Chapter 356 · Volume 1

Level 6 Vehicle

Everyone was saying different things, but the appearance of the grand regional leaderboard had certainly brought some influence to them.
The regional channel tonight was much more peaceful than usual, even carrying a hint of harmony. People were encouraging and cheering each other on, with many sighing: "There is still true warmth in the world."
Cheng Shuili was not opposed to this, but seeing a group of people who argued every day suddenly become so friendly was still quite surreal.
It is worth mentioning that those newly created factions were still recruiting, flooding the regional channel with recruitment messages over and over again.
However, there were not many people in the entire partition willing to join factions, and with several large factions already established as the standard, it was likely difficult for these small factions to find members.
She quietly browsed the regional channel for a while before letting out a yawn and closing the panel.
"The countdown... it should be over, right?"
The words had barely left her lips when a white light, originating from nowhere, enveloped the entire vehicle.
Cheng Shuili felt relieved. She lay back on the bed, shielding her eyes from the blinding white light, and began to wait patiently.
A moment later, the vehicle had taken on a new form.
Su Rui had been sleeping on the sofa, but because the upgrade had shifted the furniture's position, she had fallen straight off.
Cheng Shuili, of course, had as well.
The two of them exchanged a look in the dim light, both appearing somewhat bewildered.
Cheng Shuili reached up to rub her messy hair before finally setting off to explore this unfamiliar "home."
Hmm...
Not only had the space expanded twofold, but it had also been divided into a complete layout with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
Entering through the vehicle door brought one into the entryway, and after a few steps, one truly stepped into the living space. The first thing that caught her eye was the living room, which was more than twice as spacious as before. The sofa that had caused Su Rui to fall was now placed against the wall, opposite a smooth, clean wall. If she could receive a projector and films in the future, she might even be able to watch movies here.
One side of the living room connected to a small, semi-open kitchen.
Cheng Shuili walked over, her fingers tracing the cold metal stovetop and the compact sink. The cabinets were empty, but having this foundation meant there would be plenty of space for food that did not need to be stored in the refrigerator.
On the side opposite the kitchen was a closed door.
Cheng Shuili pushed it open; her previous bathroom had been merged into this space.
A toilet, shower, and vanity were all included.
Furthermore, every space had been perfectly decorated, continuing the style Cheng Shuili had previously chosen.
As far as this renovation result went, she was certainly satisfied.
But...
180 Energy Stones! Just to turn the vehicle into a three-bedroom house?
Cheng Shuili definitely did not have an issue with the decor, nor with the interior space of the current vehicle, but... the system hadn't even produced another 001 to appease her!
After seeing the upgrade results, Cheng Shuili was a bit disappointed, though Su Rui was quite enthusiastic.
There was a bed in the secondary bedroom, so she would not have to sleep on the sofa anymore.
Besides, this was a new home after all. She opened the vehicle door and called for Cheng Shuili to go out together, under the guise of: "Experiencing the feeling of coming home."
Although Cheng Shuili was a bit disappointed, she could not bear to disappoint this person again, so she followed her out.
Su Rui covered her mouth with her hand, gave a few light coughs to provide a sense of ritual, and prepared to pull the vehicle door open. As she placed her hand on the handle, she inadvertently looked up: "Eh? What is that?"
Hearing this, Cheng Shuili followed her gaze.
On the roof of the vehicle, there was now a compact, ruggedly designed crossbow device.
It was matte black all over, with powerful, sturdy bow limbs and a deep crossbow groove. An alloy bolt glinting with cold light was already in position, its tip pointed diagonally toward the sky, exuding the deadly deterrent force unique to cold weapons.
"Is this... a crossbow?" Su Rui looked up, her voice filled with incredulous surprise.
Cheng Shuili's eyes lit up instantly.
She brought up the vehicle panel and, sure enough, found the new information:
【Unlocked external weapon mount (1/1).】
【Current equipment: Hound-type automatic crossbow (basic type). Status: Ready to fire.
Ammunition: 1/10. (Note: Bolts can be recovered.)】
A weapon! A roof-mounted weapon!
The disappointment in Cheng Shuili's heart had long since vanished, replaced by a sense of anticipation that filled her entire being.
She wanted to test the lethality of this thing right now!
Cheng Shuili turned her head and saw a good target: the monsters lurking menacingly outside the protective barrier.
There were some she recognized, but many more were entirely unfamiliar and looked even more terrifying.
Cheng Shuili flashed a smile at one of the monsters.
The light was dim, and the monster could not clearly see the expression on the human's face, but it knew that the little prey's gaze had just been on it.
And so, the monster grew excited as well.
It let out a roar and charged forward desperately, its sharp claws scraping against the vehicle's protective barrier, producing a teeth-grinding noise.
The smile on Cheng Shuili's face deepened, but her eyes were cold as ice.
She considered how to use the crossbow on the roof. She had already walked around the cabin, but she hadn't gone into the driver's cab to take a look. Thinking about it, the controls for this thing should be located there.
Cheng Shuili told Su Rui to wait outside and watch the power of the crossbow at close range, then stepped onto the vehicle herself.
Pushing open the door to the driver's cab, Cheng Shuili immediately saw the changes here.
The steering wheel was still there, but a strange, transparent panel had appeared below it, and a red button had been added to the lower left.
The panel glowed with blue light, appearing quite high-tech.
Cheng Shuili leaned over, tapped it lightly, and after studying it carefully for a while, successfully opened the firing interface for the crossbow.
Instantly, an extremely concise virtual targeting interface covered part of her field of vision. In the center was a pale blue crosshair, which moved slowly with the movement of her finger.
Although it was manual aiming, the speed was not slow.
She had gotten on the vehicle, but Su Rui was still outside. Because of this, the monsters had not lost their target and were all extremely active.
Cheng Shuili aligned the crosshair with the most restless monster that kept slamming into the protective barrier, parted her lips, and uttered two words: "Good night."
The next moment, she pressed the red button.
Whoosh—!
A low, sharp sound of something piercing the air rang out!
The matte black crossbow on the roof shook violently. A bolt, primed and ready, transformed into a black line that the naked eye could barely catch, instantly tearing through the air!
The roaring of the monster outside the protective barrier came to an abrupt end.
The bolt pierced its skull with extreme precision. Its immense kinetic energy even carried it straight through, and after penetrating several more monsters, the remaining force was enough to send their bodies flying backward, slamming into the ground a few meters away with a dull thud.
Dark liquid slowly spread out beneath them, before dissipating into tiny specks of light.
