Chapter 623 · Volume 1

This Deity is Going to Start Showing Off

A great river flowed across the sky, its waves washing away the smoke of war.
It was a colossal creature, treading upon a long river as it approached.
A million demons were shaken, several beast gods were horrified, and Bai Ze stood dazed.
"Ancestor?"
"This..."
Yao Xiqiao's dark brows furrowed, his white hair fluttering. He flicked his immortal sword and unleashed a strike. "Playing tricks. Flame Burst!"
The sword edge rippled, and fire sword intent erupted instantly.
Raging flames scorched the sky, surging toward the incoming behemoth.
The beast's eyes were full of disdain as it suddenly stomped its legs.
From the dark canopy, a deluge descended from the heavens, pouring down for thousands of miles and extinguishing the flames in an instant.
The collision of water and fire created a vast white mist that filled the Great Desolation. Steam surged, and muddy waves remained.
Having neutralized the sword's power so effortlessly, Yao Xiqiao became twice as cautious.
The Wendao Sword Sect disciples atop the high wall and the East Desolation beasts below all felt their hearts tremble.
"So strong!"
Even Bai Ze was shaken, his thoughts a chaotic mix of joy and sorrow.
Within the rising mist, Yao Xiqiao's sword edge met resistance for the first time. He shot backward, retreating from the battlefield to hover high in the sky.
From within the vast haze, the behemoth let out a long roar. Suddenly, a wild wind gusted, sweeping everything clear.
The long river had vanished, and the smoke of war was gone. The giant beast stood there, looking down upon heaven and earth with a cynical gaze. To it, the thousand-mile city before it was nothing more than a sandcastle that would crumble at a single touch.
Arrogant and untameable, it ignored all the gazes upon it and issued a blatant provocation: "Well, little thing? If you surrender now, I might spare your life."
"Who are you?" Yao Xiqiao couldn't help but ask.
"I do not hide my name or change my surname. I am the greatest, greatest, greatest Immortal King of the Era of Primal Chaos—the Water Qilin Venerable," it announced.
The demons were dazed.
Immortal King? What was that? A king among immortals.
Era of Primal Chaos? They had never heard of it.
As for the Water Qilin Venerable, they didn't recall such a beast god ever existing within their ranks. Furthermore, its strength was actually superior to Bai Ze's.
Reinforcements from the North Sea? Or...
God only knew.
The members of the Wendao Sword Sect felt the same; their intelligence reports mentioned no such figure in the East Desolation.
However, a few beast gods knew the truth.
This being was the existence suppressed by a mysterious power at the bottom of the Divine Moon Pool.
In the past, demon ancestors had tried to devour it to no avail. They had tried to rescue it, also to no avail. Later, it was revered as the Ancestor of the demon race—the most mysterious and powerful existence in the entire East Desolation.
However, very few people in Fanzhou knew of this. Aside from a few beast gods in the East Desolation, no one in the world was aware.
Today, it had actually awakened and charged out.
This left Bai Ze and the others unsure whether to be happy or afraid. An unknown and powerful entity was a massive threat to the Wendao Sword Sect, but it was the same for the East Desolation. It could not be controlled. It was unpredictable.
The corners of Yao Xiqiao's lips curled slightly. "Water Qilin... how interesting."
Where did this beast come from? He had a guess.
His Senior Brother had mentioned before that a behemoth slept beneath the Divine Moon Pool and must be guarded against.
In fact, the reason he had been left here to face the entire East Desolation was not just to counter the already crippled Bai Ze. The battle plan specifically accounted for the awakening of the unknown behemoth beneath the Divine Moon Pool.
And now, he had finally seen it.
A Qilin. He wondered how it compared to the Ink Qilin on the North Sea's Ancestral Island. Which was stronger? Whose bloodline was superior?
The Water Qilin asked, "Have you heard my story?"
Yao Xiqiao replied casually, "Never."
The Water Qilin sounded intrigued, its tone deep. "My story..."
