Chapter 44 · Volume 1

Fresh Slime Gel

Such ordinary and warm conversation instantly smoothed out Cheng Shuili's tightly coiled nerves.
The two did not chat for long.
Cheng Shuili did not stop, either.
The shopping cart was fast now, so the mileage should have been completed long ago, but today had been delayed by quite a bit: one Snow-Buried Ghoul, one bathroom, and one maniac driving a pickup truck.
Cheng Shuili had been a bit dejected at first, but once she considered that the problems of bathing and using the toilet were now both solved, she grew happy again.
These were the two most important things while traveling abroad!
Cheng Shuili stepped on the accelerator listlessly. She stopped whenever she saw a supply crate. Within an hour, she had opened three crates, though only one contained supplies. The items were quite practical: two rolls of toilet paper.
As for the other two crates, one contained a nest of small slimes. As soon as Cheng Shuili opened the lid, these monsters lunged right at her face.
Cheng Shuili was not who she used to be. She stayed a step ahead of these slimes and flattened them with a single blow from her baseball bat.
After the kill, Cheng Shuili did not get back on her cart to continue driving. Instead, she stood where she was, feeling puzzled.
Logically speaking, these monsters should all have loot drops.
The monsters she had killed previously—the grease monster dropped a core, and the Snow-Buried Ghoul dropped a silver bone.
Cheng Shuili used her utility knife to poke through the slime's remains for quite a while, yet she did not see a shadow of anything.
As she stood up to leave, she suddenly realized: it couldn't be that this pile of muck was the loot, could it?
The more Cheng Shuili thought about it, the more likely it seemed. She found a winter glove and pinched up the light green sludge. The next moment, a system popup appeared before her.
【Fresh Slime Gel】
【Description: An extremely rare work of art! Slime gel is common, but take note of this prefix! It is the freshest of the fresh! Producing this kind of slime gel requires very experienced technique and precise force, causing the slime to turn into gel at the very instant it loses its life!】
Cheng Shuili: "......"
Isn't it just beating it to death?
Why phrase it so loftily?
No, this wasn't what she wanted to see!
Cheng Shuili wanted to know what the loot from these monsters was actually used for. Although she kept one of everything, she didn't know the purpose of any of them.
She always had the feeling she was storing trash in her ring...
Thoughts aside, Cheng Shuili would certainly not throw these things away for no reason.
This was the first crate she had encountered this afternoon.
The second crate contained a nest of mice.
Those mice paid no attention to her, the person who had opened the supply crate, and were mercilessly gnawing on the last corner of a cake inside.
Cheng Shuili could see the cake crumbs scattered throughout the entire box.
The system even popped up a window to mock her.
【Unlucky survivor, you're late. You must open the crate earlier next time, oh.】
So punchable.
However, Cheng Shuili didn't believe its rhetoric for a second. She flipped the lid of the supply crate shut.
It was likely that this crate was just like that; no matter who opened it, they would see the same scene. The system's reminder was just a trick deliberately designed to mess with people's minds.
This dog system is truly...
Too evil.
Cheng Shuili was thinking about the experience with the first three crates when she suddenly noticed a black dot on the road ahead—something large, clearly a building.
She grew happy again. Whether it was a gas station, a trading post, a garbage station, or a beastman town, she could always manage to scrounge up some supplies!
Actually, she hoped more for a beastman town or a trading post, preferably one where another price bug would appear.
When people think too much, it's like making a wish.
Cheng Shuili laughed at herself for daydreaming and honestly drove the shopping cart over.
The scenery before her eyes gradually became clear. Layer upon layer of small houses were arranged neatly, their roofs blanketed in silver. Beneath the eaves hung lanterns of various colors, looking incredibly festive.
The main thoroughfares were packed with beastmen sporting various animal heads. The bustling, noisy sounds could be heard even from here.
It was obvious.
It was a beastman town.
Her dream had come true.
Cheng Shuili noticed a fork in the road appearing on the main thoroughfare. She stepped on the brake at the intersection, and the shopping cart slid a short distance before coming to a steady stop.
She first tidied up her polar cold-proof suit and confirmed her utility knife was still at her waist before pushing the door open to get out.
The trading post didn't allow weapons to be carried inside, but the beastman town shouldn't have so many rules, right?
Whether it was allowed or not, she had to try.
This place was completely different from the trading post.
The fork in the road led straight to the main thoroughfare, and there were no beastmen guarding the entrance.
Cheng Shuili recalled that Glory Shines on Blue Star had said before that he didn't know how to enter. She fell silent for a moment. Could it be that this fork in the road was only generated because she possessed an employee ID?
The solid feeling of her feet touching the ground again gave Cheng Shuili a sense of relief.
She closed the shopping cart door properly, walked around the vehicle once to make sure nothing was left behind, and then turned to walk toward the beastman town.
She left footprints on the snow-covered fork, which stretched all the way to the very center of the beastman town.
This place was almost no different from the cities Cheng Shuili had lived in during her previous life.
Beauty salons, hair salons, 4S dealerships, various snack shops, large shopping malls, clothing stores... standing where she was, she could even see a glowing sign across the street that read "Town Central Hospital."
It was practically fully equipped.
Cheng Shuili hadn't decided where to go first when she was approached by two beastmen wearing police uniforms.
"Humans aren't welcome here. If you leave now, we can pretend we didn't see you."
The bear-headed beastman spoke in a muffled voice, sounding a bit fierce.
"Watch your tone, Xiong Gu!" The wolf-headed beastman was clearly gentler. After scolding his companion, he gave Cheng Shuili a professional, formulaic smile and said politely, "Hello. We don't welcome humans without documentation here. Our task is to drive away any humans who wander in by mistake within three minutes."
The wolf-headed beastman smiled warmly, yet Cheng Shuili heard the underlying threat.
"You wouldn't want to make things difficult for us, would you?"
Cheng Shuili nodded, took the employee ID out from the Abyss Ring, and handed it to the wolf-headed beastman with one hand.
"I have documentation."
Cheng Shuili was unhurried, and her posture as she handed over the ID was elegant and composed.
The wolf-headed beastman and Xiong Gu exchanged a glance. For some reason, neither of the beastmen took the ID from Cheng Shuili.
Finally, it was the wolf-headed beastman who spoke: "It's not very convenient for us to check this. If your ID is valid, you need to go to our police station first to obtain a certificate before you can move around inside the beastman town."
Cheng Shuili nodded again.
It wasn't because she was easygoing and willing to follow the arrangements of these two beastmen, but because Xiong Gu had already extended his arm, blocking all her paths of retreat.
She couldn't avoid going.
However, these beasts didn't seem to have any objections to the utility knife tucked at her waist.
Cheng Shuili followed the two beasts along the road, attracting the attention of quite a few beastmen along the way.
She kept her head down, lost in thought. The secondary effect of the Supreme Monarch that she had used when speaking to these two beastmen must have taken effect.
