Chapter 30 · Volume 1

Class Requirements, Attribute Boosts

A new function?
Lynn was somewhat surprised.
He hadn't expected that all those previous cheat-like features weren't even the complete form of the identification manual.
“Monster Identification Manual, let me see your limits!”
Lynn opened the manual. On the first page of the character status panel, the class column was shining brightly.
【Class: None*】
Although it still displayed “None,” an asterisk had appeared behind it.
Lynn focused his mind on it.
Densely packed information unfolded before his eyes—
【Current High-Compatibility Classes】 (Due to page limits of the identification manual, only two are currently displayed)
【Assassin】
【Advancement Criteria】: Perception attribute ≥ 10, Strength and Agility attributes ≥ 8, 「Stealth」 at Lv. 4 or above, 「Kidney Strike」 or 「Assassinate」 at Lv. 5 or above
【Class Growth Potential】: Displayed after meeting one advancement criterion
【Mage】
【Advancement Criteria】: Intelligence ≥ 10, Charisma ≥ 8, with Intelligence > Charisma; any three spells practiced to Lv. 2 or above, and any single spell practiced to Lv. 5 or above
【Class Growth Potential】: Displayed after meeting one advancement criterion
Locked Classes: 【Rogue】, 【Sorcerer】, 【Unknown Class】
...
Holy cow!
Lynn had only been thinking to himself how nice it would be if the 《Monster Identification Manual》 could list the advancement criteria for classes.
As it turned out, the manual had actually updated to include this exact function!
“Could you also let me allocate attribute points while you're at it?” Lynn thought greedily.
Unfortunately, the 《Monster Identification Manual》 gave no response.
However, just being able to display the advancement criteria was already incredibly overpowered!
Class-holders like Damon didn't actually know the exact criteria for advancement.
They merely made educated guesses based on the states of various people when they condensed their classes over the years.
Now, Lynn could directly see all the required criteria to obtain a class.
Frankly speaking, no one in this world understood how to condense a class better than him!
He just didn't know what that “Unknown Class” in the locked classes section was.
Could it be a hidden class that combined the advantages and characteristics of both an Assassin and a Rogue, just as he had speculated?
Although Lynn had many questions, his excitement only grew.
Having a clear goal gave him the feeling that every step forward would yield a corresponding reward.
According to the manual's description, there should be two ways to unlock these locked classes.
One was to increase his compatibility with those classes, as the manual currently only listed the two classes most compatible with him.
This method was somewhat difficult.
After all, if he didn't even know the advancement criteria for those classes, how could he increase his compatibility?
The other way was to increase the page count of the 《Monster Identification Manual》!
This method was very straightforward: he just had to encounter more monsters and unlock more bloodline trees!
Lynn's adventurer spirit began to stir once again.
Conveniently, he hadn't taken on any commissions for several days.
At this thought, another issue crossed Lynn's mind.
His current savings didn't look very promising.
Lynn quickly opened his personal vault and counted the remaining assets in his pouch.
The silver and copper coins clinked together, making a pleasant sound.
However, the sound was a bit sparse.
Well...
After four days of “squandering,” he only had seven silver coins and a few dozen copper coins left!
But in reality, it couldn't really be called squandering, since almost all of Lynn's expenses went toward food.
Just like the meal he had just eaten, it cost him over three silver coins! That price was enough to buy an iron spear.
Meat in this world was truly expensive!
But in Lynn's view, as an adventurer, one must never be stingy when it came to food.
Humans had to eat meat to grow stronger and smarter.
Moreover, the gains from getting sufficient nutrition were very real.
Lynn looked at his attribute panel—
【Strength: 6+1】
【Constitution: 5】
【Agility: 5+1】
After eating a massive amount, his Strength had risen from 6 to 7 points, and his Agility had also risen from 5 to 6 points.
Lynn felt that this level of attribute increase might be related to the increase in his Skill proficiency.
Ever since his Skill levels increased, he had felt a constant sense of depletion in his body.
It was as if the volume of his “body” container had expanded, but lacked enough contents to fill it.
For adventurers in this world to reach the attribute standards of class-holders, they needed day-and-night training on one hand, and on the other, raising their Skill proficiency probably fed back into their bodies to improve their attributes.
However, after ordinary people expanded their containers by practicing Skills, they might need to spend a massive amount of time to make up for the deficit in contents.
Lynn, on the other hand, thanks to the passive effect of Rapid Digestion, could quickly fill this deficit and achieve the effect of rapidly increasing his attributes!
Today, his 「Stealth」 and 「Backstab」 Skills had leveled up one after another, so Lynn had gained one point of Agility and one point of Strength respectively.
As expected of the slime bloodline; every single Skill was so useful!
There were simply too many things to do next.
Lynn hadn't expected that receiving guidance from a class-holder would bring him such massive gains.
Next, he needed to acquire Bloodline Points to unlock bloodlines.
He also had to subjugate new monsters to unlock Rune rewards and new bloodline trees, thereby obtaining the advancement criteria for more classes.
To advance to a Mage, he also needed to learn new magic...
There were quite a few things he needed to do if he wanted to continue growing stronger.
But this was a happy sort of trouble!
...
The next day, with his excitement still lingering, Lynn woke up early.
Today, he was definitely going to take on a suitable quest!
Before the early morning mist had even dissipated, Lynn arrived at the Adventurers' Guild.
Standing before the corkboard plastered with various quest commissions, Lynn began selecting a quest once again.
Because he had arrived early enough, even the highly sought-after commissions targeting goblins on the board had many left untaken.
But Lynn didn't even spare them a glance.
His mind was currently consumed by thoughts of the “Unknown Class,” so even the pending “Goblin Champion” and “Goblin Priest” bloodlines were pushed to the back of his mind.
Primarily, activating a new goblin bloodline would require at least 21 Bloodline Points.
This amount, if he didn't encounter any mutated goblins, would take at least two quests to acquire.
In comparison, subjugating new monsters was clearly a much more cost-effective choice.
Besides, not taking on a commission didn't mean he couldn't acquire goblin Bloodline Points.
Goblins were as common in the wild as stray dogs on the street. He could easily run into them just by walking a short distance into the wilderness off the main roads.
When the time came, he could easily deal with them along the way.
Today, his goal was other monsters with a Challenge Rating below one.
However, he hadn't decided on the specific monster yet.
Skipping time-consuming escort quests as was his custom, Lynn had originally planned to accept a simpler gathering quest this time, earning some extra cash on the side while subjugating monsters.
However, he was informed by the receptionist that a newly promoted White Iron Rank adventurer like himself was not allowed to accept multiple quests at the same time.
He had to complete five commissions before unlocking the privilege to accept multiple commissions simultaneously.
This rule was also to prevent overconfident, boastful fools from taking on a massive number of quests, only to meet with disaster on their very first commission and end up in a monster's stomach, causing unnecessary trouble for the guild.
Standing in front of the commission board, Lynn was truly at a loss.
The variety of monsters was dazzling!
But monsters with a Challenge Rating below one were extremely few and far between.