It was just about to start when Yao Xiqiao ruthlessly interrupted.
"Shut your mouth. I don't want to hear it."
The Water Qilin was stunned at first, then displeased, and finally spat out three words.
"You are quite arrogant!"
"Heh," Yao Xiqiao gave a cold laugh.
The Water Qilin's giant eyes grew sharp. "You actually don't fear me?"
Yao Xiqiao was amused and mocked, "A mere spirit body that can't even take human form—why would I fear you?"
The Water Qilin also laughed.
It didn't deny Yao Xiqiao's words; this was indeed just a spirit body, and it lacked the ability to transform.
As for its main body, it was still suppressed beneath the Divine Moon Pool, bound by massive chains. If the Sovereign hadn't expended his spirit essence, even this spirit body wouldn't have been able to come out.
However, to suppress a tiny place like Fanzhou, a single spirit body was enough.
"If my true self were to appear, Fanzhou would be annihilated in an instant. Do you believe me?" it asked Yao Xiqiao.
Yao Xiqiao believed it in his heart. He remembered his Little Junior Brother mentioning that above the saints were the six stages of immortality.
Immortal Emperors were the sixth stage. Immortal Kings were the fifth stage. If what it said was true and it really was an Immortal King, destroying Fanzhou would indeed be a matter of a flick of a finger.
But it had said "if."
Even if it was an Immortal King, that was in the past. Fanzhou contained an Emperor's Tomb; the existence of a remnant Immortal King's spirit body seemed plausible.
He wouldn't deny that the fellow before him was strong. However, it definitely hadn't exceeded the realm of an immortal. It was still a fightable opponent.
He mocked ruthlessly, "You sure can talk. Your ego is bigger than that mouth of yours."
"Heh..."
The Water Qilin was speechless at his ignorance. The ignorant were fearless. If this man knew of its past glory, he would surely wet himself and kneel to beg for mercy.
At that moment, Bai Ze approached and bowed respectfully. "Ancestor."
The Water Qilin glanced sideways. "Who are you?"
"I am Bai Ze."
"Oh, never heard of you," the Water Qilin said lazily.
Bai Ze remained unfazed. "Why have you come?"
The Water Qilin swept a glance over him and snapped for no reason, "None of your damn business."
Bai Ze's eyes darkened, and he remained silent.
Was this good or bad? At this moment, it was harder than ever to tell.
The beast gods felt uneasy. One of them spoke up, bracing himself. "Ancestor, this youth is ignorant and doesn't recognize you. He dares to be disrespectful. Don't waste your breath on him; just wipe him out."
Another injured beast god chimed in, "Yes, Ancestor. Please lead your people, crush this city, dominate the world, and reclaim our race's former glory."
Many beast gods had a burning light in their eyes. The beast sovereign and beast emperor stage demons were also filled with longing.
They were different from Bai Ze. In the Water Qilin's appearance, they saw only the dawn of victory.
Whether it was short-sightedness or narrow-mindedness, they only cared about the present: could this city be broken? This concerned what they believed to be the rise and fall of the beast race and that ethereal, supreme glory.
The Water Qilin was displeased. "Are you teaching me how to do things?"
The beast gods were stunned, their expressions stiffening. Meeting the Water Qilin's gaze, they all bowed their heads. "We wouldn't dare!"
"A bunch of useless trash," the Water Qilin cursed without reservation, its disdain clear.
It warned, "Who is your ancestor? If you try to claim a relationship again, I'll destroy you first."
The demons' faces turned extremely unsightly.
Yao Xiqiao was also in a daze. What the hell? They weren't on the same side? This seemed even more interesting.
The beast gods turned their gazes to Bai Ze, their eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment.
Bai Ze said nothing, only shaking his head.
After the Water Qilin finished insulting both humans and demons, it returned to the main point. With a playful smirk and a flippant voice, it laughed sinisterly and said, "Alright, you bunch of trash can step back for a moment. This deity is going to start showing off..."
