Chapter 10 · Volume 1

Skeletons Hate Buffs

“The Lord's seraph walks the earth, sowing His benevolence.”
“Tier 1 Spell, Seraph's Blessing.”
The Priests' chants joined together in a harmonious chorus once more.
In an instant, the humans' weapons were coated in a layer of holy light. They cut through skeletons like a goddamn hot knife through butter, making Li Xiuman's scalp tingle with dread.
Is there no end to this?!
They're just stacking buffs without a single goddamn pause!
Li Xiuman felt that the edge of the battlefield was so incredibly far away.
He almost wanted to just burst with power and charge straight through. He really couldn't stand these buff-obsessed monsters.
Stay calm. Bide my time, bide my time.
Up until now, Li Xiuman hadn't drawn anyone's attention.
As long as he crept to the edge of the battlefield, hid himself, and looked for an opportunity, he would eventually find a way to escape this demon's clutches.
He had already racked up over 2,000 experience points from finishing off enemies. Once this battle was over, with the evolution and class change, he might even jump several levels at once.
This was probably the only thing that could comfort him.
But if he couldn't escape Pound's clutches, no matter how high his level was, it would all be in vain—he would just be doomed to a life of forced labor.
Li Xiuman strengthened his resolve to escape Pound's clutches.
“Skeleton, do not run!”
A human suddenly lunged forward, pouncing toward Li Xiuman.
Li Xiuman maneuvered nimbly, quickly grouping several skeletons together to surround the human.
Before the human could realize what was happening, they fell victim to a righteous gang beating and a finishing blow, contributing to the experience points of an evil skeleton.
“Almost there, almost there!”
Li Xiuman could already see the edge of the battlefield.
Further ahead... lay glorious freedom.
It was the sea, sailing ships, and an endless new continent.
Adventures in another world, cute elves, and beast-eared girls were waiting for him out there.
No, the thought of elves and beast-eared girls only made him feel even more pathetic...
He reached out his hand, wanting to embrace freedom.
Boom!
A loud explosion rang out, kicking up a massive cloud of dust and smoke.
It was Pound, who had been smashed down from the sky.
Li Xiuman's body was sent flying by the resulting shockwave, landing right... in the center of the battlefield.
Freedom... splat, gone.
At this moment, Li Xiuman's hatred for Pound, the missionary, and the Warrior in heavy purple armor reached its absolute peak.
Pound's crash-landing instantly blew away a vast number of skeletons and humans, creating a temporary vacuum zone in the center of the battlefield.
The heavy-purple-armored Warrior raised their greatsword and slashed down ruthlessly.
The sword light drew a mesmerizing silver screen of light through the air.
Just as Pound was about to dodge, a giant golden spear rained down from the sky alongside a loud chant, piercing through the gaps in Pound's ribcage and pinning him to the ground.
Next, the greatsword chopped down toward Pound's head.
“Roar!!!”
Pound roared, the flames in his chest cavity and eye sockets burning furiously. He raised his head, spewing a torrent of eerie blue fire from his mouth.
The purple-armored Warrior was forced to dodge. The greatsword veered off course, missing Pound's head and striking his horn instead.
Screeech!
With an ear-grating screech of metal against bone, a chunk of his horn was cleanly sliced off.
Pound seized the opportunity to ram the purple-armored Warrior aside. Flapping his wings violently, the flames inside his chest crackled loudly, shattering the golden spear to pieces.
Freed from his restraints, Pound soared high into the sky, unleashing his blue dragon breath indiscriminately across the entire battlefield.
The succubi quickly took flight to dodge, leaving the skeletons to bear the brunt of the assault.
Especially Li Xiuman, who currently wanted nothing more than to curse out every single living being in the world who could understand him.
This was probably the legendary world-weariness.
But right now, Pound was utterly infuriated. Having lost all reason, he continued his indiscriminate slaughter.
The missionary and the purple-armored Warrior had no choice but to defend against the rampaging dragon.
The high-level units on both sides scrambled to avoid the raging Pound. No one spared a glance for the Low-Tier Skeletons, who were treated as mere fodder.
His opportunity had arrived.
Li Xiuman's eyes lit up. As he swept his gaze across the battlefield, his excitement almost spilled over from his empty sockets.
“Finally, it's here! Finally!”
Li Xiuman blended into the crowd of skeletons, running in the opposite direction of Pound.
Activating [Quiet Steps], he lowered his stance, reducing his presence to the absolute minimum.
He ran and ran, faster and faster.
The surrounding scenery flashed past him. Before long, Li Xiuman reached the edge of the battlefield.
A few humans noticed a Low-Tier Skeleton that seemed entirely focused on escaping the battlefield, and they closed in to block him.
