Chapter 96 · Volume 1

Primordial Divine Power

The God King stood before the gates of the Eternal Abyss, his brow furrowed as he watched the massive doors slowly creak shut.
Lilith had already gone back to rest, but he couldn't afford that luxury yet.
There was still no word from the Primordial Gods.
“I need to ask the senior again,” he whispered to himself. With a flash of light, he vanished from the spot.
...
Deep within the Eternal Abyss, amidst the everlasting darkness.
The elderly man still stood there, as if he had never moved an inch.
His eyes were closed, appearing to be in deep meditation, or perhaps simply waiting.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and looked ahead.
A golden light flashed, and the God King appeared before him.
“Senior.”
The God King bowed respectfully.
The elderly man nodded.
“Your Majesty, back again?”
“Yes.” The God King straightened up and looked at the elder. “Senior, may I ask... have you contacted the Primordial Gods? Are they willing to help?”
The elderly man remained silent for a moment before letting out a long sigh.
“Sigh.”
That single sigh made the God King’s heart sink.
“I made contact, but they all refused,” the elderly man said slowly, his voice tinged with helplessness.
“The Primordial Gods have lived for far too long; their attachment to the God Realm faded ages ago. They don't care if the God Realm lives or dies, nor do they care what lies within the Eternal Abyss. I wasted quite a bit of breath, but they merely said they acknowledged the situation and then fell silent.”
The God King clenched his fists, his expression turning grim.
“Not even one of them is willing to come?”
“Not one,” the elder shook his head. “They said this is the God Realm’s own affair, and they have no wish to interfere.”
The God King fell silent.
He had expected this outcome, but hearing it confirmed still brought a wave of disappointment.
The Primordial Gods were the oldest existences in the God Realm and its greatest combat assets. With their help, the chances of dealing with the entity inside the Eternal Abyss would have been much higher.
But now...
“It seems we can only rely on ourselves,” he murmured, his voice laced with resolve.
The elderly man glanced at him and suddenly chuckled.
“Your Majesty, don't be so quick to despair.”
The God King was taken aback. “What do you mean, Senior?”
“While the Primordial Gods are unwilling to personally intervene, one of them did provide something.”
As he spoke, the elder reached into the void.
A box appeared in his hand.
It wasn't large—only about the size of a palm—and was pitch-black, with complex golden patterns carved into its surface. Those patterns glowed faintly in the darkness, radiating an ancient and mysterious aura.
The God King looked at the box with confusion. “What is this?”
“Primordial Divine Power.”
The elderly man explained, “That Primordial God said he enjoys seeking amusement, so he wants to see what is inside the Eternal Abyss as well. Contained within this box is a strand of his divine power. Once used, it will grant you the strength of a Primordial God for ten minutes.”
The God King’s pupils constricted.
“Primordial Divine Power?”
“Indeed.” The elder nodded. “Though it is but a single strand, it is the power of a Primordial God nonetheless. For ten minutes, your strength will be elevated to their level. While you won't be a match for a true Primordial God, it should be enough to deal with the thing inside the Eternal Abyss.”
The God King took a sharp breath.
The power of a Primordial God!
That was the oldest and most powerful force in the God Realm!
Even if it only lasted ten minutes, a Primordial God’s power was enough to change the course of a war!
“Ten minutes...” he whispered to himself. “If I obtain the power of a Primordial God, I am highly confident I can wipe out whatever exists inside the Eternal Abyss within those ten minutes.”
The elderly man smiled.
“Then it all depends on you.”
He handed the box to the God King.
The God King took the box; it felt ice-cold to the touch, as if he were holding a block of frozen metal. A powerful surge of energy pulsed from within, making his heart race.
“Thank you, Senior.”
He bowed deeply, his tone full of respect.
“No need for formalities,” the elder waved his hand. “I am a part of the God Realm as well; protecting it is my duty.”
He paused before adding:
“However, Your Majesty, I must give you a warning.”
“Please, Senior.”
“A Primordial God’s power is formidable, but it is also dangerous,” the elder said gravely. “Your body may not be able to withstand it. Ten minutes is the absolute limit. If you exceed ten minutes, your body will crumble, and your soul will dissipate.”
The God King nodded. “I understand.”
“Also, this power can only be used once,” the elder added. “Once it’s gone, it’s gone. You must use it at the most critical moment.”
“I will remember that.”
The God King tucked the box away and bowed once more.
“Then I shall go and regroup.”
The elderly man nodded. “Go.”
The God King turned and vanished into the darkness.
The elder watched the direction he had gone and sighed.
“Primordial Divine Power...”
He whispered to himself.
