Lilith looked at Karl and frowned.
“I just feel that your actions don’t really fit our academy’s style.”
Karl was stunned for a moment, then laughed loudly. “Hahaha! I am a genius. I believe the academy will understand anything I do!”
His smile gradually twisted, and his voice became sinister. “You’re just a piece of trash who sleeps all day. What right do you have to be a genius?”
“But it doesn’t matter now, because I’m already the number one genius! Now, do you remember what I said when we entered? I’m going to make you pay a hundredfold for your arrogance that day!”
Before he finished speaking, Karl had already thrown a punch!
The golden light fist shone brightly, rushing directly toward Lilith’s face with the sound of breaking air.
Lilith took a step back, dodging the strike with perfect timing. The light fist smashed into a tree trunk, instantly snapping it in half.
“Tsk, such a nasty temper,” Lilith muttered to herself, turning to fly at a low altitude toward the depths of the forest.
“Thinking of running?” A sharp glint flashed in Karl’s eyes. Golden light surged around him as he transformed into a streak of light and chased after her.
The two of them soared over the forest, one after the other, with trees quickly receding beneath their feet.
“The genius Lilith—why is she running away so pathetically now?” Karl mocked as he pursued her, waving his hands to fire beams of light as thick as arms at Lilith from different angles.
Lilith could only dodge in the air. The beams of light grazed the edge of her clothes, shattering the trees below into pieces.
“Strange...” Lilith frowned as she dodged. “The divine power inside Karl has been hiding from me; it hasn’t truly manifested yet.”
She could feel that the abnormal power within Karl was always in a dormant state. Whenever her perception tried to approach and investigate, that power would instantly shrink back deep into Karl’s body.
This situation left Lilith feeling somewhat speechless.
Just then, she suddenly turned around and waved her right hand.
An invisible slash shot out through the air. Its speed was incredibly fast, yet it rarely revealed its flight trajectory.
This was the result of Lilith intentionally holding back. Her slashing magic was originally instantaneous upon casting; it wouldn’t have such an obvious flight trajectory at all.
Karl’s pupils constricted. He performed a backflip in the air, narrowly dodging the slash.
“Boom!”
The slash grazed the edge of Karl’s clothes and flew past, cutting down dozens of large trees behind him. The cross-sections were as smooth as mirrors, and the trees collapsed with a roar, kicking up clouds of dust.
Karl’s expression changed slightly after he landed. He was secretly alarmed. “Damn it, the speed and power of that strike just now exceeded my expectations. If Lilith’s attack effects hadn’t been so obvious, I might not have been able to react at all.”
“This girl...” Karl grit his teeth, a wave of irritation rising in his heart.
He took to the air again and continued the pursuit.
Lilith maintained a distance that was neither too close nor too far, always making Karl feel as if he was just about to catch up, yet never quite could.
In this way, the two of them made a large circle over the forest.
In the spectator stands, everyone held their breath.
“Student Lilith has been dodging... Is she afraid to engage him head-on?”
“But did you see the power of that slash just now? Those trees were condensed from mana by a Great Mage; their hardness is comparable to steel!”
“But Young Master Karl clearly has the upper hand; he’s been chasing and attacking the whole time.”
“But Student Lilith seems to be doing it with ease...”
Amidst the discussion, Principal Aurora stroked his beard, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes.
“You old fox, what are you smiling about?” Vice Principal Glen noticed his expression.
“Nothing.” Aurora shook his head. “I just feel that some young people are too anxious to prove themselves, and instead, they reveal their weaknesses.”
“Are you talking about Karl?”
Aurora didn’t answer, only continued to watch the projection.
...
Inside the Mirage Corridor.
Lilith flew in a circle around the forest and returned to the vicinity of the original battlefield.
She glanced at Lin Yu, Wright, and Mo Fan below, seeing the three of them still standing there.
Wright clutched his chest, his face pale; he was clearly seriously injured. Mo Fan gripped his greatsword, warily watching the battle in the sky. Lin Yu looked up at her with a complex gaze.
Lilith suddenly accelerated!
Her figure blurred into an afterimage, instantly leaving Karl dozens of meters behind. Then, she came to a sudden stop, turned, and landed in front of Lin Yu and the others.
Lilith merely gave a signal with her eyes and then instantly appeared in the distance.
Lin Yu was stunned for a moment, and although his face turned pale, he still nodded heavily. “Alright!”
He turned and quickly said a few words to Wright and Mo Fan. Although both were injured, they showed determined expressions after hearing the plan.
“Hold Karl back!” Lin Yu barked.
Just as he finished speaking, Karl had already caught up and landed with a boom.
“Running? Why aren’t you running anymore?”
Karl sneered, golden light surging around him. “Or have you finally realized that running is useless? Hahahaha!”
His words came to an abrupt halt.
Because Mo Fan had already gripped his sword with both hands and swung it at him with all his might!
“Looking for death!” Karl was furious and raised his hand to block.
“Clang!”
The greatsword collided with the golden light, producing a loud metallic clang.
Mo Fan was shaken back three steps, blood flowing down the hilt of his sword, but he grit his teeth and stood firmly in front of Karl.
Karl was about to use a skill to completely finish off this nuisance, but his expression suddenly changed.
The mana in his body... was insufficient.
“Damn it!” Karl cursed inwardly. “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have tried to show off so much. Blowing up that mountain consumed too much mana, and now I can’t even use my skills! My mana-enhanced body is also starting to weaken because of the decrease in mana.”
In the moment he was distracted, Lin Yu had already appeared silently behind him and pressed his hands onto Karl’s shoulders.
Lin Yu let out a low shout, and the sapphire at the tip of his staff burst with light.
A light blue water screen surged from the ground, quickly enveloping Karl. Although it was only a Rank 2 magic, at this moment when Karl’s mana was low and his mind was shaken, it actually managed to temporarily restrict his movements.
“You...” Karl was both surprised and furious.
Wright also endured the pain and rushed forward, using the last of his strength to pin down Karl’s other arm.
Three people—one Rank 3 early stage and two Rank 2s—had actually managed to temporarily restrain the Rank 4 peak Karl!
“Lilith, do it quickly!” Lin Yu shouted, the veins on his forehead bulging. The water prison was trembling violently, clearly unable to trap Karl for long.
Mo Fan also roared, “Hurry! We won’t be able to hold him much longer!”
Lilith, however, did not act immediately.
She stood not far away, her red eyes fixed on Karl, her perception fully expanded.
“Wait a little longer...” she whispered to herself.
The power inside Karl was becoming restless.
“Let go of me! You fools!” Karl roared, the golden light around him surging.
Cracks began to appear in the water prison, and Lin Yu’s face instantly turned as white as paper.
Wright even spat out a mouthful of blood, his hand pinning Karl’s arm beginning to tremble.
