Chapter 59 · Volume 1

The Eighteen Yujing Styles

The next day, at Zhou Ziruo's call, Zhuang Xun controlled Bai Yujing to accompany her to the grand martial arts field.
When the instructors and deacons organizing the martial competition saw the two, they immediately set aside their work and gathered around to bow in greeting.
Zhuang Xun nodded slightly, looked at Instructor Huang in the crowd, and smiled. “Instructor, it has been many days since we last met.”
Huang Wei was overwhelmed by the favor. Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly paused.
“Senior... Senior Brother Bai.”
Huang Wei was twenty-four years old this year, belonging to the same generation as Bai Yujing.
Even though he had once been Bai Yujing's instructor, setting aside that status, he was still a disciple of the Linjia Courtyard. According to the rules of the Wanxing Martial Academy, disciples of the same generation had to address the Chief Disciple as “Senior Brother” when they met.
This slightly constrained “Senior Brother” inexplicably reminded Zhuang Xun of Runtu. He let out a silent laugh and said, “Instructor, you may address me as Yujing as you did before. Calling me ‘Senior Brother’ is far too formal.”
Hearing this, Huang Wei laughed heartily, the tension in his heart completely vanishing. However, he didn't dare to actually call him Yujing. After thinking for a moment, he said, “Ah, no, no, that won't do. Proper etiquette must be maintained. How about I take a liberty and call you Chief Disciple Bai?”
Zhuang Xun smiled slightly.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted two figures stealthily drawing near. It was Chen Jinzhu and Yu Wuyong.
However, he ignored them. After chatting briefly with Huang Wei and the Head Instructor, who had squeezed his way into the conversation, he made his way up to the high platform, surrounded by the crowd.
These instructors and deacons were not qualified to sit beside Bai Yujing, so they gathered around Huang Wei instead, complimenting him with a hint of envy in their voices.
Even the Head Instructor sat beside Huang Wei, his tone carrying a faint hint of favor, suggesting that he might pass his position down to him in the future.
Huang Wei was grinning from ear to ear the entire time. He felt incredibly grateful to his past self from half a year ago, who had risked getting scolded just to apply for the top monthly evaluation benefits for Bai Yujing in advance.
...
Below the high platform, Zhuang Xun controlled Yan Pingsheng as he went with the other nine disciples to draw numbers.
Whether it was good luck or bad, he drew number one, so he went straight onto the martial arts stage.
When he saw that his opponent was that nameless male disciple, he knew his luck was good; he could easily coast through this round.
As they exchanged bows, he saw the male disciple offer a flattering smile. He smiled back in response, then held back a bit as he fought him.
“Senior Brother, is that chubby Junior Brother your fellow townsman?”
On the high platform, Zhou Ziruo lightly patted Bai Yujing's arm and asked.
You didn't have to add the word “chubby”... Bai Yujing nodded slightly.
“Oh?” Zhou Ziruo teased. “I heard that Junior Brother Yan wants to come to my Posuo Courtyard instead of going to your Formless Courtyard, Senior Brother.”
“Everyone has their own choices. I am glad that he has his own thoughts.”
Zhou Ziruo nodded thoughtfully, tilting her head with a smile. “How about you owe me a favor, Senior Brother, and I'll help you look after Junior Brother Yan?”
Bai Yujing remained silent.
“Senior Brother, since you aren't speaking, I'll take that as agreement. Yes, it's a deal then.”
Just wait and see if I actually acknowledge it when the time comes... Looking through Bai Yujing's perspective at Yan Pingsheng below, who looked like a roly-poly toy while executing the Thousand-Jin Fall, Zhuang Xun couldn't help but feel amused.
He really needs to lose weight. Otherwise, he looks so silly, like a Tiger tank.
Ultimately, Yan Pingsheng easily pushed his opponent off the martial arts stage, securing victory and advancing to the winners' bracket.
The next to take the stage was Chen Jinzhu.
She glanced at Bai Yujing on the high platform from time to time, her heart filled with immense excitement.
Ah! I can finally show off my skills in front of Senior Brother Bai! I must perform well and make Senior Brother Bai look at me in a whole new... light...