“I hope you can endure it.”
...
Lilith lay on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
She was going back to the Eternal Abyss soon to face that shadow entity again.
Just thinking about it gave her a headache.
“Sigh...”
She sighed and rolled over.
“How did I get stuck with this mess?”
She clearly just wanted to be a lazy Demon King, eating, drinking, and having fun every day without any fighting.
And the result?
One trouble after another, each bigger than the last.
“What a hard life I lead...”
She grumbled softly, then closed her eyes, preparing to sleep.
But she tossed and turned, unable to drift off.
Her mind was filled with images of that shadow entity.
That pitch-black hand piercing her chest, crushing her heart.
That agonizing pain, that coldness, that despair...
She shivered.
“No, don't think about it.”
She forced herself to calm down.
“I have to go and die... I mean, make a tactical sacrifice again. I need to get some proper rest.”
She closed her eyes and eventually fell asleep.
...
The next day.
Lilith went to the God King's Palace.
The God King was already waiting for her.
“Ready?” he asked.
Lilith nodded. “Ready.”
She looked at the God King and noticed his expression was quite solemn. He was also holding a black box.
“What's that?” she asked, pointing at the box.
The God King looked down at the box, then back at Lilith.
“There is news.”
Lilith arched an eyebrow. “The Primordial Gods agreed to help?”
“No,” the God King shook his head. “The Primordial Gods aren't coming to help personally.”
Lilith curled her lip. “Then why are you looking so serious?”
“However,” the God King paused, “one of the Primordial Gods lent me his power.”
Lilith was stunned. “Lent it to you?”
“Yes.” The God King nodded, lifting the box. “Inside this box is a strand of Primordial Divine Power. Using it will grant me the strength of a Primordial God for ten minutes.”
Lilith’s eyes lit up. “The power of a Primordial God? Isn't that super strong?”
“Very strong,” the God King said. “Even if it’s only for ten minutes, a Primordial God’s power is enough to change the course of the battle.”
Lilith thought for a moment and asked, “And the side effects?”
The God King glanced at her. “How did you know there were side effects?”
“Duh.” Lilith rolled her eyes. “How could something that powerful not have a catch? If it didn't have side effects, the Primordial Gods would have ruled the world long ago.”
The God King chuckled. “There are indeed side effects. Ten minutes is the limit. If I go over ten minutes, my body will crumble and my soul will dissipate.”
Lilith frowned. “That serious?”
“Yes.” The God King nodded. “So, it must be saved for the critical moment.”
Lilith pondered this and then nodded.
“Ten minutes? That should be enough.”
She looked at the God King and suddenly smiled.
“But you better be careful. Don't end up dead because you ran out of time.”
The God King smiled back. “Don't worry, I won't die that easily.”
He put the box away and looked at Lilith.
“Shall we set out?”
Lilith nodded. “Let’s go.”
The two of them left the God King's Palace and flew toward the Eternal Abyss.
On the way, the God King explained the details of the box.
He mentioned how the Primordial Gods had refused to help, but one had provided his divine power, and he detailed the side effects of using it.
Lilith listened and remained silent for a moment.
“Why was that Primordial God willing to give you his power?”
The God King thought about it and said, “The senior said that Primordial God enjoys seeking amusement, so he wants to see what’s inside the Eternal Abyss as well.”
Lilith arched an eyebrow. “Seeking amusement? Lending you power so you can go and die counts as seeking amusement?”
“Perhaps,” the God King replied. “The Primordial Gods have lived too long; their perspective is different from ours. To them, the survival of the God Realm might not be important, but they are very interested in things that are interesting.”
Lilith curled her lip. “What a weirdo.”
“Indeed,” the God King agreed. “But regardless, he gave us an opportunity. Ten minutes of Primordial God strength is enough for us to accomplish many things.”
Lilith thought for a moment and asked, “So, when do you plan to use it?”
“At the critical moment,” the God King said. “Once we find that shadow entity and get its measure... we'll go for a one-hit kill.”
Lilith nodded. “Alright.”
Soon, the two arrived at the gates of the Eternal Abyss.
The divine generals were stunned to see the God King and Lilith arriving together.
“Your Majesty, you are...”
“Open the gates,” the God King commanded. “We are going in.”
The divine generals looked at each other, but they didn't dare ask questions and quickly opened the gates.
Rumble!!!
The gates slowly opened, revealing the bottomless darkness within.
The God King looked into that darkness and took a deep breath.
“Are you ready?”
Lilith nodded. “Ready.”
“Then... let’s go.”
The two stepped forward and entered the Eternal Abyss.
The gates slowly closed behind them.
