Chapter 69 · Volume 1

Agility Feat and Battling the Psionic Corpse

Three bloodlines were lit up in succession, and a powerful burning sensation welled up within his body.
However, the Psionic Corpse was still held back by the skeletons on the field and could not take the opportunity to attack Lynn.
The burning sensation lasted for about half a minute before slowly fading away.
Following this, Lynn's attributes underwent a massive change.
【Skeleton: Poison Resistance Lv.2 (Passive)】
【Skeleton Soldier: Charisma +1】
【Dungeon Skeleton: Constitution +1, Agility +2, Skeleton Construct Lv.1, Infinite Momentum Lv.1 (Passive)】
His Constitution had reached twelve points, and his Agility had risen directly to eleven points, meeting the requirement to acquire a Feat.
The blurry concept appeared in his mind once more, urging Lynn to choose a new Feat.
Agility Feat Options—
【Vanguard】: An adventurer brave enough to charge will not die to a siege. When you are surrounded by three or more enemies, you gain a three-point bonus to your Agility attribute.
【Ambusher】: You are a despicable ambusher. When a creature is struck by you while unaware, their status effect resistance is reduced for three seconds.
【Mage Slayer】: Spellcasters (creatures whose primary attribute is Intelligence or Charisma) hit by your melee attacks will be silenced for 0.5 seconds, unable to use any spells or psionic energy. This also applies to triggered spells, though the duration is reduced by 80%.
Lynn did not hesitate much and chose 【Mage Slayer】 directly.
Actually, the effect of 【Vanguard】 was also very powerful.
It was just that against the upcoming Psionic Corpse, it would be almost useless.
As for 【Ambusher】, it could synergize with 【Backstab】 and actually had some utility.
However, as a Feat, its numbers were not high, and it required other skills that could inflict status effects to support it, making its cost-effectiveness too low.
【Mage Slayer】 was different. This Feat was practically custom-made to deal with monsters like the Psionic Corpse.
To be honest, Lynn was slightly surprised when he saw this Feat.
How could such a Feat exist in this world?
It seemed somewhat targeted toward Mages.
The most exaggerated part was that this Feat could even counter triggered magic.
According to 《An Introduction to Spells》 given to him by Teacher Gray, triggered magic, as the name implied, was a spell that automatically activated upon being hit. This was an important life-saving measure for Mages at higher levels.
Yet, it was actually countered by a Feat. Even though it only delayed the activation by 0.1 seconds, for a Mage with poor Constitution, 0.1 seconds was already dangerous enough.
He just didn't know how rare this Feat was.
But thinking about it, it should be relatively uncommon.
Otherwise, if this Feat were common, Mages probably wouldn't enjoy their current status.
Having acquired the 【Mage Slayer】 Feat, Lynn felt a bit more confident about subjugating the Psionic Corpse.
Returning his consciousness to reality, only a handful of skeletons remained on the field.
The Psionic Corpse had already condensed its second psionic fire.
However, under the wanton destruction of the skeletons by Lynn's trio, the number of skeletons was nearly half of what the Psionic Corpse had expected.
As a result, the Psionic Corpse's third psionic fire failed to condense.
The Psionic Corpse's cloudy eyes locked onto Lynn, wishing it could tear him to shreds on the spot.
Having lurked beneath this graveyard for so long, only to have these three adventurers interfere just as it was about to successfully condense three psionic fires...
A blue light flared on the Psionic Corpse's shriveled skin, and the soul fires of the last few skeletons began to converge toward it.
Once it sucked these few skeletons dry, it would kill these damned adventurers!
But by now, Lynn was already prepared for battle.
Lynn turned to Lupa and whispered, “Leave first. Don't stay here and get in our way.”
Lupa's strength was currently the weakest among the three.
Although her Strength and Constitution were sufficient, her psionic resistance was too low. Facing the Psionic Corpse's psionic blast, she would have almost no ability to resist.
If they were facing another Tier 2 monster, Lupa could still provide some combat power.
But against the Psionic Corpse, leaving her on the battlefield would likely result in her being controlled, adding unnecessary trouble for Lynn and the Monk.
Hearing Lynn's instructions, Lupa did not say much. She immediately retreated to the outskirts of the Public Cemetery, positioning herself where she could leave at any moment.
Although Lupa did not know exactly how strong the Psionic Corpse was, she had seen that Lynn's spells were almost entirely ineffective against it.
