Lin Gui had once told Elvia that he was the only survivor of the Spark Revolution.
Technically speaking, that wasn't quite true.
At the time, he hadn't found Sivir.
As for whether she was dead or alive, Lin Gui couldn't be certain.
There were also those traitors of Spark, the ones sent to Dawn City for negotiations.
They had subsequently been subjected to a purge by the nobles.
However, a few had survived.
Lin Gui had found the corpses of others in the trash heaps, and the numbers didn't quite add up.
The core members hadn't been found, including Pips.
Presumably, he had been recruited through amnesty and participated in the subsequent purge of everyone related to the Spark Revolution.
Sivir's name had always been a secret of the Spark Revolution.
To the outside world, everyone called her the little fox-girl.
Yet the flyer had her name written on it plain as day.
It seemed Pips had even sold out information about Sivir.
Lin Gui gripped the flyer, a cold sneer curling his lips.
A clumsy trap.
The Ignition spell in his hand was triggered instantly, and the flyer burned to ash. A few sparks flickered in the darkness before vanishing without a trace.
Lin Gui's eyes went cold as he turned to head upstairs.
The wooden stairs emitted a faint creak beneath his feet, neither fast nor slow, but the sound was clear in the silent night.
His face remained expressionless, but his knuckles were turning slightly red as he gripped the railing.
After calming his racing emotions, Lin Gui reached the door of the second-floor bedroom in the post office. He placed his hand on the handle and then paused.
He looked down, his gaze falling on the edge of the door frame.
A strand of extremely fine spider silk was caught there. It was grayish-white and nearly invisible in the dim light.
This wasn't magic; there were no mana fluctuations whatsoever. It relied entirely on a physical trigger.
Even if a Title Rank expert came along, unless they were intentionally staring at the door crack, they wouldn't notice it.
Experienced assassins, however, would.
After all, this was their bread and butter.
Lin Gui slowly crouched down and stared at the spider silk.
It was broken.
It hadn't snapped naturally; it had been broken by something passing through.
Someone had entered his room.
It happened during the time he was downstairs collecting the mail.
Mana perception could not penetrate physical barriers to investigate the interior, so Lin Gui had no idea what the situation inside his room was like.
He stood up, his mind rapidly cycling through possibilities.
A thief coming to steal things?
There were certainly many such characters in the slums of Whitecliff City.
But to sneak into the second floor of the post office without being noticed by the customers downstairs wasn't exactly the work of an ordinary thief.
Or, had the Dalton family gone back on their word and decided to strike first?
That Knight Commander Victor had left quite decisively during the day, but who knew if he would return with a different face at night.
Or perhaps it was an unknown power planning to deal with him?
Lin Gui thought of the flyer he had just received, and his eyes turned icy.
The Shroud of the Gloomy Night instantly concealed all his vital signs.
The Staff of the Windwhisperer appeared in his palm, its azure-green shaft shimmering faintly in the darkness.
He began to chant in a low voice, the incantation for Flame Enchantment flowing between his teeth.
Seven layers of magic circles were instantly constructed at the top of the staff, stacked one upon another, emitting a pale green glow.
Seven Flame Blades burning with fire emerged from the circles, their translucent blades wrapped in a layer of crimson as the flames flickered.
Every single one was enough to burn any creature below the Transcendent rank to ash.
Lin Gui took two steps back, aimed the staff at the door, and cast Levitation with his left hand.
The doorknob slowly turned on its own.
Creak—
The door opened.
Lin Gui didn't rush inside. He sent his perception in first, and then a ripple was caught by him.
It was a High-tier High Rank.
That power level made him pause.
He had thought the intruder would at least be a Transcendent, considering he himself was a High-tier High Rank.
To hide and wait to deal with him, they would need to either crush him with superior strength or superior numbers.
As it turned out, there was only one High-tier High Rank inside.
The staff followed his perception, eventually aiming at his bed.
Just as he intended to send the other party to the afterlife, moonlight spilled through the window, illuminating the bulging silhouette beneath the blanket.
He saw several strands of long golden hair scattered across the pillow.
He also saw the familiar curves traced by the blanket.
Lin Gui was stunned.
The magic circles dissipated layer by layer, and the Flame Blades vanished as sparks in the air. The staff was lowered.
After staring intently under the moonlight for a moment, Lin Gui said with a strange expression:
"Why is it this girl?"
He walked into the room, reached the bedside, and pulled back the blanket.
Then he quickly covered her back up, a flash of awkwardness crossing his face.
Taking a deep breath, he stood by the bed and stared at the delicate face exposed outside the blanket.
Her golden eyelashes trembled slightly, and her breathing was steady; she was sound asleep.
A few faint snores drifted from her.
Lin Gui reached out and slapped her cheek.
"Wake up."
No reaction.
Another slap, heavier than the first.
"Elvia."
Still no reaction.
Lin Gui's mouth twitched, and he simply reached out to pinch her nose.
Elvia's eyelashes fluttered, and she opened her eyes groggily.
Then she sat up abruptly.
The blanket slid down, exposing a flash of flesh.
Lin Gui's Levitation instantly reinforced itself, snapping the sliding blanket back up to cover her and tightly hiding the things that shouldn't be seen.
Elvia stared at him blankly, her eyes still a bit dazed.
Once she saw clearly who was standing there, Elvia gave him a dirty look, gripped the blanket, and collapsed back onto the bed.
Lin Gui's face darkened.
With a wave of his hand, he cast Freezing and Water Generation simultaneously. A block of ice emitting cold air coalesced in his palm.
He was just about to shove it under the blanket.
Feeling the spreading chill, Elvia opened her eyes.
When she saw several blocks of ice above her, her sleepiness vanished instantly. She hurriedly called out to stop him:
"Wait! What are you trying to do?"
Lin Gui said coldly, "Helping you wake up."
Elvia waved her hands frantically. "I'm awake! I'm wide awake now!"
Seeing that Elvia was fully conscious, Lin Gui looked at her and asked:
"Aren't you supposed to be heading to the City of a Thousand Towers with Monica and the others? Why are you here?"
Elvia remained silent for a long time after hearing the question.
If it weren't for her eyes being open, Lin Gui would have thought she had fallen back asleep.
Staring at the ceiling, Elvia let out a sigh, then peeled back a corner of the blanket and patted the bed.
"Come inside first, and I'll tell you."
Lin Gui's mouth twitched.
Looking at that exposed bit of skin, he grumbled:
"Come inside? Do you have any f***ing idea what you look like right now? You want me to 'come inside' and talk?"
Elvia rolled her eyes at him wordlessly.
"I did it on purpose. I washed up specifically for you and have been waiting in bed."
"Huh? Why would you do that?"
Elvia looked at him and said with exasperation:
"Why? I've already done this much, and you still don't know why?"
"To sign the Shared-Death Contract with you, of course."
"Hurry up and take me before I change my mind."
"Tie me to your sinking ship."
"I'm dying of exhaustion right now, so please hurry up and make it quick."
"Oh, and remember to sign this."
Elvia pulled a document from under her pillow and handed it to Lin Gui.
Lin Gui took it and looked at it.
The title of the document was—
Prenuptial Agreement???
