The Superintendent’s voice began to tremble. He spun around abruptly and slapped Lang San across the face. "You scoundrel! You almost ruined the entire family!"
Lang San was sent spinning three times before collapsing onto the ground, looking completely bewildered.
The Superintendent knelt on one knee, his forehead nearly touching the floor. "Noble King, please forgive our offense..."
Cheng Shuili raised an eyebrow, gave a light cough, and said with a feigned air of superiority, "Superintendent, your nephew seems to be quite fond of abusing his power."
The Superintendent’s tail tucked between his legs instantly. "It... it is my failure to discipline him. I will send them to the mines for hard labor immediately! Ten years! No, twenty!"
Upon hearing this, Lang San rolled his eyes back and fainted on the spot.
"Not them," Cheng Shuili waved her hand, "your dear nephew."
She looked toward Lion Nian, "Also, can the paperwork for Boss Lion’s shop be finished today?"
"Yes! Of course!" The Superintendent nodded like a chicken pecking at rice. "I will personally oversee it! No, I will have someone bring the license over right now!"
The matter was resolved with unexpected smoothness.
The Superintendent immediately called someone over and, in front of Cheng Shuili, had the paperwork processed for Lion Nian.
"It’s about time." Cheng Shuili checked her watch and nodded at Lion Nian, "I’ll come by to visit another day."
Lion Nian looked grateful and bowed solemnly, "You are welcome anytime."
Cheng Shuili nodded slightly and left with Su Rui.
On the way, they passed Bao Chi’s Bakery, and Cheng Shuili stopped to say hello.
But because they were in such a rush, by the time Bao Chi tremblingly poked his head out, she and Su Rui had already walked far away.
Returning to her vehicle, Cheng Shuili immediately tried to contact Qi Wanyi. When she didn't receive a reply after a moment, she simply used a Designated Player Duel Card.
The highway merged instantly.
Su Rui was already inside the carriage; seeing Cheng Shuili prepare to disembark, she followed along.
The two walked one after another, stood in front of Qi Wanyi’s food truck, and knocked on the door.
Cheng Shuili lowered her head and waited for a while, her brow furrowing deeper with every passing second. Had her chef burned herself into a faint?
People often fear what eventually comes to pass.
Su Rui violently pried open the door. When they stepped inside to look, she had indeed fainted!
Qi Wanyi was lying on the floor, her face pale, her lips devoid of any color. The wound on her right arm seemed to have torn open, and the bandages wrapped around it were completely stained red.
Beside her sat a carton of opened milk; it was unclear what she had been doing before she collapsed.
Su Rui knelt beside her and reached out to feel the temperature of her forehead. The moment she touched it, she looked up at Cheng Shuili, "She has a fever. She’s burning up."
It seemed she was on the verge of death.
Whether it was due to infection or inflammation, Cheng Shuili wasn't a doctor, nor did she need to diagnose the cause.
The medicine bottle in her hand could heal all of Qi Wanyi’s injuries.
Alright, time to resurrect.
Cheng Shuili knelt down and gently brushed Qi Wanyi’s bangs, which were soaked with cold sweat, away from her forehead.
She took out the golden medicine bottle. The bottle emitted a soft glow in the dim carriage, pulsing slightly as if it were alive.
"I hope this thing is as miraculous as the description..."
She muttered to herself, pressing her thumb against the stopper and giving it a light twist.
With a soft "pop," a wisp of golden mist spilled from the bottle, carrying the fresh scent of grass after rain.
Cheng Shuili carefully tilted the bottle. A drop of golden liquid slid slowly down the inner glass wall, pausing at the rim just before falling, like a drop of liquid amber.
She carefully moved the bottle to Qi Wanyi’s lips, ensuring the drop would enter her mouth before tilting the bottle further.
As soon as the liquid touched her lips, it transformed into a soft stream of golden light that flowed into her body.
Qi Wanyi’s pale complexion regained its color at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Her tightly furrowed brow gradually smoothed out, and her previously rapid breathing became steady and long.
Most noticeably, the wound on her right arm—though the state beneath the bloody bandages was unclear—seemed as if the seeping blood was flowing back, slowly vanishing.
After only a few seconds, Qi Wanyi’s eyelashes fluttered gently, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her pupils were clear and bright; there was no sign of her recent critical condition.
She touched her arm, which was as good as new, in confusion, then looked down at the now-clean bandage on the floor.
"It doesn't hurt... am I... all better?"
Qi Wanyi’s voice was still a bit weak, but it had regained its strength.
This reaction... Cheng Shuili chuckled softly from the side and nodded, acknowledging her words, "You are."
Qi Wanyi’s eyes lit up. Although she didn't know what her boss had done, this must have taken a great deal of effort.
She pushed herself up, her body still feeling soft, and her gaze landed on the golden medicine bottle in Cheng Shuili’s hand. She blinked, finally realizing what had happened, and her eyes suddenly turned slightly red.
"Boss..." Her voice trembled, her fingers unconsciously clutching the corner of her shirt, "I..."
The words caught in her throat, and she could only lower her head, letting her hair cover her moist eyes.
