Chapter 20 - Xi He Niu Zhou.
Su Qing didn't dwell on the matter of the white snake.
She felt she had merely happened to save a white snake.
And, on a whim, happened to give it the name Bai Suzhen.
It wasn't as if she had truly met the Bai Suzhen...
There was no need to worry too much about it.
After leaving the forest where she had met the white snake, Su Qing continued on for a long distance.
Until the weather turned considerably colder...
Su Qing finally stopped to find a cave and prepare for hibernation.
"Xi He Niu Zhou is still so far away..."
Su Qing coiled her body, flicking her tongue as she watched the withered yellow leaves outside the cave.
Xi He Niu Zhou was far... but so what?
For the sake of longevity, of attaining the Dao.
No matter how far, she had to go!
Besides, if she could become Sun Wukong's senior sister... that seemed like something worth bragging about.
Winter passed in a flash.
Nothing worth mentioning happened.
When spring arrived, Su Qing set out on her journey once more.
People say that in the mountains, one loses track of time, unaware of the years passing as the cold ends.
In truth, traveling was much the same...
Su Qing didn't know how many years she had traveled, how many times she had hibernated, nor how far she had truly gone...
She only knew that after so many years of travel.
She had finally reached the territory of Xi He Niu Zhou.
Having arrived in Xi He Niu Zhou.
Su Qing did not rush to find the woodcutter.
Instead, she first found a place to rest.
The years of travel had left even Su Qing feeling a bit weary.
Now that she was in Xi He Niu Zhou, there was no need to rush the rest.
A woodcutter leading a green ox... that would not be easy to find.
Xi He Niu Zhou was so vast... finding someone was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
So, being anxious was useless. Read at Novels Haven (novelshaven.com)
Everything depended on fate.
Perhaps when Li Shan Lao Mu had told her these things, she had also wanted her to understand that many things depend on fate?
But Su Qing didn't care; she had plenty of time.
Besides, the current Su Qing now had a few helpers.
Su Qing was coiled on a tree, basking in the sun.
A few little sparrows landed on her head, chirping incessantly.
They recounted the scenes they had witnessed on their flight.
These were the little sparrows Su Qing had met on her journey...
They were all little creatures whose spiritual intelligence had just begun to awaken.
Their minds were simple and their awareness nascent, like that of children.
Bored on her journey, Su Qing had casually coaxed them into becoming her helpers.
To scout the path for her and chat with her.
To alleviate the monotony of the journey.
Although these little ones weren't very intelligent and had poor talent... they might never achieve any significant cultivation in their entire lives.
But they had helped Su Qing a great deal.
It was thanks to these little ones scouting the way that she had made it this far.
They had helped Su Qing avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble.
Otherwise, Su Qing might not have been able to reach Xi He Niu Zhou so quickly!
Now, after Su Qing had arrived in Xi He Niu Zhou...
The role of these little ones was no longer as simple as just scouting.
They could now also help Su Qing search for the woodcutter with the green ox.
Although it might not increase efficiency by much...
It was still much better than her searching blindly alone.
"Little ones, go on and keep looking! If you can't find him, just come back and rest."
Su Qing flicked her tongue and said to the little sparrows.
The little sparrows, upon hearing this, obediently flew off.
They began their search, which was like looking for a needle in a haystack...
And so, the days repeated themselves.
Unknowingly, Su Qing had been searching for the woodcutter in Xi He Niu Zhou for a month.
But unfortunately... Read at Novels Haven (novelshaven.com)
Although Su Qing found several woodcutters, she did not see the one she was looking for.
The ones she saw were all just mortals.
Upon seeing Su Qing, they would flee in terror.
However, Su Qing was not discouraged.
She continued to search for the woodcutter with the little sparrows every day...
She hadn't found him yet, so perhaps fate just hadn't arrived.
When fate arrived... perhaps she would find him then.
The days passed one by one...
Su Qing couldn't remember how many days she had been searching.
She only knew that summer had passed, and the weather was gradually growing cooler.
The leaves on the mountains had all turned yellow and withered, and the wilderness was covered in them.
Today, the little sparrows flew back to Su Qing's side as usual, reporting the same result as always.
They still hadn't seen the woodcutter today.
"Don't worry, Big Green Snake, we'll definitely find him!"
"Yeah, yeah, we'll help you look. Don't be discouraged!"
"We'll go look for you again. We'll definitely find him!"
The little sparrows, seemingly worried that Su Qing was unhappy, chattered all at once to comfort her.
Su Qing flicked her tongue, finding these little ones somewhat amusing.
As if she would be so easily discouraged!
She had long prepared herself mentally for a long search with no leads.
"You can all rest assured. I won't be discouraged... If I can't find him this year, I'll just look again next year!"
"When fate arrives, we will naturally find him."
Su Qing slithered away, leaving the forest.
It was now autumn, and besides searching for the woodcutter, Su Qing also had to find a place to hibernate.
Seeing that Su Qing wasn't sad, the little sparrows happily continued to scout ahead.
They even said they were going to find "fate."
Su Qing found it funny but didn't say anything to them.
The little ones were not very intelligent, like children, which was quite interesting.
The sparrows flew ahead to scout the path, while Su Qing followed behind, thinking about where to hibernate.
Everything was quite harmonious... Read at Novels Haven (novelshaven.com)
Just like usual.
But it wasn't long before the little sparrow flying at the very front suddenly flew back to Su Qing's side in a panic.
"Big Green Snake, Big Green Snake! We found him, we found him!" the little sparrow said hurriedly. "In the forest ahead, I saw a woodcutter chopping a tree! He has a green ox with him! It must be the one you're looking for!"
Su Qing flicked her tongue and nodded slightly.
She wasn't excited... let alone thrilled.
Because she knew that this time, too, the little sparrows might have made a mistake.
But even knowing it could be a mistake, Su Qing still prepared to go take a look.
This was both to not let down the little sparrows' efforts and to not miss any possibility.
Even if it turned out to be a mistake in the end.
That was still better than doing nothing.
Following the sparrows, Su Qing soon arrived near the woodcutter.
She habitually glanced from a distance...
And saw nothing out of the ordinary.
After thinking for a moment, Su Qing spoke up and asked:
"Old sir, do you know how to get to the Cave of the Slanted Moon and Three Stars?"
