Chapter 74 · Volume 1

Why Does Your Blood Have a Strange Taste?

If he activated Incorporeal, Lynn could burrow into the ground.
Beneath the Graveyard was likely the sewers, and once inside, even a vampire wouldn't be able to catch him quickly.
Should he use this Skill?
During his brief hesitation, the vampire girl didn't seem intent on forcing him. Instead, she propped her chin in her hands, gazing expectantly at Lynn, and asked curiously,
“What, do you have any other concerns?”
The girl's words carried an indescribable allure.
Her unique tone, combined with magic, amplified Lynn's most direct desires.
Lynn thought for a moment.
He finally gave his answer:
“You’ll have to pay more.”
The vampire girl: “?”
Feeling somewhat amused, the vampire girl waved a hand, and a Mage Hand coalesced from thin air, drawing a gold candelabra towards her.
“How about adding this? It should be quite valuable.”
Lynn shook his head. When it came to prices, he had surprisingly calmed down.
“I need you to help me with something. Most likely, it’ll be to hunt a magical beast, but its rank won’t be higher than yours.”
After saying that, he glanced at the gold candelabra again.
“Of course, I want this too.”
Since there was room for negotiation, Lynn naturally wanted to secure the highest return for the blood he was about to offer.
“If it’s about hunting a magical beast, that’s fine.”
The vampire girl agreed without hesitation.
Then, she finally couldn't suppress her craving for blood and pounced on Lynn.
Although the girl was light, with the boost of speed, she still knocked Lynn directly onto the long chair.
Thinking of all the sacrifices she had made for this mouthful of blood, the vampire girl, lying on Lynn’s chest, showed no politeness at all. She ripped open Lynn's leather armor and clothes, revealing the young man’s somewhat pale chest.
To savor the purest taste of fresh blood, the girl intended to draw blood directly from near his heart.
The vampire girl opened her mouth, revealing a pair of clean, sharp fangs.
Lynn: “Stop, stop, stop.”
The vampire girl: “What’s wrong?”
Lynn: “I’m afraid of needles.”
“I don’t care!”
With that, the vampire girl bit down directly.
How dare he look down on my fangs!
This is the ultimate insult to a High Vampire!
The moment her fangs pierced his skin, there was a slight sting. Lynn tensed his skin, but Hardening offered no protection against the vampire’s sharp fangs, and his blood began to flow.
If I can't struggle, I might as well enjoy it.
After a brief sting, a tingling sensation spread from where her fangs had bitten him.
Lynn closed his eyes.
Though he still rejected childlike aesthetics,
having a young girl suck his blood was better than having a burly man.
But before the vampire girl could take more than a couple of sips,
she suddenly pulled her fangs out of Lynn.
“Ugh—”
The vampire girl quickly ran to the side and dry-heaved.
After a while, she recovered, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth.
Lynn was also a bit puzzled: “What’s wrong?”
Why did the vampire suddenly stop halfway through drinking?
After recovering, the vampire girl looked at Lynn with a strange expression.
“Your blood...”
The vampire girl hesitated, words failing her.
This blood is so bad...
No, wait, it’s also a little good... Oh, no, no, no...
The vampire girl felt her head spinning.
Is this human blood?
Why does it taste so strange?!
She licked the blood clinging to the corner of her lips, savoring again this blood that was extremely alluring to a vampire, yet incredibly peculiar once tasted.
From its composition, it was undoubtedly human blood; there was no question.
But this guy’s blood had a very strange taste, a mix of various flavors, almost like flavored meat skewers.
When she first drew it into her mouth, the taste felt odd, but upon closer savoring, it held a deliciousness the girl had never experienced before.
If she had to describe it, this adventurer's blood was very fragrant.
If Slime Pudding had blood, it would probably taste like this.
But beneath that fragrant base, it was mixed with all sorts of flavors, making the blood a truly unique delicacy.
If one could adapt to the sensation of dozens of flavors exploding in their mouth at once, they would probably fall in love with this taste.
“Just let me taste one more sip, just one!”
The vampire girl looked up at Lynn with a pitiful expression.
But Lynn, of course, righteously refused: “We agreed on only one sip.”
“Fine, don’t drink.”
Rejected by Lynn, the vampire girl suddenly reverted to her aloof demeanor from when she first appeared, as if the pitiful figure just moments ago hadn't been her.
However, the vampire girl's gaze still flickered occasionally to Lynn’s open chest.
The passive effect of Enhanced Self-Healing seemed to be suppressed by the vampire’s fangs, preventing the wound from fully healing and causing a little blood to seep out.
“No, I have to help your wound heal.”
With that, the vampire girl leaned her head forward.
Lynn quickly tried to press her head away with his hand, only to find that his Strength was much less than the vampire girl's.
Fortunately, the girl wasn't lying; she genuinely intended to help Lynn heal his wound.
But the method she used...
Lynn looked down. The vampire girl, like a kitten kneading its mother, lapped the blood into her mouth with her tongue.
It made his chest feel a little itchy.
“Don’t worry, to prevent prey from being completely consumed in one go, our saliva has long had the ability to help you heal wounds. A lick or two after drinking blood, and it won’t bleed anymore.”
The vampire girl carefully drank all the spilled blood.
And Lynn’s wound, as expected, healed immediately.
Unable to smell any more blood, the now heartless vampire girl immediately turned cold toward Lynn.
“Take your things and go. Next time you need me, just come to the Graveyard. You’ll see the moon dust fungus when you return to the Graveyard.”
As Lynn took the gold candelabra in his hand, the vampire girl lightly tapped it.
A crimson light flashed, and Lynn found himself back in the Graveyard.
The Monk and Lupa nearby didn't seem to have noticed Lynn’s disappearance.
Presumably, the vampire had used a mental illusion on them as well.
At his feet, dozens of yellow-blue mushrooms, shaped like wizard’s pointed hats, had appeared sometime.
These mushrooms emitted a faint white glow, seemingly having a hypnotic effect.
Just looking at these mushrooms made Lynn, whose Charisma was already nine points, feel drowsy.
Lynn quickly collected the moon dust fungus into the glass jar he had prepared.
“Lynn, did you find the moon dust fungus?”
The Monk was the first to spot the jar full of mushrooms in Lynn’s hand and walked over to ask.
“Mm.”
Lynn shook the glass jar in his hand.
Lupa then asked with some surprise,
“Where did this gold candelabra come from? Lynn, you didn’t actually...”
This was the Graveyard, and the burial goods within were countless.
It was only natural for Lupa to be suspicious when a seemingly valuable gold candelabra suddenly appeared in Lynn’s hand.
However, Lynn certainly wouldn’t admit to such slander.
He covered his faintly itching chest.
After all, this gold candelabra was something he had earned through hard, respectable work.
With the moon dust fungus acquired, Lynn had no intention of staying longer.
As for the vampire girl’s promise to help him hunt a magical beast, Lynn planned to make the most of it.
He would find a magical beast of at least Tier 3 or Tier 4 before asking the vampire for help.
It was time to turn in the quest.
Lynn stretched,
the commission that had kept him busy all night had finally come to an end.
On the horizon, the autumn sun had already peeked out, and a cool morning breeze swept through the grass, bringing the unique crisp scent of earth and plants to the group.
This scent reminded Lynn of Sarah.
Next door, in the Public Cemetery, something sizzled.
It was the bones tainted with fel energy (negative psionic energy) left behind after the skeletons fell apart, being purified by the sunlight.