Cheng Shuili was about to put the bottle away when she felt her sleeve being pulled gently.
Qi Wanyi’s fingers were still trembling, but she stubbornly refused to let go.
"That... it must be very precious, right?" Qi Wanyi finally looked up, her eyes still red-rimmed, but a bright smile already blooming on her face, "My life belongs to the boss from now on."
Didn't it already?
As Qi Wanyi spoke, she moved to stand up, but Cheng Shuili pressed her shoulder back down.
"Cut the act."
Cheng Shuili intentionally put on a stern face, but the corners of her mouth couldn't help but lift, "If you really want to thank me, get well quickly and get back to cooking. Everyone’s been having a rough time without you."
Qi Wanyi laughed out loud, and the tears finally fell. She quickly wiped her face with the back of her hand and took a deep breath, "Don't worry, Boss. Braised pork for dinner tonight!"
Her voice still held a nasal tone, but her eyes were exceptionally bright.
That was good.
Cheng Shuili noticed her secretly touching her healed right arm, her fingertips gently stroking the spot where the wound should have been, as if confirming whether this was a dream.
"How do you feel?" Cheng Shuili asked.
Qi Wanyi flexed her limbs, "Not only is the wound gone, but I feel so much lighter, as if I’ve had a really good sleep."
She touched her forehead, "Even the headache from the fever is completely gone."
Su Rui, observing closely from the side, added, "Your body temperature is completely normal. And..."
She pointed to Qi Wanyi’s arm, "The scars that were there just a moment ago are gone too."
Cheng Shuili was also shocked by the effect. It could even handle old scars, let alone minor hidden ailments. She put the golden bottle away with satisfaction, relieved that Qi Wanyi was fine and her own mood lifting as well.
"Oh, right," Qi Wanyi suddenly remembered something and pulled a carefully wrapped handkerchief from her pocket, "These are the cookies I made. I was planning to have you taste them right after they were done... I didn't expect to faint."
Her voice lowered, and she added sheepishly, "They might be a bit crushed now..."
What did that matter?
Cheng Shuili took the handkerchief directly and lifted a corner, immediately catching the rich scent of milk.
She raised an eyebrow. So that carton of milk was for this.
She picked up a piece and popped it into her mouth.
"Hmm... not bad." Cheng Shuili evaluated vaguely and handed a piece to Su Rui, "It’s tasty."
Su Rui pinched the cookie, her expression complex, before finally taking a light bite after a long moment.
Fine, even if she couldn't taste it, chewing on something was fine.
Qi Wanyi’s eyes lit up. She pursed her lips and smiled, revealing two small dimples on her cheeks, "I’ll go make some more!"
As she started to head toward the kitchen, Cheng Shuili grabbed her by the back of her collar, "You just came back to life and you’re already fussing? Rest honestly for a while first."
Qi Wanyi shrank her neck and sat obediently back in her chair, "Okay, okay, okay."
The group sat together and summarized the events of the day.
Qi Wanyi was young but had earned her Tier 1 Chef certificate under a master of a prestigious school. She felt that her master’s craft couldn't end with her, which was why she had been planning to take on a young apprentice.
That Wan Yue had just turned eighteen this year; she was definitely a decent candidate.
Cheng Shuili didn't understand it at all, but Su Rui nodded constantly on the side, like a chicken pecking at rice.
But thinking about it, Su Rui had a master of her own, so she should be able to understand, right?
The three chatted for a while, and once the Duel Card expired, the highway merge ended.
After a day of running around, Cheng Shuili was finally free.
She lay on her two-meter-wide bed, stretched comfortably, and made another trip to the manor to confirm the situation with the seeds.
Unlike the chaos of the egg-laying Egg Boss, the fire lizards were very quiet, staying obediently in the area Cheng Shuili had designated.
A dozen fire lizards huddled together, their large eyes wide open, blinking as they stared motionless at the shadow passing by.
They were actually quite cute.
Cheng Shuili wasn't the only one who thought so; this was the third time today that Yu Bing couldn't resist poking and prodding at these fire lizards, poking their bellies and then their tails.
Was this really not workplace harassment?
Cheng Shuili shook her head and found Zhou Zhuxing to ask about the important matters.
Zhou Zhuxing was crouching by the field ridges recording data. Seeing Cheng Shuili approach, she immediately closed her notebook and stood up. Her pant legs were still stained with fresh soil, and a withered yellow leaf was caught between her fingers.
"Boss, all of our seeds have been sown. What our garden lacks least is land, so every crop has its own dedicated plot."
As she spoke, she led Cheng Shuili toward the field edge, counting off on her fingers as she reported, "Once they’re planted, you can see the countdown for the seeds to grow. I’ve roughly divided these plots into three sections."
Cheng Shuili nodded slightly, signaling for her to continue.
"Here, this is Zone A, planted with the fast-growing variety. After the countdown, they’ll sprout in three days. This is Zone B, planted with the improved seeds that beastman gave me. He said the yield will be 30% higher, but it takes seven days to sprout, and a long time until harvest. This is Zone C..."
