“That’s wonderful. We should all get along well from now on.” Dino steadied herself and offered a sweet smile. “Seeing how reasonable Miss Knight is, I can rest easy.”
“As long as... the Witch doesn't cause any calamities,” Kaila said.
“Of course. I’m not like Miss Moon or Miss Snow,” Chengzhong Dino chuckled. “I would never harm anyone.”
It was true; compared to other nations, the curse on Veratus was at least the mildest.
Kaila thought silently to herself.
“Now, I shall first set down the items my Elder Brother requires.”
Chengzhong Dino smiled slightly, her fingers dancing in the air.
Whoosh—
The originally cramped tavern room was expanded by invisible silk threads.
“This is Elder Brother's favorite Snow Wolf Fur blanket, and a silk-blend quilt.” A heavy set of bedding, emitting a faint fragrance, was neatly folded and placed on the chair at the foot of the bed.
“And these are snacks for Elder Brother.”
The silk threads lined up a row of crystal bottles on the floor. Their surfaces shimmered with a chilling crimson luster in the dim light.
“Two bottles of pure-brewed Millennium Little Sister Blood, three bottles of Osmanthus Honey Blood Brew—considering Elder Brother occasionally likes sweets—and this bottle of... Sauce-flavored Cold Potion Blood Brew. Besides those, there are five different flavors of daily blood supplements.”
Kaila looked at the blood brews and pursed her lips.
She had almost forgotten that Sophie was a vampire. Aside from coughing up blood for her during their previous battle, she hadn't seen her drink any blood at all.
But she remained silent.
“Oh my, Miss Knight has quite the poker face,” Chengzhong Dino remarked. She pulled out a small pouch. “Here are two hundred Gold Suns I just exchanged for Elder Brother's daily expenses.”
Kaila went quiet for a moment.
That’s a lot of money...
She’s so rich...
“Little Dino will use every means possible to show her meticulous care for me, while subtly asserting her dominance. Just ignore her, Hero,” Sophie had told her earlier.
Kaila had to admit she had underestimated what “meticulous care” meant.
Two hundred Gold Suns for pocket money?
But Chengzhong Dino wasn't finished.
“This is the alchemy ritual kit Elder Brother is used to; it’s fully stocked with basic materials.”
An exquisite leather satchel was placed on the nightstand.
Then, accompanied by the dull creaking of wood, three meticulously crafted, gold-trimmed coffins with velvet linings dropped into the center of the room, completely blocking the path to the door.
“And these are three sleeping coffins made of different woods. They are all types Elder Brother likes.”
Dino clapped her hands, as if she had just finished a trivial household chore.
“Oh dear...”
After setting out the supplies, Chengzhong Dino’s gaze finally returned to the bed.
When she saw the scene before her, a flash of surprise crossed her gentle eyes, though it was quickly masked by her perfect smile.
“Miss Knight, why are you and Elder Brother all tangled up together?”
Chengzhong Dino’s tone remained calm as she looked at Sophie, who was clinging to Kaila like an octopus.
“Because of the Companion System. She needs support,” Kaila answered truthfully.
“I see... But sleeping like that, Elder Brother will wake up with a stiff neck tomorrow, won’t she? No, with Elder Brother's constitution, she definitely will.”
Dino approached the bedside as she spoke. “Could Miss Knight please put Elder Brother down?”
Kaila replied, “I refuse.”
“An excellent refusal. This is the first act of conflict,” Chengzhong Dino tilted her head. “But why?”
Kaila was silent for a moment before squeezing out a sentence: “You’ll wake her up.”
“I won’t.”
Chengzhong Dino smiled faintly.
Her fingertips tapped the air a few times.
“I only need to apply a fraction of my strength to the Chengjin point below the collarbone, then flick the Shenmen point on the wrist twice. Elder Brother will let out a little ‘Mmm...’ in her sleep and then let go obediently.”
True to her word, Chengzhong Dino’s fingertips moved like a dragonfly skimming the water, precisely poking Sophie’s collarbone and wrist.
“Mmm... ugh.”
The deep-sleeping Sophie let out a muffled, adorable mumble. Her left arm, which had been cinching Kaila’s neck like a vise, and her right leg draped over Kaila’s thigh, suddenly went limp as if the bones had been removed, sliding away.
Chengzhong Dino simply reached out and caught Sophie under the armpits.
As easily as peeling a banana, Chengzhong Dino elegantly peeled the lead-heavy Sophie completely off Kaila.
A long-awaited sense of relief instantly spread through Kaila’s body.
But in that moment, Kaila felt a strange resistance.
She looked down and realized that, at some point, her own right hand had tightly gripped the hem of Sophie’s thin nightgown.
The air froze for a second.
“My, my...”
Chengzhong Dino looked at the hand clutching the nightgown, and her smile instantly turned playful.
“Miss Knight, are you jealous?”
Kaila immediately retracted her hand.
“I am not.”
She countered instantly.
