Truly bizarre words.
It seemed Kiru was not only a cuckold with a dragon fetish, but also likely a massive pervert.
He was probably just pent up.
Shaking his head, Bai Xiaodu decided not to overthink it.
But very quickly, what happened next made his eyes widen in disbelief, and he couldn't help but curse out loud.
“Holy shit!”
Kiru still had a smug, sinister grin on his face. He was clearly already fantasizing about using his centuries of combat experience to slaughter everyone in sight while controlling the remnant sword.
However, the very instant his spinning body was about to make contact with the broken sword, he suddenly felt an immense resistance, as if two like poles of a magnet were repelling each other. He couldn't move forward even a single millimeter.
Kiru looked utterly astonished.
“What's going on? Does this enchantment actually prevent possession?”
“Heh, break! Your master died countless years ago, and you still dare to block me?”
Refusing to believe it, Kiru muttered another string of obscure, complex incantations, and a brilliant red light instantly erupted from his body.
Then, without a moment's hesitation, he pressed his hands together like a blade and thrust forward swiftly and fiercely toward the remnant sword!
Buzz...
The full-force charge struck nothing but empty air. Kiru froze, and Bai Xiaodu was equally stunned.
The remnant sword had actually dodged on its own!
But just as the two of them were completely bewildered, the remnant sword actually tilted upward of its own accord, as if gripped by an invisible hand, slashing viciously toward Kiru's head!
“Watch out!” Bai Xiaodu warned loudly.
Kiru's reactions were also swift. With a quick twist, he vanished.
The remnant sword's attack struck empty air, just as his own had!
Bai Xiaodu focused his gaze and saw Kiru's figure materialize again in the distance.
His face was a mask of shock and suspicion as he remained on high alert against another attack from the remnant sword.
“Did the Human Empire's enchanting technology advance again?”
“No, that's not right. According to Bai Xiaodu, this remnant sword is an old relic from my own era...”
Suddenly, Kiru seemed to realize a possibility.
He turned his head, his face flushing red with anger, and cursed at Bai Xiaodu.
“What the actual fuck, fox-kin! If you're going to give me a possession vessel, give me a fucking good one!”
Bai Xiaodu quickly scratched his head.
Although he realized it seemed to be his fault, he had been completely in the dark too!
“This is a good one! Didn't you say this was a high-grade weapon that only Commander-level figures of the Empire were qualified to carry?”
“The Mage Emperor was still around back then, right?”
“This thing was endorsed by the Mage Emperor himself!”
Hearing Bai Xiaodu's explanation, Kiru decided to believe for now that he hadn't tried to harm him on purpose.
Suppressing his anger, he began to explain patiently.
“It's still alive.”
“What's still alive?”
“I mean there's a soul still alive inside the remnant sword. I'm not sure if it's the original owner's, but either way, it's incredibly fierce and not to be trifled with.”
Hearing this, Bai Xiaodu understood.
It was almost certainly Kalugar's.
That guy was actually still alive too?
Wasn't he just a common soldier in the background of that earlier Secret Realm? How did he end up becoming a Commander in the end?
Bai Xiaodu tried to recall the remnant sword.
The sword didn't put up a fight, allowing itself to be held in his hand once more like an ordinary object.
So, it had only hissed because Kiru carried the scent of the dragon race?
After a brief moment of thought, Bai Xiaodu tried calling his name in a low voice.
“Kalugar?”
The remnant sword did not respond.
Just then, Kiru slowly floated over to his side, but before he could speak, the shortsword hummed again, scaring him into immediately retreating several meters, his face filled with wariness.
“The soul fluctuations aren't very strong. It seems to be slumbering inside the remnant sword.”
“But still, did this guy hate dragons this much when he was alive?”
“He's already half-dead, clinging to life inside a weapon, yet he still didn't forget to attack me. Has this behavior been etched into his subconscious?”
Bai Xiaodu didn't reply. After calming the sword down, he put it away.
He also rejected Kiru's suggestion to find a powerful necromancer to obliterate the soul inside the remnant sword.
Bai Xiaodu was no idealist; his experiences across two lifetimes had made him highly pragmatic.
But when the sky fell, someone tall had to hold it up, and Kalugar was clearly the type of person who would abandon everything to charge to the front lines.
Bai Xiaodu didn't understand it, but he respected it.
Not to mention, the shortsword had unconsciously saved his life before.
Looking at the somewhat disgruntled Kiru, Bai Xiaodu silently pulled out the 【True Dragon Blood Orb】.
He offered a sheepish grin.
“Um... this, why don't you try going inside?”
The displeasure on Kiru's face instantly froze.
“If my eyes aren't playing tricks on me... is this a Dragon-Devouring Orb? Or at least something similar. Bai Xiaodu, are you serious?”
Bai Xiaodu let out a hollow laugh.
“Aha, of course I'm joking. Look at you.”
“But this really is the only Wonder I have on hand. How about you just make do with it?”
Kiru: “...”
Kiru frowned, realizing that things were not as simple as they seemed.
Nevertheless, he still made his choice.
To Bai Xiaodu's surprise, Kiru reluctantly agreed.
“I am half-dragon and half-human, and my soul is the same. So possessing this shouldn't be a problem. Let me try.”
...
It actually succeeded.
Shaking the orb in his right hand, he could faintly see Kiru's face, looking rather disgusted by his movements.
Finding it amusing, Bai Xiaodu brought his eye closer.
Seeing the massive, wine-red eye that almost filled his entire field of vision, Kiru slapped his forehead.
“Enough. Don't act like some uncultured country bumpkin.”
“If your performance hadn't been so mind-blowingly absurd, I might not have even been willing to leave.”
“By the way, there are people from 【Autocracy】 outside the door, right?”
Bai Xiaodu nodded.
“Yes.”
Kiru's expression grew serious.
“I have a way to conceal my aura. Put the orb away safely.”
“Also, let me remind you: I have the locations of quite a few good things locked in my head. You know, treasures are like fine wine—the older they are, the richer they taste.”
“If you plan on turning them in, then you'll have no part in any of them.”
“Many Secret Realms only allow solo exploration. Eating the whole meal yourself versus eating someone else's leftovers—I believe you can make the right choice.”
“Don't worry about the Secret Realm. Souls aren't supposed to exist inside them in the first place. It will continue to function normally.”
Bai Xiaodu indicated that he understood completely, and Kiru's figure quietly faded away within the blood orb.
It was finally over.
Director-General Shen was still waiting for him. He had lingered inside for quite a while, so he would have to think of an excuse to explain it later.
Bai Xiaodu controlled the blood orb, swept up the massive pile of minced meat and body tissues from the ground, and stored them inside.
The orb glowed faintly.
The silver figure gradually vanished into the door of flowing fire.
