“Protect me! Protect me, quickly!” the white-robed man shrieked at the two cowering soldiers who hesitated to step forward, his features twisted into a mess of pain and fear. “I am a registered apprentice of the Mage Association! If I die, you will pay with your lives!”
The two soldiers exchanged a glance and rushed forward with the desperation of men pushed to the edge of a cliff.
Their opponent was the legendary evil witch, who could wipe out a village with a wave of her hand and enslave human souls with another.
But if Lord Corey died here, the lords of the Mage Association would surely vent their anger on them. Their entire barracks might be sent into slavery, and their families wouldn't escape either.
It was better to risk their lives to protect Lord Corey. Only if Lord Corey survived would they receive any benefits!
Wu Yao had no intention of engaging them in close combat. Quick as a flash, she cast another Fireball.
These two mobs were actually quite clever, knowing to twist their bodies to the side to dodge. If it had been an arrow, they might have actually succeeded.
Unfortunately, once even a single spark from the Fireball touched them, there was no escaping.
【-20】
The damage was a bit low, but it was enough.
Wu Yao cast three Fireballs in quick succession, successfully securing two kills.
【Killed Common Soldier, EXP +11.6】
【Killed Common Soldier, EXP +11.6】
Why was the EXP a decimal number?
Wu Yao clicked on the details to take a look. As it turned out, her Intelligence attribute gave a bonus to EXP gain. An Intelligence of 8 granted a 16% bonus. She mentally praised herself for the time she had spent rolling her stats earlier.
The only annoying part was that the monsters didn't drop any loot upon death, but this was a common issue with open-world holographic games.
To pursue a realistic, immersive experience, games in recent years all shared similar designs where players had to loot the corpses of mobs themselves. While realistic, it was indeed a hassle.
Wu Yao was in no hurry to collect her loot. She wanted to deal with the other one first.
She turned her head, only to see the white-robed mob's health bar slowly rising. He was frantically pouring a green liquid down his throat!
Is that a health potion? That's definitely a health potion!
This damn mob actually dared to chug the player's health potion!
“If you dare kill me, the entire Mage Association will put a bounty on you!” The white-robed man backed away, trembling all over. His voice shook, and his face was a mess of tears and snot.
She truly was an evil witch, killing two people without even blinking! He had to do everything he could to save himself and report the presence of a witch here to the Mage Association. He would surely receive a massive reward, and then...
A Fireball tore through his chest, leaving behind particles that danced in excitement.
【Killed Mage (Apprentice), EXP +23.2】
He was indeed a slightly higher-level mob, but he was still utterly powerless against a player's Fireball!
Wu Yao still didn't see any auto-loot pop up, so she had to walk over to the corpses and search them herself. Fortunately, casting spells didn't consume stamina, so her short stamina bar could still hold up.
Damaged Apprentice Robe? Trash, she didn't want it.
An exquisite coin pouch containing 1 gold coin and 46 silver coins. She gladly accepted.
A bottle of low-grade healing potion. She gladly accepted.
A practically useless Mage Apprentice Badge. Trash... Well, whatever, she'd take it for now.
A Mage Apprentice's Notebook. She casually flipped through it and pocketed it as well.
And that was it? Wu Yao withdrew her hand in disappointment and stuffed everything into her pockets. Her pants pockets instantly bulged out on both sides. She sighed. Did this game not have an inventory?
The other two mobs didn't even have coin pouches. She searched them thoroughly and only found 1 silver coin and 218 copper coins!
Wu Yao felt deflated. This wasn't even as rewarding as completing a quest.
The villagers had already scattered and fled when the first Fireball appeared. At this moment, only she and the three corpses remained in the square.
Wu Yao frowned and re-examined her quest objectives—escape the pursuers.
So here was the question: where were the pursuers?
To escape pursuers, she at least had to see them first, right?
She waited for a moment, but still saw no sign of any pursuers. After a second of thought, she decided to put the quest out of her mind.
She might as well see what the NPCs were up to now!
In this starting village, there had to be plenty of cute NPCs waiting for a player to trigger their events~
