Chapter 157 · Volume 1

Schrödinger's Can

A knock suddenly sounded at the door. Su Rui glanced at Cheng Shuili, who was sitting on the floor mat, and silently went to open it.
A boisterous female voice came from the doorway: "Bo... Boss??"
Su Rui kept a cold expression and silently stepped aside.
This revealed Cheng Shuili sitting behind her.
Liang Shanbo immediately realized she had mistaken the person, and after a flurry of flustered apologies, the three of them gathered around the 【Schrödinger's Can】 and sat together on Su Rui's floor mat.
Liang Shanbo was a very cute girl with round cheeks and a few stubborn strands of hair sticking up on her head. She was wearing a dinosaur-style onesie for spring and autumn, with the pant legs dragging on the ground, making her look both dorky and adorable.
She looked very much like a short-legged corgi that had snuck into human clothes.
While Cheng Shuili observed Liang Shanbo, Liang Shanbo was also watching Cheng Shuili. She suddenly covered her eyes with a "wow," but peeked through her fingers with sparkling eyes: "Boss, you look so cool!! Even this harsh overhead lighting angle looks good on you!"
Cheng Shuili hadn't heard such unfiltered flattery in person for a long time. Even though the corners of her mouth were lifting uncontrollably, she tried hard to keep a straight face and pushed the can toward Liang Shanbo. "Stop with the flattery. Open the crate."
Liang Shanbo nodded and shimmied forward, her dinosaur tail dragging on the floor with a "slithering" sound.
Cheng Shuili’s mouth twitched again. How could this person be so silly yet so cute?
"I was wondering what was going on? It's just opening a can?" Liang Shanbo’s chubby fingers hooked the pull tab.
Cheng Shuili noticed that the girl had a red string tied around her right wrist, strung with five or six miniature koi fish charms of different styles.
No wonder her luck was so good.
With a "click" of the opening, the can erupted with colorful confetti, and a small slip of paper fluttered onto Liang Shanbo’s dinosaur claw:
【Congratulations on obtaining a "100% Forced to Catch Blades Barehanded" trial voucher x1 (limited to 24 hours), automatically activated!】
"Boss, look!" Liang Shanbo jumped up in excitement, and three packs of spicy strips and two bags of shrimp chips suddenly tumbled out of her dinosaur hood. "I knew it! My left eyelid was twitching when I washed my face today! Good stuff!"
She scrambled to pick up the snacks, and a few chocolate balls rolled out of her onesie pocket.
Cheng Shuili: "......"
This girl was truly a glutton.
But... it didn't seem like the can contained anything good.
It wasn't "100% Catch Blades Barehanded," but "100% Forced to Catch Blades Barehanded"!
Cheng Shuili was silent for a moment. Changing her perspective, this was actually a decent crowd-control skill. It was a pity it had been used immediately; otherwise, it would have definitely played an unexpected role at a critical moment.
The can slowly closed after being opened, appearing not to be a one-time item. Cheng Shuili pinched the now-closed can and handed it to Liang Shanbo, telling her to open it again.
This time, Liang Shanbo used all her strength, but she couldn't get a grip on the pull tab at all.
Cheng Shuili understood; it likely had a cooldown period.
This can didn't even have a probability description or at least a list of what might be inside.
She really didn't dare to open items without descriptions.
So... she had called Liang Shanbo over.
Liang Shanbo, still unaware of Cheng Shuili’s sinister intentions, was led by Su Rui to the front of the refrigerator. She excitedly crouched down and grabbed a few vegetables she could eat directly, like tomatoes and cucumbers—she’d just treat them as fruit!
The tomatoes were icy cold, and holding them in the extreme heat was quite comfortable. She couldn't help but sigh: "It’s still best at Boss's place. Even though it's the same air conditioning, it just feels cooler here."
How could it not be cool?
Cheng Shuili glanced at her while taking a break; the girl was practically sticking her head inside the refrigerator.
Had no one told her she could wear short sleeves in this heat?
Cheng Shuili thought about it but didn't say anything; she never had the desire to interfere with other people's preferences.
"Ah!" Liang Shanbo suddenly let out a strange cry.
The other two in the vehicle looked over in the direction of the sound. Liang Shanbo’s chubby finger was pointing at the top shelf of the refrigerator—what was that placed there again?
"Watermelon! Boss!" Liang Shanbo’s eyes sparkled; she was clearly craving it.
Cheng Shuili was somewhat silent, feeling as if the grain she had stockpiled had been discovered by a mouse.
But looking at Liang Shanbo, it should be a hamster.
Forget it. It had to be eaten eventually; since it had been seen, they might as well eat it now. It would go perfectly with the bread from her Abyss Ring, making for a decent meal!
Liang Shanbo, having received permission, couldn't wait to hug the watermelon out. The claws of her dinosaur onesie slipped on the rind, and she almost dropped the melon on the floor.
Cheng Shuili caught it with quick reflexes. When her fingertips touched the icy rind, she frowned as if remembering something.
"Where's the knife?" she asked.
Su Rui silently retrieved a fruit knife from the kitchen workstation drawer.
This knife hadn't been used many times, but it was finally coming in handy today.
The moment Cheng Shuili took the knife, Liang Shanbo suddenly knelt on the floor with a "thump," hands raised high above her head and palms pressed together—precisely trapping the fruit knife Cheng Shuili was swinging down.
The air froze for two seconds.
"Ah! This is that skill!"
Liang Shanbo excitedly let go of her hands, and the fruit knife clattered onto the floor. "Boss, look! It’s super powerful, right!"
Cheng Shuili stared at her empty hand, then looked at Liang Shanbo, who was kneeling on the ground and grinning foolishly. She suddenly felt her temples throbbing.
She bent down to pick up the fruit knife, this time deliberately slowing her movement as she cut toward the watermelon—
"Slap!"
Liang Shanbo again knelt down with lightning speed to catch the knife.
"Are you doing this on purpose?" Cheng Shuili narrowed her eyes.
The tail of the dinosaur onesie swept back and forth on the floor. Liang Shanbo tilted her head up and giggled foolishly: "It's not on purpose! The skill seems to trigger automatically... Boss, why don't you try throwing the knife further away?"
Cheng Shuili took a deep breath and suddenly turned to throw the fruit knife toward the sofa at the other end of the vehicle.
Liang Shanbo darted out like an arrow released from a bow, the hood of her dinosaur onesie flipping up from the wind. In the second before the tip of the knife was about to pierce the sofa, she knelt down and caught the blade in an extremely twisted posture.
This works too?
With the speed Liang Shanbo just displayed, it definitely wasn't something she could normally burst out with!
"We're done for," Su Rui muttered softly. "It lasts for 24 hours."
Indeed.
24 hours.
Cheng Shuili was speechless. On one level, this could be considered a god-tier skill.
Unfortunately, it was too random; whether you could even open it from the can was one thing, and the fixed duration was another. Overall, it still wasn't as good as getting her a better piece of special equipment!
Cheng Shuili sighed, her gaze suddenly falling on the remaining two boxes.
With the lucky charm here, why bother with the watermelon!
"Stop eating for a second, open these two boxes!"
"Okay, Boss!"
The three of them sat cross-legged on Su Rui's floor mat again.
After the earlier commotion, the floor mat was completely messy. Su Rui would definitely have to lay it out again to sleep tonight.
