After Eve closed her eyes and thought for a moment, she finally squeezed out a single word.
“God.”
The composure on Veen’s face froze instantly.
Though that emotion only appeared for a split second, Lilith caught it.
She couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled.
“God?” Lilith looked at Veen.
Veen remained silent for two seconds, then twitched the corner of his mouth.
“It is nothing, Your Majesty. They are merely a group of hypocrites who fancy themselves saints. They claim to be maintainers of order, but in reality, they enjoy hiding behind the scenes and meddling in various worlds.”
“I just never expected... that they would actually get involved.”
Lilith turned back to Eve, who was rubbing her eyes, looking like she might fall back asleep at any moment.
“Eve, do you know why? Why would a god help Karl...?”
Eve shook her head.
“Don’t... know...” She let out a yawn. “Just felt a divine aura... interfering... very faint... but definitely there...”
After saying that, her eyes began to slowly close again, and her body swayed as she prepared to collapse back onto the cushions.
Lilith quickly reached out to steady her. “Wait! Be a bit clearer!”
“Mm... sleepy...” Eve mumbled indistinctly, her head tilting to rest on Lilith’s shoulder. Her breathing soon became steady once more.
...She was asleep again.
Lilith looked at the Third of the Four Calamities in her arms, speechless. She sighed and gently laid her back on the cushions.
She looked at Veen.
“Are... gods strong?”
Veen smiled.
“Of course they are strong. Any being capable of trans-planar intervention in a world’s operation cannot be weak. They possess powers that many worlds do not.”
He changed the subject and looked at Lilith, a subtle light flashing in his golden eyes.
“However, none of them are as powerful as you, Your Majesty.”
Lilith was stunned for a moment.
Veen’s expression was serious; he didn't seem to be joking.
She didn't know if Veen was comforting her or telling the truth. But she didn't think Veen would joke at a time like this.
“I originally thought a new Child of the World had been born naturally.”
Veen picked up his teacup again, his tone returning to its usual composure. “I didn’t expect... that a god would descend and attempt to forcibly intervene in the world to catalyze the creation of a Child of the World.”
Lilith was confused again.
“Wait, wait, wait,” she raised a hand in a 'stop' gesture. “What is a Child of the World? ...What exactly is that?”
Veen set down his teacup and explained patiently:
“A Child of the World, as the name suggests, is an extraordinary being forcibly created by the world's will when it faces a major crisis.”
“They are usually born into a certain race and carry a portion of the world’s destiny. They are powerful and grow rapidly, generally ranging from Rank 8 to above Rank 9, and may even reach... the God Realm.”
“Their mission is usually to resolve a disaster threatening the world or to push the world in a certain direction. In a sense, they are the world's agent.”
Lilith suddenly understood.
“I see... like the savior in stories?”
“Similar,” Veen nodded. “But more absolute. Once a Child of the World is born, they are almost destined to complete their mission, unless they are forcibly erased by a more powerful external force.”
He paused and added:
“And this world’s previous Child of the World was killed by the former Demon King. That was a quite tragic battle. The Child of the World eventually fell, and the Demon King was also wounded.”
“Therefore, this world currently has no Child of the World.”
Lilith digested this information.
Then, she caught the key point.
“So...” she looked at Veen, “Why would a god descend and forcibly create a Child of the World?”
“This world doesn't currently have a major crisis. Though the demon race exists, you have no intention of a large-scale invasion. Human internal affairs are also relatively stable.”
“Why would a god go through the trouble of interfering with a peaceful world to forcibly catalyze a Child of the World?”
Veen stood up.
He walked to the window and looked out at the dark red sky of the Demon Realm, his silhouette appearing somewhat solemn.
“That is also what I am considering. Gods usually do not interfere in a world without reason.”
“Perhaps they have foreseen a certain future. Perhaps they want to guide this world in a certain direction. Perhaps... they want to use this Child of the World to deal with something.”
He turned around and looked at Lilith.
“Your Majesty, do you need me to go and deal with that Karl?”
Lilith shook her head.
“There's no need.”
“...Very well.”
He respected Lilith’s decision. Although in his view, erasing a potential threat like a Child of the World early was the simplest and most effective approach.
But Lilith was the Demon King. Her will was his command.
Just then, Lilith tore open space.
She looked back at Veen.
“Alright, I’m going back.”
Veen bowed slightly.
“Goodbye, Your Majesty.”
Lilith stepped into the crack.
...
The dormitory.
The spatial crack closed.
Lilith stood in the middle of the room, looking at the night view of the Holy City Magic Academy outside the window.
Karl, that Rank 4 genius who reached it in half a month, had a god meddling behind him.
And Orosius, the First of the Four Calamities who was about to return.
“Orosius alone was enough pressure...” Lilith sighed and collapsed onto the bed. “Now there's a god too...”
She stared at the ceiling.
“A pile of trouble.”
She rolled over and buried her face in the pillow.
“Forget it, I’ll sleep first.”
Even the biggest problems can wait until after I wake up.
