Once the three of them arrived at the village.
“First, we need to find a place to buy a carriage,” Elena said, clearly familiar with such matters. “Kalman, go and ask the villagers if anyone has a carriage for sale.”
The old Steward nodded and went to inquire about prices from the villagers who owned horses.
Lilith stood where she was, her gaze sweeping across the wooden houses.
“Um,” Lilith suddenly spoke up, “I’m going to find a place to change my clothes.”
Elena turned to her. “Would you like me to accompany you?”
“No, no,” Lilith waved her hands hurriedly. “I’ll be back soon.”
She wasn’t used to being watched while changing.
With that, she walked toward the other side of the village.
Elena watched her back, hesitating for a moment before ultimately deciding not to follow.
Lilith reached the edge of the village and, after confirming no one was around, slipped into an empty wooden shack.
She closed her eyes and sank her consciousness into her personal storage space.
She looked at the pile of clothes and sifted through them, only to find that each one was more extravagant than the last.
Lilith fell silent.
She rummaged through the space for quite a while before finally discovering a few relatively plain outfits at the bottom of a chest.
“This one will do.”
As her consciousness returned, the dress was already in Lilith’s hands.
She quickly stripped off her current robe and stuffed it back into the space.
She then pulled a pair of short boots from the space. “Thank goodness there are shoes in here, or I would have really lost it.”
Once she was fully dressed, Lilith looked herself over.
Nodding in satisfaction, she headed back toward the village entrance.
Elena and Kalman had already agreed on a price.
A carriage that looked like it had seen many years of use was parked by the roadside. A coachman was speaking with Kalman.
“Miss Lilith!” Elena’s eyes lit up when she saw her. “You’re back? That dress suits you very well.”
Lilith gave a vague hum of acknowledgement, her gaze falling on the carriage.
“Is the deal done?” she asked.
“Yes,” Elena nodded. “This gentleman is willing to sell us the carriage and include two horses. It’s ten gold coins in total.”
Ten gold coins. Lilith thought of the two hundred coins she had in her pocket as a deposit and suddenly felt that Elena was quite generous with her spending.
“By the way,” she suddenly remembered, “I’m hungry. Is there a place to eat in the village?”
Elena blinked, then smiled. “There is. There’s an inn up ahead; they should be able to provide meals.”
The three of them walked toward the inn.
Pushing the door open, they found the interior dimly lit. A plump, middle-aged woman looked up from behind the counter, her face instantly breaking into a smile upon seeing strangers.
“Welcome, guests! Are you here for a meal or a room?”
“A meal,” Elena said. “What do you recommend?”
“We have stew and roast meat today,” the landlady introduced enthusiastically. “The meat was just brought in today.”
“Then we’ll have three servings of stew and some roast meat,” Elena said, finding a table by the window to sit down.
Lilith sat across from her, her eyes fixed on the direction of the kitchen.
When the food was served, her eyes lit up.
Lilith picked up a spoon and took a large mouthful of stew.
The taste was better than she had imagined, and she squinted her eyes in satisfaction.
“This is so much better than the hospital in my previous life,” Lilith whispered to herself, leaning her face in her hands.
“Is it good?” Elena asked, seeing how focused she was on eating.
“Mhm,” Lilith nodded, taking another spoonful. “It’s delicious.”
Elena smiled and began eating her own portion in small, refined bites.
Kalman sat nearby, eating quickly but quietly, his eyes occasionally scanning outside the window to maintain his vigilance.
After finishing the meal, Lilith felt like a new person.
Although this body didn't feel hunger, it didn't mean she had abandoned her habit of eating.
Elena paid the bill, and the three of them left the inn to return to the carriage.
“I will drive,” Kalman suggested. “The Lady and Lady Lilith can sit inside the carriage.”
Elena nodded, and the two of them climbed into the carriage.
Kalman took the driver's seat.
The carriage slowly started moving.
Lilith pulled back the curtain, watching the village grow smaller behind them.
They would soon reach a human city. she planned to fulfill the wish from her past life—to travel the whole world, starting with the human realm.
