Chapter 62 · Volume 1

Xiaobai Triumphant

“On January 29th at 7:12:39 PM, a shipment of spell rune perception potion weighing 1,200 kilograms was escorted by the No. II Spaceship Fleet of the Pingshan District Federal Transportation Bureau, destination: Tianhuo City, Beta-231 war front.”
“On February 1st at 2:15:10 AM, a shipment of fire-element magic plant growth powder potion weighing 3,000 kilograms was escorted by the No. VI Spaceship Fleet of the Pingshan District Federal Transportation Bureau, destination: Tianhuo City, Beta-231 war front.”
“On February 13th at 8:11:36 AM, a shipment weighing 2,200 kilograms of...”
Bai Xiaodu read out one entry after another, his voice growing louder and louder.
It grew so loud that the Deputy Chief's face instantly turned deathly pale. He spun around, slowly turning back, his legs trembling uncontrollably the entire time.
These potions immediately jogged his memory.
The tasks his superior had assigned him a few days ago were precisely to escort these potions. Not only the names, but even the quantities matched perfectly.
Although his boss hadn't specified the exact location, he had taken a brief glance and only knew they were being shipped to some very ordinary, distant planets.
Since this was standard procedure for his boss, he had shipped out all the goods to curry favor with his superior.
But now, hearing Bai Xiaodu read it aloud, he suddenly remembered and felt cold sweat drenching his back.
The Deputy Chief suddenly realized.
He was fucking set up!
Even if his responsibility was only the short distance from the origin planet to a transit station, he was still a one hundred percent accomplice. There was absolutely no escaping it.
This wasn't the first time his boss had led them to privately use the fleet to transport goods; their original intention was merely to make some extra cash.
Who would have thought they were doing something that could get their heads chopped off!
For a federal public servant to knowingly break the law, the punishment was doubly severe!
“Stop reading! Please, stop reading!”
Bai Xiaodu raised an eyebrow, completely ignoring him, and suddenly raised his voice even higher.
He even went out of his way to activate Gust, projecting his words so clearly that everyone on the entire floor could hear them without missing a single syllable.
The Deputy Chief's scalp went numb.
In his desperation, he could no longer care about the dignity of his status. With a thud, he actually fell to his knees on the ground!
To hell with his pride! What face was more important than his own head?
With tears and snot streaming down his face, he wailed miserably.
“I was wrong! I was really wrong!”
“President Xin, I only came here because I was ordered to by my superiors! I'm just a messenger, I don't know anything! Really, there's no need for you to hold this against me!”
“I beg of you, please make him stop reading! If he keeps reading, people will really gather to listen! If even a whisper of this leaks out, I'm a dead man! Please show some mercy!”
Bai Xiaodu raised an eyebrow.
Seeing that Xin Hai'an looked as though she had thoroughly vented her anger, her hand gestured downward, indicating he could stop.
Only then did he finally shut his mouth, stopping his reading of the ledger. At the very end, he slowly added:
“You don't realize you're wrong; you just realize you're about to die.”
“Yes, yes! Everything you say is right!”
Bai Xiaodu stared intently at his face and immediately pressed further.
“Explain everything about how you received the report and came here to investigate. Most importantly, who is backing you and maliciously framing the Crimson Blood Group?”
The middle-aged man's face instantly twisted in a struggle, carrying a hint of terror.
Bai Xiaodu immediately began reading aloud again.
“On March 11th—”
“Wait! Wait! I remember, I remember everything! I'll speak right now!”
He looked like he was about to burst into tears from fright.
“It's Liu Yide, the District Chief of Pingshan District! He personally approached me and said this matter wasn't suitable for someone of the bureau chief level to handle, so he could only entrust it to me!”
“And then? Make it clear, what did he want you to do?”
“He wanted me to take the report to Xin Hai'an, who is currently staying here, and use it to threaten her into handing over money and shares of the Crimson Blood Group. The shares weren't the main focus—they were just to apply pressure—but the money had to be a massive amount of cash! The more, the better!”
“That's all I know! I was just a messenger! Think about it, he's the District Chief, my direct superior! How could I possibly refuse? I'm a victim too, I was forced into this!”
“Forced my foot.”
Seeing that the man was about to hug his leg and cry without even wiping his snot and tears, Bai Xiaodu swiftly jumped back. Seeing him crawl forward again, he simply kicked him away.
“You had a perfectly clear conscience when you were doing bad things, but the moment you get caught, you claim you were forced. Why didn't you say that when you were slamming your hand on the desk and shouting?”
“I was wrong...”
“Since you know you're wrong, scram! Are you waiting for a dinner invitation? Oh, and don't forget to tell the current Chief of the Pingshan District Transportation Bureau about this. I have some business with him later. If you dare to make things up, you can look forward to an all-you-can-eat buffet at the firing range.”
The middle-aged man grabbed his documents. As he left, he kept bowing and thanking Bai Xiaodu for sparing his life.
He even tripped at the doorway, but that didn't stop him from scrambling and crawling away in a mad rush.
It was as if this place were some kind of demon's lair, where staying even a moment longer would result in his soul being torn to shreds!
The noisy atmosphere instantly fell silent. Bai Xiaodu let out a sigh and waved his hand at Xin Hai'an.
A smug, triumphant look quickly appeared on his adorable face.
“Mission accomplished.”
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Years of rationality and calculation usually kept Xin Hai'an looking cold, aloof, and unapproachable.
But after watching this farce with great interest, a rare smile appeared on her face.
She leaned back in her chair. Though her posture was relaxed, it unreservedly highlighted the perfect curves of her body.
Looking at Bai Xiaodu standing there with his hands on his hips, Xin Hai'an gently tapped her red lips with her fingertip.
“Your efficiency is even faster than I imagined, and the quality is even higher. It's just that your current look... is a bit like a smug little villain.”
“Sister Xin Hai'an, how can you call me a smug little villain?”
Bai Xiaodu rubbed his chin and held up a finger.
“If you say 'Xiaobai triumphant,' it sounds much better.”
Xin Hai'an bit her lower lip hard to keep from laughing out loud.
Even so, the constant rise and fall of her white shirt's collar betrayed her amusement.
Resting her head on one hand, she sized Bai Xiaodu up in detail once more.
The more she looked, the more satisfied she became, and the more adorable he seemed.
This little white fox was incredibly capable.
Furthermore, his contribution this time was truly massive. How should she reward him to make him satisfied?
As she pondered this, Xin Hai'an maintained her alluring posture, slumped in her office chair.
She gently clapped her hands at Bai Xiaodu.
Her voice carried none of the cold distance from their first meeting; instead, it was filled with a warmth that practically enveloped him.
Xin Hai'an parted her red lips, gently exhaling a tempting, orchid-like fragrance.
“Here, come over.”
