Elvia Rolan
Lin Gui looked up, only to be met with Elvia's dazzling, captivating smile.
Her golden hair shimmered under the sunlight.
Her molten-gold eyes held the perfect blend of approachability and majesty.
He froze slightly, his gaze losing focus for a brief moment.
It was as if he had been blinded by her overly brilliant smile.
He quickly suppressed the long-awaited expectation in his eyes.
He returned to his usual expression, calm and unperturbed.
He raised his finger and pointed to the winding, endless queue outside the post office.
His voice was as flat as if he were merely commenting on the pleasant weather.
“Please queue up, thank you.”
The impeccable smile on Elvia's face froze.
Following Lin Gui's finger, she turned her head to look outside.
The commoners who had been curiously peering in and whispering among themselves instantly felt as if ice water had been poured over them the moment they met the princess's gaze, breaking out in cold sweat.
Like a crowd parted by an invisible blade, they scrambled to the sides in a panic.
The once-packed queue cleared out completely within a few breaths!
The smile on Elvia's face became natural once again.
She took an elegant step to the right, stepping precisely into the spot where the first person in line had been standing.
“Now.”
She raised her chin slightly, her smile flawless.
“Can you hear out my request now, Messenger Mage from New Covenant City?”
By the entrance of the post office, right next to a commoner's head that was curiously peeking in, another face poked out—this one with white hair, crimson eyes, and sharp, nimble elven ears.
Theia frowned, her crimson eyes like those of a highly alert predator, locking her gaze firmly onto this uninvited member of the royal family.
“Recipient's name, address, and physical description.”
Lin Gui lowered his gaze and picked up a quill, asking in a businesslike tone.
As if the person before him was just an ordinary customer.
The princess smiled softly, parting her red lips to rattle off a stream of information fluently.
“Carter Royal Capital, Rebel Leader, Caesar.”
“The address is the ‘Dice and Blood’ underground casino.”
“As for his appearance... a vagrant with one eye blinded and one leg broken.”
Lin Gui's hand holding the quill paused. He looked up, frowning at her.
Then, he held out his hand, his tone remaining flat and indifferent.
“Pay up.”
Elvia was clearly taken aback.
She had anticipated all sorts of reactions from him.
Shock, fear, refusal, or even an immediate hostile outburst.
The only thing she hadn't expected was those two simple, businesslike words.
It felt like throwing a full-force punch into empty air, leaving her chest feeling tight.
She quickly recovered, covering her lips with her silk-gloved hand as she let out a ladylike chuckle.
“Haha, of course I'm just joking. As a member of the royal family, how could I possibly be in contact with a rebel leader?”
She leaned forward slightly, lowering her voice with a hint of ambiguous temptation.
“Actually, rather than sending a letter, I would much prefer to have an intimate chat with Mage Lin Gui... just the two of us, in a romantic, candlelit restaurant.”
“Crack!”
At the doorway, Theia unconsciously exerted force with her left hand.
The hardwood doorframe was actually crushed in her grip!
Wood chips showered down.
Lin Gui acted as if he hadn't heard the sound.
He simply raised his hand, making a clear gesture of refusal.
“My apologies, I am busy and have no time.”
The smile on the princess's face froze once again, the corner of her eye twitching uncontrollably.
She glanced out of the corner of her eye toward the street outside.
The commoners, though not daring to approach, were still crane-necking to peer inside.
Suppressing her anger, she suddenly leaned forward, almost pressing against Lin Gui's ear, and spoke in a soft yet cold whisper that only the two of them could hear:
“I know what you did in the Black Demon Forest. If you don't want to die, I suggest you do as I say~”
With that, she sat back elegantly.
Her face softened once more, as if the threat she had just uttered was merely a lover's whisper.
“How about it?”
Lin Gui acted as if he hadn't heard her.
He simply organized the scattered letters on his desk, showing absolutely no intention of paying her any attention.
Just as the smile on the princess's face was about to crumble, Lin Gui spoke.
“Are you planning to call that Legendary Knight back?”
He paused, finally raising his eyes.
His gaze swept over the princess's alluring figure, carrying an undisguised look of scrutiny.
“Relying on your... well, High-tier High Rank strength?”
“Do you have the confidence to traverse the entire wilderness and call that order of knights back?”
The smile on the princess's face vanished completely.
Since he dared to show his face again, he was clearly prepared.
She clenched her fists, her nails digging deep into her palms, squeezing her words through gritted teeth:
“As the City Lord of Caran, I have the authority to deploy the Defense Force to arrest you! Even without evidence!”
Lin Gui responded with a sneer, his laugh dripping with cold irony.
Her reaction was exactly as he had anticipated, and it actually brought him a sense of relief.
“See, you so-called noble and supreme elites always love doing things this way.”
“Coincidentally, I am the same kind of person as you.”
“I don't need to determine whether you are good or evil either.”
“The moment you order my arrest...”
Before his words could fully land, a tangible, icy killing intent, sharp as an arrow, instantly locked onto the princess's forehead from Theia's direction at the doorway!
The princess felt a sudden chill at the back of her neck, as if she would be completely pierced through in the very next second!
Lin Gui's voice continued to ring out flatly, yet it carried an unquestionable cruelty:
“...Theia's arrow will pierce right through your skull, sending you to host that candlelit party you wanted with the previous City Lord.”
“Are you not afraid that the Royal Capital Knights will turn on you for this?!”
The princess's voice grew slightly shrill with shock and anger.
Lin Gui looked as if he had heard an amusing joke, the corner of his lips curling into a cold arc.
“Setting aside whether you could even make that happen...”
“Even if you could.”
He paused, a chilling indifference emanating from him.
“Do you think I would be afraid?”
He stared at the princess.
Deep within those eyes, which usually appeared dull or even somewhat world-weary, a heart-stopping darkness and madness were churning.
He spoke in an extremely cold, quiet whisper:
“Please do not test my patience.”
“I do not hold a single shred of goodwill toward royalty or nobility.”
“In fact, every day when I pass by the slums, all I can think about is how to twist the heads off you fat, gluttonous pigs who gorge yourselves on the wealth of the people, and feed them to the swine along with some dung.”
Such filthy, violent, and treasonous words, spoken in such a calm, measured tone, created an incredibly terrifying contrast.
Elvia's face turned instantly pale, and she even took half a step back subconsciously.
It was as if the person sitting before her was not a mage, but a human-skinned beast from the abyss.
Lin Gui suddenly leaned back, his terrifying aura instantly vanishing as he reverted to his usual, lazy self.
He even reached out, gently patting the back of the princess's stiff hand, which still maintained a faint, forced smile.
His movement was as gentle as comforting a startled little animal.
“So...”
His voice softened as well.
“...let's live in peace and have absolutely nothing to do with each other, alright?”
“By the way... the scenery along the way from the Royal Capital to Caran City must have left a deep impression on you, right?”
“?”
