Due to the excellent physical constitution of a Warrior Apprentice, most of this fiery version of Freezing Ray was blocked by Sothus's body.
The aftershock engulfed his closest subordinate in flames, while the others suffered varying degrees of burns.
Seeing this scene, Jedoli's breathing grew a bit ragged.
Is this fucking guy a Mage Apprentice?
How the hell can anyone call this guy a Mage Apprentice?!
Does this guy have no wind-up or recovery animations? How is he chaining his spells so quickly?
There was absolutely nothing wrong with Sothus's approach. Even if Jedoli had gone in himself, he might not have done any better.
And yet, Sothus was still instantly killed.
Hiding behind a pillar, Jedoli rubbed his temples as he desperately racked his brain for a countermeasure.
He quickly dismissed the idea of an accomplice. The spell intensity was too consistent for it to be two different people.
More likely, the opponent realized he was outmatched.
And so, he chose to unleash some kind of costly secret technique.
Such secret techniques typically had one major drawback—they were always followed by a period of severe weakness.
At this thought, Jedoli's eyes lit up.
Yes, that must be it!
Otherwise, how else could he cast ray spells in such rapid succession?
It defied all common sense. As far as he knew, only a true Transcendent could pull off such a feat.
As for the possibility of Bai Xiaodu being a true Transcendent, Jedoli immediately dismissed it.
What a joke. If he were actually at that rank, would he even need to engage in this back-and-forth struggle?
He would have just instantly wiped them all out.
Forcing himself to calm down, Jedoli recalled the very first time Bai Xiaodu had fired a ray.
It had been three-colored.
Since he had set a timer on the piano, Bai Xiaodu couldn't have known beforehand and must have unleashed his full power.
Which meant...
There was only one truth!
Bai Xiaodu had used an extremely costly secret technique to split his ray into three.
He could either fire them all at once or discharge them separately.
Jedoli looked back at the messy pile of furniture. He had already recognized the spell hovering above it—it was 【Mage Hand】.
The lingering, fluctuating mana ripples around it only confirmed his theory.
Jedoli's eyes darted around.
He had to admit, this guy was indeed a formidable opponent.
There was no mention of this spell in the intel he had recently gathered.
This meant he had learned 【Mage Hand】 in a very short amount of time and was even able to use it as a conduit to cast another spell.
But things had already reached a point of no return.
No matter what, leaving such a genius alive would only guarantee a future nightmare.
He had to die!
Gnashing his teeth, a look of grim determination appeared on Jedoli's face.
He quickly bit his finger, drawing several drops of blood. With a swift flick of his wrist, the droplets scattered and flew toward the surviving members of the Jackal Gang.
With their boss dead and the enemy defying all logic by casting spells in rapid succession, the gang's morale had utterly collapsed.
Some had even thrown down their gear and were running for the exit without looking back.
However, as the blood droplets splashed onto them, their fleeing figures suddenly froze.
Then, as if receiving an absolute command, their bodies were forcibly turned around.
Terrified expressions washed over their faces, mixed with a dazed confusion from not knowing what was happening to them.
As Jedoli muttered an obscure, cryptic incantation, the remaining Jackal Gang members uncontrollably picked up their weapons.
Under their own despairing gazes, they marched step by step toward Bai Xiaodu's hiding spot.
More precisely, they were heading straight for the active spellcasting point!
At this point, everyone realized they were being used as meat shields.
Bitter curses erupted from their mouths.
“Jedoli, you goddamn vampire! You'll die a horrible death!”
“You're too fucking chicken to fight yourself, so you're sending us to die! Even as a ghost, I won't let you off!”
Listening to the curses ringing in his ears, Jedoli merely cold-snorted.
“The Federation has always been about survival of the fittest. You came here with me in pursuit of benefits and profit,” Jedoli sneered. “Did I force you to come? Did I hold a gun to your heads and make you follow me to kill Bai Xiaodu? You brought this on yourselves! How can you expect to gain anything without taking risks? None of this is my fault! Not at all!”
Boom!!!
An arc of electricity erupted, illuminating the entire hall as bright as day. It tore through the air, unleashing a piercing, deafening crackle.
Obviously, Bai Xiaodu felt no obligation to show mercy to anyone.
He felt no hesitation as he channeled his spell once more.
They were just turning on each other; he was more than happy to watch the show.
Like the two rays before it, the despair-inducing lightning swept forward like a colossal blade.
The meat shields forcibly controlled by Jedoli let out muffled groans before instantly turning into charred carbon.
Yet, these calcified remains of flesh and bone couldn't withstand the sheer kinetic force, instantly disintegrating into plumes of rising gray ash.
Now is the time!!!
His heart pounding so hard it felt like it would leap out of his chest, Jedoli sprinted forward like the wind, unleashing the absolute limit of his speed.
The mana ripples noticeably ceased. It looked like Bai Xiaodu was finally exhausted.
He was out of tricks!
Reconfirming this, Jedoli drew the short dagger from his waist and leapt high into the air!
His pale, handsome face twisted into a hideous grimace, exposing his true, monstrous nature.
His jagged, razor-sharp fangs looked like those of a wild beast.
“Just lay down and die for me!!!”
Hum!
The instant Jedoli leapt.
Three circular spell runes of different colors lit up in midair.
Dim, violet-green, and pale blue.
The three-colored light flashed simultaneously, abruptly illuminating Jedoli's figure—
—and his completely dumbfounded face!
