Chapter 71 · Volume 1

Transaction Completed

“Ever since you humans appeared, the Trading Post has seen many more items, but this thing has never shown up before. If I hadn't met you today,”
The mouse old man shook his head.
“I don't know how much longer I would have had to wait.”
Cheng Shuili smiled. Since the price was already settled, the next issue was the complimentary items. She steeled her nerves and asked, “How about this family business, sir?”
“Choose a weapon or a piece of body armor. Those large-scale weapons of mass destruction aren't really suitable for you. As compensation, like I said, I'll give you a few extra bullets.”
The mouse old man finished his sentence with a shake of his head, then suddenly looked up at Cheng Shuili and said earnestly, “We have a deal: 5000 game coins plus one item of your choice. No one here is allowed to keep raising the price; your word is your bond, as you humans say. You will honor it, right?”
Cheng Shuili felt an eerie sense of killing intent, a chill crawling up her spine.
Looking at this list alone, it was clear that this mouse old man was no easy mark.
Even if Cheng Shuili had the heart to rip him off, she lacked the strength to do so.
However, Cheng Shuili had never heard of anyone encountering such a fortuitous event at the Trading Post, and the system was notorious for its love of endless reversals.
Her trust in the system was infinitesimally close to zero.
This led her to suspect that it was all a scam until the money was actually in her hands—a scheme to swindle her out of her loot and then ruthlessly mock her intelligence.
Cheng Shuili kept a straight face and asked, “Sir, we are supposed to exchange money and goods simultaneously. You have so many gun models on this list. Can you actually provide whichever one I choose?”
The mouse old man gave a slight nod, signaling to Cheng Shuili with his eyes: Choose.
Since that was the case...
Then she would choose.
Cheng Shuili held the list and examined it carefully.
It listed seven categories: pistols, submachine guns, rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and protective gear.
There was also a section for demolition equipment, but since the mouse old man said she couldn't choose from there, Cheng Shuili didn't bother looking.
The people of the Dragon Country generally knew little about firearms, and Cheng Shuili was no exception; the last time she had touched a gun was back on the island.
Now, she had to make a choice.
Cheng Shuili frowned and was silent for a moment before asking, “Sir, if I choose different firearms, is there a difference in the number of bullets you provide?”
“Of course,” the mouse old man nodded. “A rifle comes with 60 rounds. A submachine gun will get you 30 extra, for a total of 90. Shotguns and sniper rifles have fewer, only 30 rounds. As for pistols... given such a great opportunity, would you really choose a pistol?”
Cheng Shuili flashed a standard smile and pointed at the list for the mouse old man to see, “I want this one, the assault rifle.”
Cheng Shuili chose an AK-12 assault rifle.
Considering the ammunition count, sniper rifles and shotguns were immediately ruled out. A pistol was out of the question.
The only real choice was between the submachine gun with 90 rounds and the rifle with 60.
The submachine gun might seem to offer 30 more rounds, but once you pull the trigger, bullets fly like water; you'd run out before you even saw where the enemy was.
This was based on her limited experience as a special forces soldier in the game.
It was not much...
But it should be somewhat useful.
The mouse old man seemed surprised by her choice of a rifle and specifically asked, “You don't like the submachine gun? I would have given you 30 extra rounds for it, you know.”
“Thank you for your kindness.”
Cheng Shuili gripped the Grease Monster Core and said earnestly, “Sir, we agreed on a simultaneous exchange. My goods are ready. What about the items you're trading?”
The mouse old man nodded, his gaze sweeping over the Grease Monster Core with a look of satisfaction.
Just as Cheng Shuili thought this old guy was about to reveal his true colors, he elegantly tipped his hat, raised his hands, and clapped twice lightly.
If Cheng Shuili hadn't been standing right in front of him, she wouldn't have heard the sound of the clapping at all.
But with those two extremely faint sounds, a large group of mouse beastmen suddenly appeared from nowhere, surrounding the mouse old man like stars around the moon.
Another mouse beastman, dressed in a suit and wearing a bow tie, stepped up to the mouse old man and bowed respectfully, “Father.”
Cheng Shuili was absolutely dumbfounded.
But even more astonishing things were yet to come.
“I have reached an agreement with this beautiful human lady.”
The mouse old man tilted his head slightly, his tone completely nonchalant, yet Cheng Shuili caught a hint of arrogance in it.
“Go get a rifle, this model, and bring 60 rounds with it. Oh, right,” the mouse old man glanced at the stunned Cheng Shuili and added calmly, “Add ten more. Consider it a gift from me to this discerning human lady.”
Hearing this, Cheng Shuili finally came back to her senses. She put on a smile again and said, “Thank you for your generosity, sir.”
“Don't mention it.”
At the mouse old man's command, his descendants quickly went into action. They stood shoulder to shoulder, using their hands raised above their heads to transport the gun Cheng Shuili had chosen from somewhere unknown.
Beside it were the bullets, packed in a box.
The mouse beastman closest to Cheng Shuili lifted his hands and tossed the heavy weapon into her arms.
Cheng Shuili caught it quickly to avoid hitting the mouse beastman in front of her.
Immediately after, the mouse old man swiped his hand in front of Cheng Shuili, and she instantly received a system notification: “5000 game coins received.”
With these 5000, the game coins in her possession reached 9367.
Cheng Shuili had to retract her previous statement; that wasn't just getting rich, it was the reasonable reward for hard work.
This encounter today was the true jackpot!
Cheng Shuili respectfully presented the Grease Monster Core to the mouse old man with both hands.
The mouse old man was a man of class; he examined it for a moment with a smirk to ensure Cheng Shuili wasn't playing any tricks, then placed it into his chest pocket.
He took off his hat again, held it in his hand, and gave a gentleman's bow.
“A very pleasant transaction, beautiful human. See you next time.”
Cheng Shuili mimicked his movements and bowed back, but as she looked up, she asked, “Sir, will you still be buying this stuff in the future?”
The mouse old man shook his head, “I've finished my collection. I won't be staying at the Trading Post anymore.”
Cheng Shuili nodded. She watched as the mouse beastmen suddenly split into a neat path, and then all of them watched as the miraculous beastman elder slowly departed, surrounded by his son and kin.
After the mouse old man's figure disappeared, the other mouse beastmen scattered like trees falling, each of them quickly disappearing into the distance.
