Chapter 242 · Volume 1

Crossing the Wailing Corridor Again

It was the moment right before the flying vessel was about to plunge into the mist.
Morpheus tossed several crystal vials filled with a dark golden liquid to Lin Gui and Eve.
Lin Gui caught them and looked, slightly surprised.
“An ‘Iron Elixir’ to resist mental pollution?”
“The kind circulated in the City of Bounties.”
Morpheus nodded.
“We provided them.”
“Though the ones sold to them are diluted, inferior versions with much weaker effects.”
Holding the cold vial, Lin Gui grew even more puzzled.
“You... provide them with potions to enter the wall?”
“Why?”
Morpheus answered bluntly:
“To make money.”
“Inside Avalon, we indeed don't use coins for transactions.”
“But we are too small, and our resources are barren.”
“Many necessities, such as high-grade potion ingredients, rare crop seeds, and special metals... must be purchased from the outside.”
“In the past, Hannah and Roger were mainly in charge of these procurements.”
“But they...”
His voice grew heavy.
“...have been out of contact for over a month.”
Lin Gui handed the vial to Eve and said casually:
“I saw them in Blackwater City before I entered Avalon.”
“What?!”
Before his words could settle, the atmosphere on the flying vessel shifted abruptly.
Morpheus leaned forward, asking in quick succession:
“Where are they? How are they doing?”
Kilian and Ruger, who were bound to the sides, also cast anxious glances immediately.
Lin Gui did not hide anything and briefly recounted the encounter outside the Blackwater Cathedral.
Roger and Hannah had been tracking the Demon Hunter Cass, hoping to find clues about Gusion.
Upon hearing this, the previously excited group fell silent.
“Cass... as expected, it was that Demon Hunter Cass.”
Hugh's voice came from the side, cold.
“Sigh,” Ruger sighed. “I didn't expect him to still catch up with Lord Gusion.”
“I remember that in the past, Lord Gusion secretly saved him countless times... Could the Lord's departure this time be because...”
“No,” Morpheus shook his head, interrupting him. “Lord Gusion didn't leave because of Cass this time.”
“He did it to deal with the Alli—”
“Cough, cough!”
Kilian coughed violently, cutting Morpheus off.
Morpheus also realized his slip of the tongue and immediately shut his mouth.
But the word “Alliance” had already clearly entered Lin Gui's ears.
The Alliance?
Lin Gui's heart stirred, and he immediately associated it with the proposal that was about to be voted on at the end of the year.
The proposal to officially classify half-demons as an “evil race” and carry out a comprehensive purge.
Thoughts spun rapidly in his mind.
Could it be... that to banish or even eradicate the half-demons, the Alliance was planning to launch an expedition against Avalon?
But that made no sense.
The vast distance was one thing.
But the terror of the Wall of Sighs and the Wailing Corridor alone was enough to bury any army.
Even if the Alliance's strongest Black Dragon Army came, they would probably be completely wiped out.
In terms of the number of Title Rank experts, the Black Dragon Army might slightly outnumber those in the Wailing Corridor.
But here, they were all spectral demons—truly undefeated demons.
Furthermore, within the Alliance, the research on souls stopped at Transcendent Rank Soul Magic.
To actually strike those invisible demons was nearly impossible.
The only option was to catch the fleeting moment when they revealed themselves to attack.
Otherwise, only Soul Magic would be effective.
To Epic-tier spectral demons, Transcendent Rank magic was completely useless.
Even calling it a mere tickle was an overstatement.
While contemplating, Lin Gui locked his gaze firmly onto the mist ahead.
A gray light swirled in his eyes as he silently activated the 【Eyes of the Netherworld】.
His vision changed abruptly.
The grayish-white mist faded, revealing countless twisting, writhing spectral light clusters.
They took various shapes, emitting bone-chilling, heart-palpitating fluctuations.
Several particularly massive, mountain-like dark red outlines moved slowly in the distance.
Those were the soul projections of Epic demons.
They seemed to have detected this penetrating “gaze.”
A few of the giant outlines paused slightly.
Their “gaze” swept past this direction, faint and fleeting.
Fortunately, nothing happened.
Perhaps it was because the chase from a few days ago had not truly angered them.
Or perhaps the “scent” of Lin Gui's soul was simply too “weak.”
These terrifying “gazes” did not linger.
They quickly shifted away.
But the trouble was not over.
The several Legendaries strapped to the exterior of the flying vessel were currently in the vision of the Eyes of the Netherworld.
They were like three blazing bonfires!
Against the dark, deathly silent background of souls, they were blindingly bright.
To spectral demons, this was an irresistible “delicacy.”
A few nearby High-tier Legendary spectral demons began to grow restless.
Their invisible bodies condensed and churned in the mist.
Revealing hideous outlines, they slowly “drifted” toward the flying vessel.
And even deeper inside.
There lay that familiar domain coiled with countless crimson, thorn-like soul threads—the territory of Blood-Thorn.
It actually began to contract inward at this moment.
Blood-Thorn, that Low-tier Epic “gatekeeper,” seemed to have sensed the subtle shift in the situation.
It... actively retreated.
It was powerful, enough to destroy the Carter Royal Capital single-handedly.
But compared to the few true “Apexes” deep within the corridor, it was vastly outnumbered and outmatched.
And those Apexes also began to watch the movements of Lin Gui's little vessel.
Perhaps it was because of Lin Gui's eyes.
Or perhaps it was because of the three Legendaries tied to the flying vessel.
Their radiating energy fluctuations had drawn their attention.
In short, those entities saw him and took a deep interest in him.
They began to move their massive, illusory bodies, drifting toward Lin Gui.
Blood-Thorn sensed their intentions, so it chose to yield.
It silently gave up its own territory.
Lin Gui did not move.
The flying vessel hovered at the edge of the mist, eerily quiet.
This abnormal standoff caused doubts to rise in the hearts of Morpheus and the others.
Morpheus thought Lin Gui did not recognize the route marked by the Demon King Pillar.
He was just about to speak up and remind him.
“Shh.”
Lin Gui raised a finger, keeping his voice extremely low.
“Quiet.”
“Hold tightly onto the handrails.”
Hearing this, Eve wrapped her arms even tighter behind him.
Lin Gui closed his eyes slightly, took a deep breath, and spoke in a low voice as if talking to himself:
“In a moment...”
“I will break through in a straight line at a speed that exceeds the limits of a High-tier Epic assassin.”
“Do not resist, and do not move around.”
“If you don't want to die...”
“...hold on tight!”
“Let's cross the Wailing Corridor!!”
His voice had barely faded.
His right hand slammed heavily onto a bright red rune on the control panel.
【Wind Pressure Cannon: Activated】
“Buzz————————!!!!”
Ruger and the others tied to the exterior of the flying vessel didn't even have time to cry out.
Their voices were instantly drowned out by the sound of the wind pressure cannon activating!
An unimaginable, violent thrust erupted from the rear of the flying vessel!
It wasn't just sound.
It was a terrifying shockwave formed by the extreme compression and instantaneous explosion of air!
A piercing shriek tore through the silence of the mist.
The space in front of the flying vessel seemed to warp.
The next instant arrived.
The entire flying vessel, along with everyone bound to it, transformed.
They turned into an out-of-control flying sword.
It moved in an almost brutal fashion.
It crashed straight into the thick, grayish-white sea of fog of the Wailing Corridor!
