Before long, the receptionist who had received the report returned, leading an elderly man wearing a monocle—presumably the appraiser Loffan had mentioned.
The old man placed his hands on the gnolls' equipment and felt around for a moment. Suddenly, a blue light emanated from his monocle, enveloping the gear as if scanning it.
The Monk whispered in Lynn's ear, “That's a First-Circle spell—Identify. Once you learn that, you'll never be short on money. Usually, every time I ask an appraiser to identify equipment, it costs me fifty copper coins.”
So such a spell existed.
Lynn nodded, reflecting that it was indeed high time he learned a few more spells to prepare for the Mage class.
He just wondered how much money it would cost to learn a spell...
After about a minute or two, the blue light on the old man's monocle gradually faded. His expression turned slightly heavy as he leaned in and whispered something into Loffan's ear.
Although the old man looked grim, Loffan actually seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing the news, as if the situation wasn't particularly dire.
Or perhaps Loffan had already known about it beforehand.
After finishing his conversation with the old man, Loffan looked back at the group. “Thank you all for providing this intelligence. The Guild actually already has a few leads regarding this matter. We kindly ask that you do not spread word of this after leaving, to avoid leaking information.
“As for this equipment, it must remain at the Guild as evidence. However, rest assured—the Guild will purchase this gear from you at market price.”
So the Guild was already aware of the situation.
As for the Guild wanting to buy the equipment, Lynn and the others naturally agreed with pleasure. This saved them the trouble of running around trying to fence the loot.
Before long, the receptionist re-entered holding a cloth bag slightly larger than a fist, bulging with coins.
Their payment was in hand.
Although Lynn had contributed significantly this time, he hadn't displayed any decisive performance, so the quest reward was split equally among the four of them.
The party had killed twenty-one Giant-Winged Bats in total: one Giant-Winged Bat Leader worth three silver coins, and the rest ordinary Giant-Winged Bats with a bounty of ninety copper coins each. Combined with the five silver coins guaranteed by the Wingen Town potion shop, the total quest bounty came to twenty-six silver coins.
In addition, there were the two gold and four silver coins gifted by Hilda, as well as sixteen silver coins taken from the gnolls.
Finally, there was the lion's share of their gains—the gear stripped from the gnolls.
Leather armor crafted from monster hides, magic weapons enchanted with Runes... these were all high-demand commodities in short supply on the market...
Even though they were second-hand and partially damaged, they still commanded immense value.
Adding all the equipment together, the Guild offered a high price of twelve gold coins.
Lynn had consulted the Monk, whose original expected price had only been seven gold coins.
The extra markup was likely the Adventurers' Guild's reward for reporting the intelligence.
The only regret was the Gnoll Stalker's twin blades.
Magic weapons were normally worth far more than this.
Unfortunately, for humans to use weapons made for a Gnoll Stalker, they basically had to be melted down and recast. Once recast, the Runes engraved on them would be destroyed, losing their magical properties.
Thus, they could only be sold at the price of ordinary weapons.
However, keeping those weapons in hand was like holding a hot potato anyway, so Lynn and the others naturally had no intention of keeping them.
One must never be greedy.
Lynn felt that this bounty was already extraordinarily lucrative.
Altogether, this quest yielded a total income of one hundred and eighty-six silver coins, and Lynn received four gold, six silver, and fifty copper coins.
As for the cost of supplies like the carriage and the intercept nets, which came out to a little over four silver coins, the Monk didn't ask Lynn to pitch in.
Feeling that he hadn't contributed as much, the Monk covered these minor overhead costs himself.
Consider it spending a little money to leave a good impression on his remaining teammates.
After all, back when he had partyed with Hal and Solon, completing a commission had never yielded anywhere near this much income.
Being able to earn this bounty was largely thanks to Lynn inviting him to join the party.
Aside from these rewards, Lynn's payout for reporting the Dungeon Slime intelligence earlier had also been disbursed—a total of five silver coins.
This belonged solely to Lynn; Lupa didn't take a share of this money.
Upon receiving their earnings, everyone beamed with joy.
Even the taciturn Aguda flashed a silly smile, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth as he lost himself in thoughts of whatever delicious food he was imagining.
In just two days, earning over four gold coins...
This was something none of them had ever experienced in their adventuring careers.
Lynn's personal vault expanded significantly all at once, rising to fifty-eight silver coins plus several dozen coppers.
Rounding it up, he practically had six gold coins!
Gold Power, Tier 6!
However, he would soon have to upgrade his weapon...
I'm afraid this money won't stay warm in my hands for long.
Lynn couldn't help feeling a bit wistful.
However, that spear of his was indeed falling behind his needs.
During the battle with the gnolls, if he had been using that spear, he wouldn't have been able to kill them so easily.
As for the fine leather armor they wore, Lynn tested it afterward—to pierce through that leather armor with a spear worth two silver and fifty copper coins required every ounce of his strength.
In battle, this would undoubtedly drain his stamina significantly.
To ensure future quests went smoothly, replacing his weapon was an absolute necessity.
Hopefully, with these gold coins, he could score a weapon of high enough quality from Old Henry on Blackstone Street!
Having collected his reward, Lynn didn't rush to leave. Instead, he stayed by the quest board to check out the remaining commissions.
Seeing Lynn eagerly browsing for a new commission right after returning from a quest, the Monk beside him looked utterly shocked.
It was his first time meeting someone as "diligent" as Lynn.
This guy...
Is he really human!?
The Monk felt that Lynn's boundless energy could practically rival undead creatures like ghastly specters or zombies.
Yet, as an adventurer far older in both age and experience than Lynn, the Monk felt it was his duty to offer a word of advice to this newcomer:
“As an adventurer, you need to balance work and rest. Going too long without resting can mess with your condition and land you in dangerous situations. No matter how talented you are, Lynn, you should be more cautious.”
The Monk spoke earnestly.
Lynn gave the Monk a slightly surprised look, then chuckled. “I'll keep that in mind. Right now, I'm just checking if there are any suitable quests so I can accept one and do it tomorrow.”
The Monk felt somewhat helpless.
He could tell that Lynn hadn't taken his words to heart at all.
Ordinarily, after finishing a commission, adventurers would rest for three or four days before heading out again.
When it came to Lynn, however, as long as he had spare time, he was actively looking to cause trouble for monsters!
