Chapter 13 · Volume 1

The Great BUG!

"Come look at mine! Come look at mine! The carrots and vegetables at our Rabbit Stall are the healthiest! And they're very cheap—only ten game coins for one carrot!"
Cheng Shuili didn't say anything. Forget ten game coins, she didn't have a single cent on her.
But looking was free. Cheng Shuili leaned in front of the Rabbit Stall, where several kinds of vegetables—carrots, cabbage, spinach, and more—were neatly arranged on a cloth.
They looked lush and green, still glistening with drops of water. They were exceptionally fresh! Unfortunately, Cheng Shuili didn't know how to cook and had no game coins; even if she wanted to eat them, she couldn't.
Further ahead was the stall of a fox beastman. Seeing Cheng Shuili, he introduced his wares enthusiastically. "Yo, human! Haven't found the right item yet? Come look at mine! Our fox family sells instant foods—a hundred times more convenient than what that rabbit is selling."
He pulled a sly smile. "But the price... well, it's definitely a bit more expensive than the rabbit's! Look, you're my first customer, so I'll give you a discount."
Cheng Shuili stopped at the stall and pointed to the instant noodles. "How much for a pack of these?"
"Not much!" The fox beastman held up two fingers. "Just this much!"
Cheng Shuili pondered for a moment. "Twenty game coins?"
"My stuff is a hundred times better than the rabbit's! How could it be that cheap? It's two hundred!"
Cheng Shuili frowned and turned to leave. What a profiteer! Twenty would have been reasonable, but he wanted two hundred!
"Hey, don't go!"
Cheng Shuili ignored his calls. The Trading Post had everything one could need, and it was all high quality. It was a pity she didn't have a single game coin.
But browsing was still free.
Cheng Shuili walked into the magnificent Ten Thousand Beasts Merchant House. A dog beastman wearing a black vest immediately stepped forward to greet her.
"Distinguished guest, what do you need? Our Ten Thousand Beasts Merchant House has a complete range of goods! Spend 2,000 game coins to obtain Tier 1 VIP status! Spend 4,000 for Tier 2 VIP! And spend 100,000 game coins to become a Tier 3 VIP member!"
"Tier 1 VIPs get a 10% discount at our merchant house! Tier 2 gets 20% off! Tier 3 gets 40% off!"
Cheng Shuili nodded, committing the information to memory while pretending to have money. "I'll just browse for a bit first. You don't need to follow me."
"Certainly." The dog beastman nodded and stepped away.
Cheng Shuili walked forward a few steps. The counters on both sides were filled with a dazzling array of goods covering food, clothing, housing, and transportation, though they were significantly more expensive than the stalls outside.
In the very center sat a card. Cheng Shuili leaned in to take a look; it was the Employee ID the radio had mentioned.
Cheng Shuili had intended to just take a casual look since she couldn't afford it anyway, but she was stunned when her eyes brushed over the price tag.
It wasn't the 3,999 broadcast on the radio, but a big fat 0!
A BUG!
A BUG that might actually be useful!
Cheng Shuili's heart raced. She guessed that game coins were likely a type of virtual currency. Since it was part of the system, the payment process should also be handled by the system!
In other words, there was a chance she could snag a massive bargain!
Cheng Shuili immediately went to find the dog beastman. Pointing at the Employee ID, she said, "I want to buy this."
"Of course! I'll wrap it up for you right away!"
The dog beastman picked up the card with extreme care, looking as though he intended to take it straight to packaging.
Cheng Shuili quickly said, "No need. I'll pay for it right now."
Hearing this, the dog beastman immediately realized he was dealing with a major client. This Employee ID cost a full 3,999 game coins. If this sale went through, he would get a 10% commission—a whole 400 game coins!
His heart burned with excitement, and the way he looked at Cheng Shuili became fervent. This wasn't some ugly human; this was a God of Wealth!
He led Cheng Shuili straight to the checkout. The cashier was an elephant-headed beastman; she picked up the Employee ID and scanned it with a device. The amount immediately appeared on a nearby screen.
【About to purchase Employee ID. You need to pay 0 game coins. Proceed?】
Excellent, it really was a system operation!
This BUG was suddenly looking magnificent!
Cheng Shuili clicked "Yes." After the system flashed for a moment, a new page popped up.
【Transaction successful.】
【You have obtained Tier 1 VIP status with the Ten Thousand Beasts Chamber of Commerce! 10% discount on all purchases!】
【Employee ID: Upon use, gain a beastman NPC identity, allowing entry into any beastman town! Also unlocks the Quick Sell Channel, where unwanted items can be directly exchanged for game coins!】
Cheng Shuili gripped the card tightly. She gave the elephant and dog beastmen a smile and a nod before turning and slowly walking out of the Ten Thousand Beasts Merchant House.
As soon as she cleared the main entrance, she broke into a sprint, fleeing back to her shopping cart as if her life depended on it.
The dog beastman frowned as he watched her. "Why is that guest running so fast?"
The elephant beastman was also frowning. She studied the screen for a while to confirm the "Payment Successful" status, then scratched her head in confusion. "Yeah, she paid. Why run so fast?"
"She wouldn't be able to get out without paying anyway. Mao Ning at the gate isn't a pushover."
The dog beastman watched Cheng Shuili leave, guessing that this might be a peculiar quirk of humans. After all, Cheng Shuili was his first human customer.
He had to admit... human business was easy to handle.
As he watched Cheng Shuili drive off in her shopping cart, he suddenly realized something was wrong. "Did she pay?"
The elephant beastman looked dazed. "She did."
The dog beastman slapped the table. "Then where's the sound of the money!"
Whenever he did business with other beastmen, a successful transaction was always followed by the sound of rolling coins—the notification that game coins had been credited! "Where are my 3,999 game coins? Where's my 400!"
The elephant beastman continued to scratch her head. "What's the rush? My 40 is in there too! Maybe there's a delay when trading with humans."
"Really?"
"Probably."
Cheng Shuili drove the shopping cart forward, her heart blooming with joy. She had just made a small fortune!
She held the card and chose to use it. The system notified her:
【You have obtained a beastman identity!】
【You have obtained selling permissions!】
Cheng Shuili nodded with satisfaction. This was quite the haul!
She didn't know that after she left, the two beastmen sat facing each other, propping up their heads as they calculated the accounts all night, unable to figure out where the 3,999 game coins she "paid" had gone.
At 3:00 PM, Cheng Shuili successfully completed her planned travel for the day.
She didn't stop. The grand prize she coveted was right ahead; who would give up now?
However, driving constantly was a bit boring, so she opened the Regional Channel to see what everyone was talking about.
To her surprise, the first thing she saw was the latest message from 【Glory Shines on Blue Star】.
【Glory Shines on Blue Star】: It's best to stop and explore any buildings you encounter on the road. Currently, we know of four types of buildings.
