She was afraid a casual strike might accidentally slice the opponent in half.
“Bang, bang, bang!” A series of rapid shots rang out. First the spleen—the spleen was brittle and prone to rupturing, which could easily cause massive internal bleeding—followed by the liver, then both lungs, the heart, the cervical spine, the carotid artery, the center of the forehead, and both temples...
“Heavens, you didn't miss a single shot! You hit every vital organ!” the man exclaimed. The girl looked curiously at Li Yue’s eyes, seemingly trying to confirm if there was any magic within them.
“And she didn't even use magic,” the girl said, giving the man a nudge with her elbow.
“Just lucky.” Li Yue put her gun away, feeling a slight warmth in her eyes.
“My magic only enhances my vision right now. It just makes the trajectory of the bullets clearer,” the man sighed. “It’s only a slight help for shooting. Besides, she must have practiced much more than I have.”
“Your eyes are so beautiful, classmate,” the girl said with a slight smile. “They’re red, like gemstones.”
“Thank you.”
“I feel like they could rival the eyes of the gods described in books!” The girl’s eyes sparkled. Hearing this, Li Yue froze for a moment and gave a somewhat awkward smile.
“The eyes of a deity should have far more powerful abilities. I doubt the holder would choose a weapon like a revolver.”
“I’ve heard that the eyes of some ancient gods could see the future and the past. They were incredibly powerful!” the man added after a thought.
“Really?!” The girl’s eyes continued to sparkle.
“Let me tell you the story...”
Li Yue turned away, not particularly interested in these tales. So what if they could see the future? They were still killed by me when it was time for them to die. Seeing the future is just like getting a spoiler; you know the plot in advance, but you can’t do anything to change it.
“The name you used is wrong. The king of the Western Continent was clearly named Gilgamesh.”
“You mean the King of Heroes?!”
“...”
Is everyone telling stories now...
Li Yue looked at the growing crowd around her and felt a headache coming on. It felt like this was turning into a tea party.
However, the names they were discussing... I seem to have some memory of them, but I can’t quite recall... Once I find a few more pieces of God’s remains or use their power, I’ll probably remember...
But there’s no need. Those names have already vanished into the previous chapter of the long scroll of fate. There is no point in discussing stories that have already been turned over.
It’s not like it can change anything anyway...
Can’t change anything...
Hmm?
Li Yue lightly pressed her hand against her forehead. A series of inexplicable pangs of pain caused her both discomfort and a sense of vertigo.
What is... happening to me?
...
Inside a magnificent hall, the echoes of harmonious music and human voices were endless. Knights holding poleaxes and broadswords stood on both sides of the aisle, with sculpted sacred beasts standing behind them. A water-blue carpet stretched from the main entrance all the way to the divine throne of the hall.
“My lady, we have found a lead regarding the investigation of the heretic.”
“He abandoned the holy doctrine we believe in and vanished into the dark night, away from the light of the Lord. It was his own choice, a profanation of divine grace!”
“Silence!” a blonde girl spoke softly. She opened her eyes slightly, and a faint golden light seeped from her pupils.
“We shall pray for his soul. May he be able to look into his own heart on the final Judgment Day. If he feels even a shred of repentance in his final moments, perhaps there will be a glimmer of redemption within the fires of hell.”
The girl’s voice was warm yet powerful. Under her radiance, those around her could not help but bow their heads. She took a few steps forward, her feet bound by chains making a slight metallic clinking sound against the floor.
Several knights in armor walked in slowly. Following behind them was a mage dressed in white robes.
“My lady, we have made significant progress.”
“What is it?”
“At the scene, we also discovered residual traces of the aura of ‘Death’!”
