After storing all the magic items inside his storage space,
Li Xiuman had completely forgotten about the residents of White Bear City, who were currently suffering under the monster's onslaught.
White Bear City? He wasn't familiar with it.
Right now, he only wanted to conduct an adventurous treasure hunt in Viscount Fantes's manor.
Viscount Fantes was simply a real treasure of a man.
Li Xiuman had already swept clean all of the magic items.
What remained in the treasury were only some artworks and famous paintings.
Li Xiuman didn't understand any of this, but perhaps other gullible nobles would recognize their value.
So, Li Xiuman packed them all up and stuffed them into his storage space.
Li Xiuman was very clever; he only packed the signed ones, as those looked like they would hold their value well.
After packing up all the artworks, Li Xiuman left the treasury.
He took only a few steps before turning around to look at the treasury.
“This alloy door is tough enough. I like it.”
Li Xiuman dismantled the entire thick alloy door and shoved it into his storage space.
He truly was a real treasure, that Viscount Fantes.
Even for a door, the materials used were incredibly solid, with no cheap tricks—a pure, honest deal.
Li Xiuman was almost moved to tears.
With such a massive alloy door, he could take a trip to Iron River City later and see how many fine blades he could forge from it.
Then, he continued his search.
Porcelain? Looks expensive. Taken.
Vases? Look expensive. Taken.
Carpets? Look expensive. Taken.
Li Xiuman practically dug three feet into the ground, flipping Viscount Fantes's entire home upside down.
As he left, Li Xiuman still felt a bit unsatisfied.
He couldn't help but feel he hadn't searched thoroughly enough. Did Fantes have some other secret vault hidden away?
“...I guess there really isn't anything else.”
Li Xiuman sighed and tidied up his appearance.
He properly equipped his newly acquired Giant's Belt and Deep Black Cloak before finally rushing toward the direction of the monster.
Now, it was time for Li Xiuman to make his debut as the hero who saved White Bear City.
Viscount Fantes was simply too kind, paving such a smooth path for him.
He even laid himself in it at the end, just so Li Xiuman could tread on it comfortably.
This kind of self-sacrifice truly filled Li Xiuman with admiration.
He knew he couldn't measure up.
Li Xiuman sighed in amazement as he ran.
He arrived near the monster.
Count Wit's squad had already suffered casualties, and their physical strength and mana were almost completely depleted, though they had managed to deal a certain amount of damage to the monster.
Right now, they were holding on purely through sheer willpower.
The surrounding residents had also been mostly evacuated.
This was all thanks to the White Feather Merchant Association stepping up at the crucial moment, appearing on the dangerous front line to shoulder the heavy burden of evacuating the citizens.
Yet even so, a large number of White Bear City residents had perished, turned into corpses forever under the monster's onslaught.
Li Xiuman watched this with a heavy heart, thinking that if only he could have been a little faster...
If he had been just a bit quicker, they wouldn't have...
“Wait, I was so focused on grabbing Fantes's gold coins, where are the gold coins on my own person?”
“Where's my coin pouch?!”
“Did I drop it on the way, or back in the manor?!”
“Oh no, oh no, I have to go back and search! There are over a hundred gold coins in there. If someone picks it up, I'll have worked for several days for nothing!”
The grieving and sorrowful Li Xiuman didn't hesitate for a single second. He immediately retraced his steps to search for his coin pouch.
Only when he finally found the coin pouch did Li Xiuman's suspended heart slowly settle.
Thank goodness, the gold coins weren't lost.
Wait, while searching for the gold coins, it felt like he had forgotten something...
“Boom!”
With a loud boom, Li Xiuman snapped back to his senses.
“The monster! Right! The monster!”
“I, whose heart aches with sorrow and grief, am supposed to risk my life to rescue White Bear City from this living hell!”
“Look at my memory!”
Li Xiuman spun around and dashed back to the front line once more.
In just that short time, several more of the holding-on Mages and Warriors had successfully kicked the bucket.
Watching this, Li Xiuman's heart truly ached with grief.
Without hesitation, he held his wand high.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Green, yellow, and red magic circles expanded in mid-air.
Rocks materialized in the air, shaping themselves into sharp spears.
A fierce wind enveloped the spears, suddenly spinning and spinning, whipping up a tempest!
The red magic circle, resembling a red dragon's head, spat out crimson lotus flames that wrapped around the spears along with the tempest.
The violent magic instantly drew countless gazes.
And the monster, too, immediately noticed Li Xiuman's figure atop the tall building.
“Roar!”
Following the monster's roar, a massive tentacle smashed toward Li Xiuman, aiming to interrupt his spellcasting.
Li Xiuman didn't budge. Number Zero swiftly dashed in front of him.
Bracing her body against the Shield of the King, she took the tentacle's impact head-on.
“Tier 2 Fusion Magic, Storm Molten Spear!”
As Li Xiuman lowered his wand, the windstorm-wrapped molten spears shot toward the monster like meteors.
The violent momentum of the molten spears instantly attracted a great deal of attention.
Not only was it powerful, but the visual grandeur of Storm Molten Spear was also top-tier among magic spells.
The wind-wrapped molten spears struck the monster's body, which was piled high with chunks of flesh.
In an instant, rippling waves of flesh blasted outward from the monster's pitch-black body.
Shredded flesh, enveloped in flames, splattered in all directions.
The monster's body shook violently and collapsed toward the ground.
The rock spears impaled themselves deep into the monster's body, as thick, foul-smelling black liquid continuously leaked out from the wounds.
Its hideous face let out an angry roar, and tentacles wrapped around the rock spears, trying to yank them out.
“Don't even think about it!”
Li Xiuman waved his raised wand.
As he waved, red magic circles expanded in the air, blotting out the sky.
“Tier 2 Magic, Fire Rain!”
Countless fireballs rained down upon the monster, covering the entire area.
They formed a beautiful curtain of fire across the mid-air.
Confronted with this onslaught, the monster roared and swept its thick tentacles toward the falling rain of fireballs.
Struck by the tentacles, the fireballs exploded one after another, blowing chunks out of the limbs and leaving them riddled with holes.
But soon, those pitted wounds healed rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.
More and more tentacles sprouted from its flesh-heap body one after another, surging toward Li Xiuman.
“As expected of the monster Fantes used to destroy White Bear City!”
Li Xiuman drew Crystal Orchid and gripped it tightly in his hand.
He then slashed out several sword waves in rapid succession.
Accompanied by a freezing frost, the chilly slashes slammed heavily into all the reaching tentacles.
The frost quickly spread from the impacted spots, engulfing the entire lengths of the tentacles.
The tentacles slowed down in mid-air until they were completely frozen solid.
“Roar!”
Seeing its tentacles frozen one after another, the monster let out an angry roar.
Griping Crystal Orchid, Li Xiuman's confidence swelled. He slipped past the frozen tentacles and prepared to charge at the monster's main body.
He hadn't realized how strong he truly was until they actually started fighting.
Maybe he didn't even need that fellow Fantes's blood. On his own, he could...
“Crack, crack!”
The sound of shattering ice echoed all around.
Li Xiuman quickly looked around, only to find the ice coating the frozen mid-air tentacles fracturing bit by bit.
Crystal Orchid was indeed powerful, but Li Xiuman himself was only Level 28.
“...Uh-oh, this is bad.”
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
All the tentacles rushed toward Li Xiuman in unison.
