A cool and bizarre power instantly surged into his eyes.
The world presented a completely different sight in his eyes.
He looked at Elvia.
Within her silhouette, he saw a pale blue, form-fitting light-shadow fluctuating violently.
It displayed the sheer panic deep within her soul.
He could even glimpse the insects in the corners of the mine, their soul-lights as faint as dust and practically negligible.
He could also see faint, wispy blue threads extending from Holy Saintess Eve into the distance.
Lin Gui looked at the Holy Saintess in astonishment.
Unlike the humanoid souls of Elvia and Theia, half of Eve's soul was missing where her heart should be.
Elvia's panicked voice interrupted Lin Gui.
She gripped Lin Gui tightly, speaking so fast she was almost incoherent.
“Run, right now! Lin Gui! If it really is that guy... we will absolutely die! There's no chance of survival!”
“That guy? Who on earth is it?”
Theia was also startled by Elvia's unprecedented loss of composure and hurriedly pressed for answers.
Elvia took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
But her voice still trembled uncontrollably, and every word carried a chilling dread.
“A High-tier Legendary assassin! There is only one in the entire Royal Capital!”
“Count Caleb, the strongest of the Four Pillars!”
As if trying to convince Lin Gui of the severity of the situation, she rapidly listed his deeds.
“There are records of one hundred and twenty-eight members of the royal family, both direct and collateral branches, dying by his hand!”
“Some were even publicly assassinated right in front of numerous guards and nobles!”
“With his support, my tyrannical and bloodthirsty second brother, Warren, has hands stained with the blood of high nobles to this day, yet he remains at large, and no one dares to touch him!”
“Do you know what that means?!”
Her eyes were filled with a dread rooted deep in the vortex of power.
It was the most instinctive reaction to a force that absolutely could not be resisted.
“The previous Pillar, the strongest supporter of the First Prince, a Mid-tier Legendary knight famous for his defense named Mosang... was killed by him.”
“Just one strike! With a single blow, he pierced Knight Mosang's Legendary protective qi and full plate armor, slitting his throat!”
“Since then, no one in the entire Royal Capital has dared to look Warren in the eye, let alone offend Caleb behind him!”
“Even my royal father, the King of Carter!”
She turned to Lin Gui, her tone bordering on pleading.
“Lin Gui, that's a High-tier Legendary! He is simply not on the same level as us. Let's run!”
Hearing Elvia's fear-laden explanation, Theia's expression darkened completely.
Although she did not understand the power struggles of the Royal Capital, she had the clearest understanding of the disparity in strength.
She grabbed Lin Gui's other arm, her voice solemn.
“Lin Gui, Elvia is right.”
“A High-tier Legendary... This is no longer an opponent we can face! Let's go!”
Faced with their urgent persuasion, Lin Gui showed no signs of panic.
He gently shook off their hands, his calm gaze sweeping across the dim mine as if he were sensing something.
“You two leave first,” he said in an unquestionable tone.
“What?!” Elvia and Theia exclaimed at the same time.
“Are you crazy?! You'll die!” Elvia said anxiously.
“Lin Gui! Let's go together!” Theia also tightly grabbed his sleeve.
Looking at them, Lin Gui actually smiled, a calm in his expression that they could not comprehend.
“I've known for a while that the opponent is a High-tier Legendary. Don't worry, they won't make a move on me.”
Theia froze, recalling what she had heard while lurking above Caesar's head earlier.
“Because of that mysterious person's promise?”
“Yes,” Lin Gui nodded.
“His target is to kill the Saintess, and he made it clear from the very beginning that he wouldn't touch me.”
“If it really comes to a point where I can't handle it...” He paused, his gaze sweeping over Holy Saintess Eve, who stood quietly beside him, his tone flat yet cruel.
“I'll just have to say sorry to the Saintess.”
Hearing her name mentioned, Eve merely smiled faintly, as if they were not discussing her own life and death.
Under Lin Gui's repeated assurances and urging, Theia gritted her teeth and ultimately chose to trust his judgment.
She grabbed Elvia, who still wanted to say something.
“Let's go! Let's not hold him back here!”
Elvia looked at Lin Gui's calm face, then toward the distant, seemingly soul-devouring darkness.
Finally, she stamped her foot and was dragged away by Theia, quickly disappearing into another tunnel of the mine.
The noisy and chaotic mine finally fell completely silent.
Only Lin Gui and Holy Saintess Eve remained.
At some point, the roaring caused by the 【Soul-Slaying Blade】 as it flew around like a headless fly abruptly ceased.
It then turned into a streak of bloody light, shooting rapidly toward a certain direction outside the mine, vanishing in an instant.
Presumably, it had returned to the hands of its true master.
Lin Gui walked over to a relatively flat rock, sat down, and began to meditate to recover his mana.
Holy Saintess Eve also sat gently beside him, slightly tilting her head up to look at the cracked crevices at the top of the mine.
The golden afterglow of the setting sun poured down, forming a hazy pillar of light that happened to illuminate half of her quiet, holy face.
She took a deep breath, and the tense aura around her seemed to completely relax.
It did not seem as if she were in danger; rather, she looked as if she were enjoying a rare moment of peace.
Lin Gui keenly noticed the change in her state, feeling somewhat surprised.
“You don't seem... afraid?”
Hearing this, Eve gently turned her head to face him, the corners of her lips curving into a faint, genuine smile.
Her purple eyes looked exceptionally clear in the glow of the sunset, carrying a strange trust.
“I'm not afraid,” her voice was ethereal and calm. “Because you are here.”
Lin Gui fell silent for a moment, sitting side by side with her on the rock.
Watching the dust motes dancing in the pillar of light, he finally asked the question that had been lingering in his mind for a long time.
“Can you tell me about the prophecy now?”
Eve tilted her head, revealing a slightly playful smile.
“In such a hurry? Are you afraid that once I die, I won't be able to speak anymore?”
Lin Gui nodded honestly, looking at her with a serious gaze.
“The probability of me saving you from his hands is extremely low. So low that... it's negligible.”
“Is that so?” Eve chuckled softly, her laughter exceptionally clear in the silent mine.
“Then... how about I make a prophecy right now to see if what comes next is auspicious or ill-omened?”
Without waiting for Lin Gui's reply, she slightly closed her eyes.
She gently folded her hands in front of her, and an indescribable, faint ripple of holiness and mystery emanated from her body.
Her lips moved silently, as if communicating with some distant entity.
A few strands of pale golden hair fluttered across her forehead without any wind.
This process lasted for about ten seconds.
When she opened her eyes again, her purple eyes seemed to have galaxies swirling within them before finally returning to calm.
She looked at Lin Gui, the smile on her face becoming subtle, carrying a hint of elusive playfulness.
“The result of the prophecy is...”
She softly uttered two words that were completely out of place with the atmosphere of the life-and-death crisis before them.
“Beer, and revelry.”
