A girl born with Yin Qi?
Along a narrow mountain path, the moss had withered and was covered in fallen yellow leaves. Seven or eight disciples were gathered together, their expressions anxious and at a loss for what to do.
When they saw Xu Xian arrive, their eyes lit up as if they had finally found a pillar of support.
"What happened?"
Xu Xian took the initiative to ask. As the Little Grand-Uncle, if he encountered trouble in the mountains, he would generally step in to manage it, regardless of the nature of the situation.
One disciple pushed through the crowd and pointed to a figure curled up on the ground, saying hurriedly, "Little Grand-Uncle, we don't know either. We just saw her sitting here, shivering uncontrollably. No matter how much we called, she didn't respond. When I accidentally touched her, the cold was bone-chilling. Please, take a look..."
Xu Xian looked over.
He saw a young girl dressed in a light-colored long dress sitting on the ground. Her arms were wrapped around her knees, her head buried against her chest, curled into a tight ball.
She was trembling incessantly, and faint murmurs could be heard from her, like someone trapped in a nightmare.
Though her face was hidden, Xu Xian recognized her instantly by her long white hair and the small green medicine bag at her waist.
It was Yao Xiaoxiao.
Xu Xian’s brow furrowed. He moved through the crowd, crouched down in front of her, and tried to call her name.
"Yao Xiaoxiao!"
"Yao Xiaoxiao..."
However, he received no response. Xu Xian reached out to touch her shoulder, intending to shake her awake, but the moment his skin made contact, it felt as if he had been pierced by a needle.
"Sss!"
The youth's brow instantly creased into a deep frown.
"Such powerful cold energy."
Xu Xian had been to the Far North and had lain upon ice stones formed from ten-thousand-year-old glacial frost, yet he had never been stung by cold in this manner before.
If he hadn't felt it himself, who would have thought that the cold energy leaking from a human body could make a nascent soul stage cultivator hesitate to touch them?
Recalling their first meeting, when he had accidentally touched Yao Xiaoxiao's palm, Xu Xian had been surprised then by how icy her hand was. He had originally thought it was just a matter of her constitution and hadn't given it much thought.
But seeing her state today, it was clearly no accident.
He activated his Pupil of Insight to peer into the truth.
Within her physical body, spiritual qi moved naturally, and her blood continued to circulate, though the flow was significantly slower than that of a normal person. He could be certain she was still alive.
"What exactly is going on?" Xu Xian muttered to himself.
The Little Book spirit, Shuer, appeared on his shoulder at some unknown moment, her gaze solemn. "It's not cold energy; it's Yin Qi."
Xu Xian was puzzled. "Yin Qi?"
Shuer said, "Yes, Master. Inside this little girl's body, there is a strand of Innate Yin Qi. She was born with it. It must have been suppressed by a forbidden technique before; otherwise, she wouldn't have lived this long."
Xu Xian felt this was somewhat absurd.
Yin Qi?
He wondered if it was the same kind of Yin Qi that had just flickered through his mind.
In all things of the world, there is the cycle of life and death. Yin and Yang correspond to death and life. There is a type of energy born from the river of reincarnation called Yin Qi.
To put it simply, it is death energy—the ultimate chill of the known universe.
It naturally counters all living spirits of the primary planes.
"She's going to die!" the Little Book spirit concluded.
Xu Xian pulled back his wandering thoughts and asked urgently, "Can she be saved?"
Shuer looked troubled.
"Can she or can't she?"
Shuer compromised, "She can be saved for a moment, but not for a lifetime."
Xu Xian didn't care about the long term right now. "How do I save her?"
"By consuming essence blood that is extremely Yang, unyielding, and overbearing. It can briefly suppress the cold and save her life."
Xu Xian was stunned upon hearing this. "Where am I supposed to get that?"
Shuer tilted her head and stared at the youth without saying a word.
"What are you looking at me for? I'm asking where to get it!"
Shuer pouted. "The answer is right in front of you!"
Xu Xian suddenly understood.
He controlled his qi to focus his mind. Ignoring the gazes of the crowd and enduring the burning sting of the Yin Qi, he lifted Yao Xiaoxiao's head.
The girl's face was as white as paper, her lips were purple, and her eyes were tightly shut. Her long eyelashes were covered in frost crystals.
With a thought, Xu Xian summoned Wait.
Wait hovered in the air and, with great reluctance, sliced open Xu Xian's wrist.
Hot blood began to flow steadily.
Xu Xian used his hand to force open Yao Xiaoxiao's stiff mouth and pressed his wrist against her lips.
The blood entered the girl's throat. The cold invaded the youth's body.
Xu Xian gritted his teeth hard.
The surrounding disciples were dumbfounded, whispering among themselves in confusion.
"That looks like Yao Xiaoxiao from the Elixir Hall, Elder Yao's descendant..."
"What is the Little Grand-Uncle doing?"
"Is the Little Grand-Uncle using his essence blood to sustain her life?"
"Just watching it looks painful!"
As Xu Xian's essence blood continued to pour into Yao Xiaoxiao's mouth, the girl, who had long lost consciousness, slowly began to respond.
She no longer passively swallowed his blood like a corpse; she began to suck it actively, even greedily. Like a starving infant, she desperately nursed the life-giving fluid.
Her hands reached out to grab Xu Xian's arm, gripping it tightly.
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
She swallowed in large gulps. With every movement of her throat, her complexion eased slightly. After about dozens of breaths, Yao Xiaoxiao’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her weak gaze first landed on Xu Xian, then dropped to his arm. Her swallowing and sucking stopped abruptly.
It was as if she were exercising extreme restraint.
Her eyes were dazed. Like a child who had done something wrong, she stammered, "Li... Little Grand-Uncle, I..."
Xu Xian exhaled a breath of turbid air. A strained smile tugged at his somewhat pale face as he grinned. "Don't worry, you won't die!"
Yao Xiaoxiao looked like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she only used the last of her strength to nod heavily.
With Yao Xiaoxiao awake, her body remained cold, but it was no longer as bone-chillingly aggressive as before.
Using his Pupil of Insight to check her internal state, Xu Xian saw that her blood flow had accelerated and her spiritual qi circulation had resumed. He finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He used his divine sense to stop the bleeding. The sword wound healed at a speed visible to the naked eye, though his entire arm throbbed with constant pain. The residual Yin Qi seemed to be acting up within his limb, but it was being slowly eradicated by his own hot blood.
Xu Xian didn't have time for anything else. He picked Yao Xiaoxiao up, hooked his finger to summon the jade gourd artifact that had fallen by the roadside, and leaped onto it.
He scanned the crowd and said calmly, "Everyone, disperse."
With those words, he carried Yao Xiaoxiao and headed straight for Falling Cloud Peak.
The disciples snapped back to their senses, hurriedly bowing to see him off before going their separate ways.
A short while later, Xu Xian landed at the Baicao Garden on Falling Cloud Peak.
This was the largest immortal abode in the Wendao Sect and also where the Elixir Hall's headquarters was located.
Within the vicinity of the Baicao Garden, thousands of acres of spirit herb fields were planted with immortal plants and spirit herbs. Consequently, there were always Elixir Hall disciples on duty to care for them. Seeing Xu Xian's arrival, the gatekeeping disciples were confused, and seeing Yao Xiaoxiao in his arms only added to their bewilderment.
"Little Grand-Uncle, what happened to Xiaoxiao?"
Xu Xian didn't waste any breath, speaking in a commanding tone, "Take me to see Elder Yao."
The disciple could see that something was wrong and didn't dare to delay. He said respectfully, "Little Grand-Uncle, please follow me!"