The carriage traveled for about half a day.
Lilith was starting to feel a bit drowsy.
Just as her eyelids were about to close, the carriage suddenly stopped.
The inertia made her lean forward, and she snapped awake instantly.
Kalman’s lowered voice came from outside the carriage: “Lady Elena, Lady Lilith, something is happening outside. It looks like we’ve encountered bandits.”
“And judging by the aura they’re giving off, they are all Rank 2 warriors.”
Lilith and Elena exchanged a look and pulled back the curtains at the same time.
On the road ahead stood seven or eight men.
They all wore malicious grins, their eyes scanning the carriage up and down.
“Oho, this carriage looks pretty nice,” the leader, a one-eyed brute with a large blade over his shoulder, laughed. “How about the folks inside come down for a chat?”
Kalman’s hand was already on the hilt of the sword at his waist, but because the enemies were numerous and all Rank 2, there was no chance of winning a head-on fight.
Elena’s face turned slightly pale, but she took a deep breath. “I’ll have to trouble you, Lady Lilith.”
“Leave it to me. But do you have a weapon? Lend me one.” Lilith gave an OK sign.
Elena was stunned for a moment. “You want a weapon? But aren't you a mage?”
“I know a bit of swordsmanship as well,” Lilith lied without blinking.
Elena’s expression became somewhat strange. A high-level mage who knew the sword?
But she didn't ask further, simply pulling a longsword from her personal storage space and handing it to Lilith.
Lilith took the sword and jumped down from the carriage.
The bandits’ eyes went wide when they saw her.
“Boss, this chick is a beauty!” a tall, thin man whistled.
“More than a beauty, she’s top-tier,” another man with a fleshy face licked his lips. “If we take her back to be the boss’s concubine, he’ll definitely give us a huge reward, hahahaha!”
“Little lady, come with us, and we’ll make sure you’re well-fed and well-dressed.”
Lilith looked at them, a cold smile slowly curling onto her lips.
“Then let’s see if you have the strength for that.”
She gripped the hilt with both hands and raised the sword above her head.
Then, she poured magic into the blade.
The bandits finally realized something was wrong.
“Wait, that sword...”
“Get back! Everyone get back!”
But it was too late.
Lilith swung the sword downward toward the front.
The flash of the blade transformed into a dark red sword qi that slashed forward, instantly tearing the earth asunder!
The seven or eight bandits didn't even have time to scream before they vanished into the light of the blade.
The sword qi surged forward for over a thousand meters before finally dissipating.
Lilith stood where she was, the sword in her hand having already turned to ash.
She looked at the scene before her with a complicated expression.
Starting from where she stood, a massive trench had appeared in the ground.
She hadn't intended to cause such destruction, but as someone who didn't know any magic spells, she clearly couldn't control her magic output.
Inside the carriage, Elena pushed the door open and jumped down. She stared at the trench before her and the completely destroyed woodland, frozen in place.
She had heard that high-level mages were strong, but she never imagined they could be this powerful.
She had only heard of the might of high-level mages in stories or from the descriptions of her elders.
But hearing about it and seeing it with her own eyes were two different things.
The power of this single strike had surpassed her understanding of strength.
At this moment, Lilith was practically a humanoid calamity.
Kalman also climbed down from the driver's seat. His expression was steadier than Elena’s, but his hand holding the reins was trembling slightly.
The three of them stood by the carriage, staring at the trench in silence for a long time.
Finally, Lilith was the first to speak.
She looked down at her empty hands and muttered in a small voice:
“I’m sorry, I didn't mean to.”
Elena turned her head. “...It’s fine.”
Kalman silently returned to the driver's seat. Elena and Lilith got back into the carriage.
The carriage steered around the massive trench and set off on the road once more.
Elena wanted to speak several times, but the words died in her throat.
She stole a glance at Lilith, who was staring blankly out the window.
At this moment, Lilith had fallen into self-doubt. She didn't know what to do; she couldn't even control her own strength.
She even began to fear that she would cause an even greater disaster after reaching the human world.
