“Honk!!! Honk—”
The rapid, approaching blare of a horn shattered the silence of the night as a sixteen-wheeled heavy semi-trailer sped forward like a flash of bright red lightning.
Roaring thunderously, it declared its fury.
To ensure maximum speed, Bai Xiaodu had specifically chosen an empty truck.
Even so, its weight reached a terrifying fifteen tons. Driven by the kinetic energy of a full-speed charge, the front of the truck would deliver a staggering four thousand two hundred tons of instantaneous crushing force.
The engine roared, and the earth trembled.
Meanwhile, everyone lying in ambush for Bai Xiaodu was utterly dumbfounded.
“What's going on?!”
Xitus was the most terrified of all. He realized with a sinking feeling of dread that this heavy semi-trailer seemed to have eyes, steering straight toward him.
Two blinding beams of light shone directly at him, leaving him so dazed he couldn't even tell where he was. He could only spin around in a desperate, frantic panic as the terrifying sound of rushing air grew louder and louder.
The next second.
Crash!
There was no struggle, no scream. He was treated as nothing more than a piece of raw meat, violently rammed by fifteen tons of steel traveling at twenty-eight meters per second.
Flesh disintegrated and bones shattered. A conspicuous blossom of blood erupted in the air as his broken body, looking like a doll torn apart by an angry little girl, was sent flying in all directions.
His headless torso, barely retaining any shape, rolled several times on the ground before coming to a complete, silent halt as crimson liquid slowly seeped out.
Splat, splat.
Severed limbs rained down from the sky. By some horrible stroke of luck, a bloody severed finger landed right inside the open mouth of a lackey who was staring with his mouth wide open, causing him to desperately claw at his throat and gag.
The boss of the Jackal Gang's West Sector, who had once run rampant in Pingshan District, had died just like a stray dog run over on the side of the road.
And he wasn't the only one; several unfortunate lackeys failed to escape the heavy semi-trailer's rampage as well, quickly following him to the grave.
But this was far from over.
Recalling the positions of the enemy gunmen in his mind, Bai Xiaodu slightly raised his hand.
A brilliant ray emitting an extreme chill was effortlessly fired.
Whoosh!
The sound of condensed energy sweeping through the air rang out. Bai Xiaodu spared no one, targeting the green belt along with anyone hiding inside it.
If he heard pleas for mercy coming from a certain spot as he swept the area, he would pay them extra attention, intentionally increasing the intensity of his spell.
With Xitus, their only real fighter, dead right off the bat, the positions of all the gunmen were completely exposed.
It was a total, one-sided massacre.
Since he had started, he might as well finish it.
There really were a lot of people who had come—at least thirty by his estimate.
These were all young, able-bodied men, the very backbone of the gang.
Once the gunmen were dead, the others had no way left to resist.
They could only hide in sheer frustration, only to be picked off with pinpoint accuracy by Freezing Ray.
The slaughter lasted for over ten minutes before finally coming to a halt. Midway through, Bai Xiaodu had no choice but to gulp down the bag of blue crystal powder mix raw to replenish his mana.
When people scattered, they would naturally run, and in the end, two or three survivors might indeed have slipped away.
However, Bai Xiaodu didn't have the energy left to hunt them down in the dark of the night.
He jumped down from the wall. His delicate face was as beautiful as ever, though half of it was now stained with Xitus's blood.
Panting heavily, his consecutive use of 【Gust】 and 【Freezing Ray】 had long since drained his mana completely.
He was now suffering from a severe mana backlash, his head buzzing painfully.
Seeing this, the truck driver quickly jumped down, wanting to support him, but Bai Xiaodu waved him off.
Leaning against the wall, blood slowly dripped down along the curve of his silver-white tail, drop by drop.
After resting for a long while, Bai Xiaodu finally recovered his strength.
The truck driver didn't dare move an inch. He just stood nearby, pursing his lips and watching him nervously.
Whether it was driving the truck or running people over, he had only been following orders.
The one who had caused this scene of corpses strewn everywhere and blood soaking the ground was Bai Xiaodu alone.