The monster before them was absolutely extraordinarily powerful.
Naturally, Lupa would not stay and hold the two of them back.
After Lupa left, Lynn and the Monk exchanged a glance.
They didn't say much, but both already roughly understood each other's intentions.
In the next second, Lynn and the Monk vanished from their spots almost simultaneously.
The Psionic Corpse's magic resistance was too high; spells were practically useless against it. They could only kill it in close combat!
A distance of over twenty meters from the Psionic Corpse took less than two seconds for two class-holders whose Agility exceeded or approached ten points.
In the blink of an eye, the distance between the two and the Psionic Corpse closed rapidly.
The Monk flipped the long staff in his hands, raising it high over his head. The white light that was extremely effective against undead creatures had already coated the iron staff.
Meanwhile, Lynn crouched low and flashed forward. In an instant, his position could no longer be tracked by the naked eye, having clearly entered Stealth.
The Psionic Corpse did not pay attention to Lynn, whose position had been lost, but instead looked at the Monk's long staff with some wariness.
Upon it was a scent that made it feel utterly disgusted...
It did not seem to be the holy light commonly used by church priests, but its nature was somewhat similar.
Both were filled with a vital energy that corpses loathed.
Under the threat of the Monk's attack, the Psionic Corpse was forced to abandon its plans to continue absorbing the soul fires. It released its control over the skeletons, preparing to deal with these blind adventurers first.
“Die...”
The Psionic Corpse lacked the ability to speak fluently, but the residual muscle memory in its corpse allowed it to barely squeeze out a few syllables.
Its withered hand pointed at the Monk, with blue psionic fire clinging to its fingers.
An invisible mental shock rapidly pierced toward the Monk.
The moment the Monk saw the Psionic Corpse move, he was already prepared to dodge. However, the gap in Agility between Tier 1 and Tier 2 made it very difficult for him to react.
Moreover, he was facing a wide-range psionic blast.
Gritting his teeth, the Monk abandoned his plan to dodge.
He prepared to brace himself and endure this psionic blast with sheer willpower, exchanging it for an opportunity to injure the Psionic Corpse.
In this battle, the Monk was not sure if he and Lynn could subjugate the Psionic Corpse, but for every bit of damage dealt to it, Lynn's chances of escaping would increase by a fraction.
But the Psionic Corpse had no intention of giving the Monk this opportunity.
It stopped its attack immediately, its entire corpse floating several dozen centimeters off the ground as it rapidly swept backward.
Bang—
The refined iron staff slammed onto the ground, instantly blowing a grave mound apart and kicking up a large cloud of dirt, but it failed to hit the Psionic Corpse.
“Hiss!”
At the same time, the Monk had been hit head-on by the psionic blast.
However, because the Psionic Corpse did not dare to clash head-on with the Monk and had cut off its subsequent psionic output, the Monk only felt his mind grow heavy with a slight, stinging pain.
Meanwhile,
Lynn saw that just as he was about to sneak up to the Psionic Corpse, the monster suddenly retreated.
He did not panic. The short sword in his hand glowed as mana flowed along the blade; Booming Blade had already been activated.
An electric current surged upward from the hilt he gripped.
Simultaneously, a light flashed beneath Lynn's feet as Burst Step took effect.
After triggering Burst Step, even with the Psionic Corpse's speed, it could not escape Lynn's attack range.
In an instant, Lynn flashed and appeared behind the Psionic Corpse.
Not daring to be careless in the slightest, a white light coated his short sword. He stacked Backstab and Booming Blade together, striving to succeed in a single blow.
Under the moonlight, the short sword appeared exceptionally cold, carrying the unique ruthlessness of metal as it stabbed straight toward the Psionic Corpse's defenseless back.
As if only just realizing Lynn's movement, the Psionic Corpse slowly turned its head.
Lynn could see that its eyes held a trace of surprise. It had clearly not expected Lynn's movements to be so swift.
But even if the Psionic Corpse had noticed Lynn's ambush, it was already too late to defend.
It hit!
Lynn felt a surge of joy in his heart.
But in the next moment,
he suddenly realized that the sensation from his short sword felt somewhat off.
It did not feel like it had stabbed into a monster's body.
Crouching low, Lynn lifted his head.
He happened to meet the Psionic Corpse's eyes.
