New Calendar 1453, October 19, early morning, cloudy.
What the sunlight illuminated was a disaster scene.
Wood splinters covered the large bed like the first snow of winter. A jagged hole gaped in the ceiling, and several broken load-bearing beams hung miserably in mid-air, swaying precariously.
In the center of the room, three exquisite luxury coffins lined with dark red velvet sat quietly, looking completely out of place in the dilapidated surroundings.
The innkeeper, a man with a handlebar mustache, stood at the door, still clutching a cleaning rag in his hand.
His chest heaved violently, his mustache twitching with every heavy breath, and his eyes were wide with shock.
Opposite him, Sophie stood obediently by the bed.
A few wood splinters were still stuck in her long silver hair. Her head was slightly lowered, her hands were folded in front of her, and her toes rubbed restlessly against the wooden floor.
“I’ve run this inn for thirty years!”
“Thirty years! I’ve seen drunken mercenaries smash tables, I’ve seen thieves brawl in the hallways over stolen loot, and I’ve even seen manic patients rip up floorboards in the middle of the night because their partner’s snoring was too loud!”
“Oh, my god! I can’t believe it! I swear I’m going to kick your ass with my boots!”
The owner’s face was flushed red with anger.
“But I have never seen anyone manage to headbutt a hole through the ceiling! Guest, can you explain to me what kind of siege took place here last night? Or did you secretly test-fire some new model of alchemical cannon in your room?”
The owner’s gaze swept over the three coffins on the floor, and his eyes twitched violently.
“And these things!” His finger trembled as he pointed at the coffins. “Are you planning to open a funeral parlor in my inn? Even if young people want to try something spicy for excitement, this is going way too far!”
Sophie kept her head down.
Yes, yes, you're right.
Everything the owner said was right.
What could she, a human cannonball launched in the middle of the night, possibly say in her defense?
As soon as dawn broke, the Miss Knight had headed out to handle a commission with an apologetic look in her eyes.
Leaving her all alone...
Wait, why was she alone?
Where was the culprit?
“Boss, please wait a moment. I’ll give you an explanation right away.”
Sophie raised her hand, signaling the owner to pause his lecture.
She walked quickly to a deserted corner of the hallway and then snatched the Magic Top Hat off her head.
Since Chengzhong Dino had written in the item description that it absolutely did not have surveillance, eavesdropping, or tracking functions and was perfectly safe...
Then Sophie naturally believed her.
This little hat didn't provide any attribute bonuses; it was something Chengzhong Dino had made on the spot after hearing her request.
If the creator said it had no strange functions, how could she not believe it?
Chengzhong Dino wouldn't eavesdrop, but it was also impossible for Chengzhong Dino not to eavesdrop.
The answer was naturally that the hat itself didn't have the functions, but she did.
“Stinky little sister, get out here.”
Without hesitation, Sophie thrust her right hand into the hat, which didn't look very deep.
Her arm went in all the way to her shoulder.
She rummaged around blindly in the void of the mana space.
“Got you.”
Sophie’s eyes lit up, and her fingers suddenly tightened.
“Come out!”
She yanked outward with all her might.
Accompanied by the sound of straining threads...
“Eh? E-e-eh? Elder Brother! Wait a second, I’m still eating breakfast—ya!”
A petite figure wearing a blue and black dress was forcibly dragged out of the hat by Sophie.
Chengzhong Dino was still holding half a cup of black tea in one hand and a pancake with a bite taken out of it in the other.
“Ugh...” Chengzhong Dino hung in mid-air like a pulled radish, her lip pouting piteously. “Elder Brother...”
“Finish eating first,” Sophie said expressionlessly.
Chengzhong Dino had no choice but to swallow the pancake in one gulp and then down the black tea.
Like a chipmunk, her fair, tender cheeks puffed out high.
But this act naturally failed to move Sophie in the slightest.
“Swallow it.”
“Mmph...”
Under Sophie’s unwavering, commanding gaze, Chengzhong Dino could only obediently and quickly chew.
With a loud gulp, the pancake and most of the tea were forced down into her stomach.
“Cough, cough... Elder Brother, you almost choked me to death.” Dino caught her breath, her small hand lightly patting her chest.
“Cut the crap. If a Witch chokes to death, it’s just one less pest in the world.”
Sophie grabbed the Puppet Witch by the scruff of her neck, dragging her from the hallway corner like a kitten that had done something wrong, and returned to the door of the guest room that looked like a disaster zone.
The innkeeper was standing with his hands on his hips, his chest heaving even faster than before.
He watched as Sophie returned, not only without fleeing, but also dragging a petite girl in a blue and black dress with a blue ribbon in her hair.
The owner’s handlebar mustache twitched, a flash of confusion appearing in his eyes.
Sophie didn't give the owner a chance to question them.
She let go of Chengzhong Dino’s collar and quickly pressed down on the back of the Witch’s head. Standing side-by-side, they performed a synchronized, ninety-degree bow.
“We are truly sorry!”
