The next day, when Lilith woke up, the sun was shining brightly. She stretched and, remembering she had to return to the Holy City today, quickly got up to wash.
Veen was already waiting for her in the corridor. He held a tray with normal food from the human world.
“Good morning, Your Majesty.” Veen bowed slightly and handed over the tray. “Considering you might be in a hurry, I prepared some portable snacks.”
Lilith’s eyes lit up. She took the tray, looked it over, and nodded in satisfaction.
“Thanks!” She unceremoniously took a bite of a cake. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. “Mmm, this is good!”
Veen smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”
Lilith finished breakfast in no time. Dusting the crumbs off her hands, she looked at Veen. “Alright, I’ve had my fill. Time to get to work. Send me back to the Holy City.”
Veen nodded. “Of course, Your Majesty. Please follow me.”
He led Lilith to the teleportation circle outside the Demon King's Palace.
Lilith stood in the center of the circle and urged him, “Hurry and prep the teleportation circle. Target somewhere near the Holy City Magic Academy, somewhere discreet.”
Veen didn't start drawing the array immediately. Instead, he looked at her thoughtfully and suggested, “Your Majesty, are you sure you don’t want to learn teleportation magic yourself? With your current level of magic control, learning basic spatial teleportation shouldn’t be difficult.”
“Or, you could even try using your magic to tear through space directly to move. The effect is similar to teleportation magic, but it’s more convenient and can cover greater distances.”
Lilith shook her head like a rattle. “Forget it, forget it! Space magic sounds like a pain. Besides, if I don't learn it right and end up teleported to some weird place... I don't even want to imagine that!”
She had a look of pure rejection on her face. “A pre-made teleportation circle is more reliable. At least the destination is certain.”
Veen gave a helpless smile and didn't push further.
He extended his finger, and with magic glowing at the tip, he began to quickly draw on the ground. A few minutes later, the teleportation circle was complete.
“It’s ready, Your Majesty.” Veen stepped back.
Lilith was about to step in when she suddenly remembered something and slapped her forehead. “Oh! I almost forgot!”
She turned to Veen. “When I dealt with Samael at the border city, I manually deactivated the disguise spell you gave me. Now that I’m heading back to human territory, I need to disguise myself again. Quick, do it for me so I don’t get exposed.”
Veen nodded, stepped forward, and placed a hand on top of Lilith’s head. A few seconds later, he withdrew his hand.
Her powerful aura vanished, and the horns on her forehead disappeared.
Lilith felt her forehead and nodded in satisfaction. “Mhm, all set!”
She turned, ready to enter the teleportation circle.
“Your Majesty,” Veen suddenly called out.
Lilith looked back in confusion. “What is it, Veen? Something else?”
Veen didn't speak; he simply held out his hand. Above his palm, the air rippled slightly, and a golden scroll slowly emerged. The scroll looked quite old.
“What’s this? ...” Lilith looked at the scroll curiously.
“A small gift.” Veen handed the scroll to Lilith. “A Super-tier time-attribute magic scroll.”
“Time-attribute? And Super-tier?”
Lilith took the scroll; it felt slightly heavy in her hand. She opened it and glanced inside, but the dense array of magic runes made her dizzy after just one look, so she quickly closed it.
“This... might as well be gibberish to me.”
Lilith spoke honestly. “Time magic sounds incredibly powerful, but this is way too complicated. And it's Super-tier... Can I even learn this now?”
Veen explained, “Time magic is indeed extremely rare and difficult to master. Its requirements for talent are nearly impossible to meet. Most demons—and most races, for that matter—lack the aptitude to learn time magic.”
“This scroll has been in the Demon Realm’s collection for centuries, yet no one has been able to truly decipher and cast the magic recorded within. To the demon race, it is more of an antique than a practical power.”
He looked at Lilith. “But you are different, Your Majesty. With your talent, it might be worth a try.”
“Furthermore, the specific effects of the magic recorded in this scroll are unknown; even the original owner left no clear records. It could be immensely powerful, or it could be utterly useless—it might even carry unknown risks. Whether you choose to learn it is entirely up to you.”
Lilith weighed the scroll in her hand. This thing sounded like a mystery box—a high-difficulty mystery box at that.
Still, since it was a freebie—and a time-attribute one at that, which sounded very high-end—she might as well take it.
“Alright then, thanks!” She tossed the scroll into her personal storage space. “I’ll keep it for now and look into it when I have time.”
Veen smiled and said no more. He stepped back and activated the teleportation circle.
“Your Majesty, have a safe journey.”
A flash of light occurred. In the next second, Lilith was standing in a secluded grove on the outskirts of the Holy City.
“Phew... the air here smells a bit better.” Lilith took a deep breath, identified her surroundings, and walked quickly toward the Holy City Magic Academy.
She slipped back into the academy with practiced ease, avoided the crowds, took out her card, and returned to her single suite.
“Ah! Finally back!” She cheered, throwing herself onto her familiar bed and rolling around with her pillow.
She lay sprawled on the bed for a while, checking the sky outside the window.
“Mhm... it’s only morning, still plenty of time.” She calculated. “I’ll catch up on some sleep first, then go see Principal Aurora in the afternoon for those high-level magic books. If I oversleep and stand him up for a day, it’s no big deal.”
She stared at the ceiling, slowly closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, in the principal’s office, Principal Aurora was still waiting for the mysterious black-robed powerhouse. “Hmm? Strange, why isn't she here yet? Well, I'll wait a bit longer.”
And so, one slept in the dormitory while the other waited.