Leaning against the wall, Bai Xiaodu's figure looked slender, but his wine-red eyes remained breathtakingly beautiful.
“Don't worry, I'll report your contribution to the organization.”
He patted the truck driver heavily on the shoulder, then smoothly pulled the driver's phone out.
“Let me borrow this for a moment.”
More than twenty people with names, reputations, and families had died. Even if it was in self-defense, this would completely qualify as excessive force, likely carrying a death sentence under normal circumstances.
A life for a life—that was the rule of mortals against mortals.
Taking a life without having to pay for it with one's own—that was the privilege of transcendents against mortals.
Back when he was still a victim, Bai Xiaodu had absolutely detested this rule.
Now, after thoroughly taking his revenge on this crowd, he had fallen in love with this feeling of passing judgment and executing it directly without a trial.
A bunch of societal scum who dared to provoke a transcendent deserved to be crushed like ants!
Now, it was time to handle the aftermath.
Bai Xiaodu first dialed President Liu's number and briefly explained the situation.
On the other end, President Liu found it hard to believe.
Having learned only a single Proficient-level spell, he had managed to kill over twenty able-bodied men, multiple armed gunmen, and an equal-ranked transcendent?
What kind of monster was he?
Once he confirmed that Bai Xiaodu wasn't lying, President Liu's expression turned serious. He comforted Bai Xiaodu, telling him not to worry and that he would handle everything from here.
“Brother Xiaodu, I admire you. Don't be afraid. Pingshan District needs young people like you to uphold justice.”
The call ended. After a moment of hesitation, Bai Xiaodu slowly tapped the numbers, piecing together Director-General Shen's phone number.
She had told him that he could call her if anything happened.
More than twenty people had died all at once, and it had even followed her prediction. Bai Xiaodu wasn't sure if this counted as “something happening.”
But partly out of gratitude, and partly to flatter her by praising her brilliant foresight, he had to give her a call.
Ring, ring, ring...
The call went through. It seemed the number Director-General Shen had given him wasn't a public line, but indeed her private one.
Bai Xiaodu cleared his throat.
“I'm very sorry to bother you so late, Director-General Shen. This is Bai Xiaodu, the one whom you predicted would face a bloody disaster today.”
“I feel that you are a highly trustworthy and wise senior, so I took the liberty of calling to let you know what just happened.”
A calm, unhurried hum came from the other end of the line.
Quickly searching his mind for words of praise, Bai Xiaodu pursed his lips, preparing to flatter her to the high heavens.
However, his train of thought was abruptly cut off by her next words.
“I know. If you feel scared, you can come to me for comfort.”
Her voice was lukewarm, as if the deaths of so many people were nothing more than a trivial matter in her eyes.
“Remember to take a bath since you're dirty, or you'll get sick.”
“Also, you did well today. Keep it up.”
The call hung up, and Bai Xiaodu blinked in surprise.
This woman didn't seem like the type to praise others, making this feeling rather novel.
However, a faint, ominous premonition crept into his heart.
What did she mean by “you did well today, keep it up”?
Did that mean there would be more tomorrow?!
What a nightmare. Was he not even allowed to get a good night's sleep?
This was no joke. If waves of trouble kept coming like this, Bai Xiaodu would seriously have to consider moving.
Forget it, he would ask Director-General Shen about it properly tomorrow.
Although she didn't seem like a particularly good person, she was willing to share such crucial information, which could even be said to have saved his life.
Thinking about it, she probably wasn't a bad woman. Probably... right?
Director-General Shen's Affection had even gone up a bit, rising from 24 to 24.5.
What a strange person.
Shaking his head, Bai Xiaodu didn't dare sleep in his own home anyway.
He might as well accept President Liu's invitation and stay in the free suite at the Explorers Association.
As he prepared to drive away, Bai Xiaodu didn't forget to loot the battlefield.
Three handguns, seven magazines.
And...
Looking at a mangled corpse, a slight smile curled at the corners of Bai Xiaodu's lips.
It was likely where Xitus had died.
A white item was slowly floating there.