They were highly careless, not even raising their weapons.
After all, he was just a Low-Tier Skeleton.
Li Xiuman's eyes quickly scanned the humans.
Two Level 11s, one Level 12, and two Level 13s.
Two Mages, two Heavy Warriors, and one Swordsman.
Essentially: squishies, tanks, and melee damage-dealers.
“A Low-Tier Skeleton? Why is it acting so weird, rushing over here?”
One of the tanks spoke up.
“Hurry up and finish it. That bone dragon over there is going crazy. Dammit, we shouldn't have taken this commission.”
The Swordsman spoke, casually raising his sword and pointing it at Li Xiuman with utter indifference.
None of them considered Li Xiuman a threat—until he bared his fangs.
To a skeleton, baring fangs took only an instant.
His ribs instantly reshaped into a bone sword. Raising one hand, he shot a mud bullet composed of mud and water.
“Magic?! What the hell?!”
The Swordsman was clearly stunned, hastily raising his sword to block.
But Li Xiuman was incredibly fast. The mud bullet instantly hit the eyes of both the Swordsman and the two tanks.
Blinded in an instant, the Swordsman and the two tanks were visibly dazed.
However, they were indeed experienced adventurers. The tanks groped forward and activated their skills, creating a barrier.
The Swordsman immediately retreated, trying to fumble his way behind the tanks' barrier to wipe his eyes.
How could Li Xiuman possibly give them the chance?
With a hard stomp of his foot, the ground beneath the tanks and the Swordsman instantly turned into a quagmire.
The sudden shift caused the two Heavy Warriors to wobble. The lack of vision combined with their unstable footing left a massive opening in their barrier.
Seizing the opening, he leaped into the air and threw his bone sword. Trails of blue soul fire followed the weapon as it flew straight toward the Swordsman's throat.
A direct hit.
The Swordsman clutched his neck, but all he could feel was hot, gushing blood.
[Ding, killed human Swordsman Lv13, Experience Points +250]
“Fireball!”
“Sinking Earth!”
The two Mages had finally reacted and hastily unleashed their spells.
The ground beneath him gave way, and a fireball hurtled toward him.
But Li Xiuman had been on guard against these two Mages all along. Following the collapse of the ground, he threw himself down, successfully dodging the fireball.
Seeing this, the Mage immediately detonated the fireball.
However, Li Xiuman's body was already enveloped in a veil of water. Even though the explosive force of the fireball pierced through the water barrier, it posed absolutely no threat to Li Xiuman, who possessed 12 points of Constitution and the [Elemental Resistance] technique.
Activating [Swiftness], he bent his body low and ignored the roars of the two tanks, charging straight at the two squishy Mages.
Without enough time to cast another spell, one of the Mages rushed forward, swinging his blunt staff to block Li Xiuman, while the other retreated to chant from behind.
The Mages in this world were by no means completely defenseless in close combat.
He swung his heavy staff with impressive force, aiming straight for Li Xiuman's vital spots.
Li Xiuman only wanted to end this fight as quickly as possible.
He raised his right arm, and the arm bone rapidly squirmed and grew, forming a long, narrow bone shield to meet the oncoming blow.
With a loud bang, the staff was deflected. Only a few bone shards and some powder chipped off the bone shield.
For a skeleton, this could only be considered a minor scratch.
What kind of ability was this?! What kind of defense?! Was this really the weak, frail skeleton they were supposed to be beating?!
The Mage's mind was filled with question marks.
Li Xiuman really wanted to yell: 'I have twelve points of Constitution, kid!'
His other hand suddenly grew sharp claws, instantly tearing open the Mage's throat and windpipe.
Blood sprayed out, staining the white skeleton red.
Meanwhile, the other Mage had finished his chant.
“Tier 1 Spell, Elven Fire Arrow!”
Flame condensed in the air, shaping into a lifelike arrow. With a loud crack, it shot toward Li Xiuman.
Fast. It was simply too fast.
Li Xiuman only saw a streak of red.
He raised his right arm, but the bone shield was instantly pierced, leaving a small hole.
The fire arrow continued its unstoppable path, grazing past his skull.
At this sight, a look of despair washed over the Mage's face.
“Get away!”
The two Heavy Warriors had finally broken free from the quagmire and cleared their vision, rushing toward Li Xiuman.
But Li Xiuman wouldn't give them any opportunities. Taking a large stride forward, he gripped the remaining Mage's throat.
Activating [Great Strength], he effortlessly crushed the Mage's neck.
Blood flowed down his stark white bones. Deep within his hollow ribcage, the eerie blue soul fire burned silently.
This was a skeleton.