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud...
The incredibly heavy footsteps caused the ground to shake slightly.
Watching the person stepping onto the stage, Chen Jinzhu's clenched fists slowly loosened, and the smile on her face gradually faded.
“Are you anticipating the arrival of Little Yujing? I, too, look forward to my own arrival. In that case, let us battle!” Yu Wuyong pursed his lips, sniffed, glared, and frowned as he slowly stepped onto the stage.
He stepped with immense force with every stride, believing it made him appear incredibly powerful.
Upon reaching the center of the martial arts stage, he first swept a quick glance at Bai Yujing on the high platform, then slowly lowered his body, posing as if drawing an imaginary blade.
“Eighteen—Yujing—”
“Exchange martial artist bows first!” the deacon on the side interrupted.
“Oh.” Yu Wuyong stood up and obediently performed a bow.
Senior Brother Bai always maintains his poise, no matter the situation.
Once the etiquette was finished, he lowered his body again and growled, “Eighteen Yujing Styles... Yujing Flash!”
“Audacious fool! To dare attempt a sneak attack right in front of Senior Brother Bai! You have angered Little Yujing! Take this!”
“Yujing Slash! Yujing Thrust! Yujing Chop! Yujing Sweep! Yujing Chain Slash! Yujing Flying Kick!”
...
“Yujing Slash, Yujing Thrust, Yujing Chop, Yujing Sweep, Yujing Chain Slash, Yujing Flying Kick... Senior Brother, this Junior Brother Yu's moves actually have some logic to them. What do you think... Pfft, hahahaha! I'm sorry, Senior Brother, I couldn't hold it in, hahahaha!”
Zhuang Xun watched Zhou Ziruo, who was shaking with laughter, out of the corner of his eye, his face completely expressionless.
What do I think? I want to turn both of you into red bean paste... Wait, actually, this Little Yujing's Eighteen Styles really have something to them.
He felt a slight spark of interest and watched the stage below more closely.
By now, Yu Wuyong had displayed all of the Eighteen Yujing Styles. Showing absolutely no mercy, he kicked Chen Jinzhu off the martial arts stage.
“Ah!” Chen Jinzhu crashed onto the dirt ground and rolled several times. She scrambled up in a disheveled state, her reddened eyes glaring at Yu Wuyong.
“Just you wait!” she spat through gritted teeth, then ran off while wiping away her tears.
“Fifth Young Lady!” Behind her, Chen Qing'er chased after her anxiously.
Senior Brother Bai never cares about the opponents he defeats, and neither does Little Yujing.
Yu Wuyong paid absolutely no heed to Chen Jinzhu's threat. He raised his head with an air of effortless composure, waiting for the deacon to announce his victory.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Bai Yujing looking at him. Overjoyed, a sudden inspiration struck him, and he spoke aloud, “Wuyong is lacking in talent and has made a fool of himself before everyone.”
He then looked at the deacon behind him and said calmly, “The battle with Chen Jinzhu has brought much harvest to me, Wuyong. I must trouble you, Deacon, to pass on a message: I, Wuyong, look forward to our next duel.”
The deacon, who was just about to announce Yu Wuyong's victory: ?
...
“Hahaha! Senior Brother, what he said is exactly what you said at my elder brother's coming-of-age ceremony!”
With amusement dancing in her eyes, Zhou Ziruo watched Yu Wuyong below with great interest.
Beside her, Zhuang Xun's eyes twitched.
Is this some kind of public execution of cringe for me?
Fine, fine, I yield to you. I admit that you, Little Yujing, take first place in the ‘Imitating Bai Yujing’ contest. I, Zhuang Xun, willingly accept second.
Zhou Ziruo said deliberately, “Sigh, I really want to learn the Eighteen Yujing Styles from that Junior Brother Yu.”
Having said that, she bent down with a sly look in her eyes, peering up at Bai Yujing's expression. “Hmm? Senior Brother?”
“If you like them, you can have Junior Brother Yu rename them after you.”
“There's no need for that. A blessing like that is something this junior sister cannot afford to enjoy. I'll leave it to you instead, Senior Brother.”
