"The Blessed..."
Wu Shuang frowned, looking at the information.
The name sounded pretty holy and intimidating, but this stuff...
He really couldn't associate an insect-man with the word "holy." Besides, that creature... didn't even possess basic sanity, being nothing more than a complete wild beast.
Fortunately, its effect was good, and Wu Shuang needed it right now, so he didn't dwell on it too much.
Using the medicines he had, including the Spoiled Holy Blessed Grease, he should be able to treat himself. As for pain relievers, he had consulted Doctor Zeng, who said they might help, but could also cause negative side effects.
Because anesthesia would impair Wu Shuang's perception of his own body and the alignment of the joint, making it hard to control his force properly—after all, pain was also the body's warning system...
After weighing his options, Wu Shuang decided not to drink it. Since he had already endured the pain this long, a little while longer wouldn't hurt.
He began following Doctor Zeng's instructions to reset his dislocated elbow joint. The principle was actually very simple: fix the arm in place, adjust the angle, and pop the dislocated joint back in.
Executing it, however, was far more difficult. First came securing his upper arm.
Wu Shuang could only make use of the table in the room, resting his upper arm on it and using his body weight to hold it in place so it wouldn't move.
Normally, he would need another person to press it down, but he had to do it alone.
From there, he had to adjust the angle of his forearm, find the right position, apply force, and shove the joint back into place—simply put, that was it.
However, actually doing it...
Fuck!
Wu Shuang felt the pain in his right elbow joint intensify. It was already swollen, and now it hurt so much that cold sweat covered his forehead, severely hampering his movements. He wasn't sure if Blue Humanity was at play.
Within five minutes of trying, thoughts of giving up and escaping crossed his mind, as it felt even worse than before.
Yet reason told him he had to press on without stopping. If he delayed, he might become permanently disabled, and this was likely his only chance to recover.
Another five minutes passed.
It wasn't a long time, but to Wu Shuang, it felt like an eternity. His clothes were drenched in sweat, yet his right arm remained dislocated. As he constantly fought the urge to resist and give up, he felt sick to his stomach.
If he hadn't remembered to apply the Holy Blessed Grease on the spot, the situation would likely be even worse, as the joint had swollen another ring.
The pain tortured his nerves and stimulated his Humanity.
Suddenly, the entire world seemed to slow down. He had entered Near-Death Time again, even though it was driven purely by pain.
This time, however, he was overjoyed. The slowing of his senses meant he could adjust his force and direction with far greater precision, which was perfect for resetting his elbow joint.
Sure enough, though he wasn't sure how many seconds had passed in the real world, Wu Shuang only needed two attempts in this state before hearing a sharp clack. A wave of intense relief surged through his entire arm—it felt so immensely satisfying, like finally having a bowel movement after a week of constipation.
Much of the pain subsided, though a deep ache lingered; after all, he had put it through a heavy ordeal.
"Finally got it back in place."
Wu Shuang let out a long breath of relief. He had been genuinely worried about becoming a one-armed cripple—that would have been a catastrophic start.
Treating his other injuries was much simpler. He used the scissors he brought back to trim his torn, lifted fingernail. The blades were a bit dull, so the trimming wasn't clean and left quite a bit behind, but it would have to do for now.
After that came enduring the pain of disinfecting, applying the ointment, and using the Blessed's Shedding to bandage the area.
Treating the wounds on his back required a mirror. Though he had only brought back one piece, he managed to apply the ointment after taking some time. He wrapped his back with the soft shedding, tying it around his chest, and applied medicine and bandages to the injuries on his hand and elbow as well.
By the time everything was done, it was past seven o'clock. Wu Shuang's health value began to recover, returning to 61%.
He immediately reported the results to Doctor Zeng, who sent back a thumbs-up emoji.
"Impressive! Even my professor would probably be full of praise for you!"
"It's thanks to you as well. You'll definitely make an excellent doctor..."
Wu Shuang stopped typing, feeling it sounded inauspicious. Besides, this wasn't his old world anymore.
He deleted those last few words, sent the message, and transferred an extra 300 gold coins to Doctor Zeng as a payment of thanks.
"This..."
"Take it. Buy some food and fresh water. Hang in there, and let's work hard to survive together."
"...Thank you."
Next, Wu Shuang bought a box of matches and a brass lock with a key, spending 125 gold coins. The money he had earned earlier suddenly plummeted to under 900—it really vanished quickly.
The items appeared directly in the Hero's Cabinet after the trade, and he took them out. Combined with the oil lamp and kerosene he already had, his lighting problem for the night was now solved.
He glanced at the window. Outside was still bright, even though it was past seven o'clock. It was truly strange—was it due to high latitude causing long days and short nights?
Wu Shuang asked in the chat channel, and someone helped explain that this world was extremely bizarre: when night fell, it was like turning off a light switch—instant darkness. There was no concept of dusk or dawn at all. Furthermore, the timing wasn't fixed, usually falling between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. If one purchased the weather forecast feature, they could even see a more accurate time.
"It can even be like that..."
As a college student, Wu Shuang felt his worldview utterly shattered. If that was the case, what on earth was the sun in the sky—a giant lamp?
He leaned out to take a look, but the angle wasn't right, so he couldn't see it.
He calculated the remaining time. Since there was still a while before nightfall, even though he was a bit hungry, he still wanted to retrieve that gun. It would be trouble if a villager picked it up, not to mention those two light spheres whose nature remained unknown.
Besides, he didn't know how that silver-armored knight was doing—he probably wouldn't steal the gun, right...?
Wu Shuang hesitated for two minutes, clenching his right hand slightly; as long as he didn't apply force, it could still move somewhat.
"I'll just take a look. If anything seems off, I'll run."
He muttered to himself, embarking on his second trip outside today. If there were onlookers or companions, they would probably brand him a reckless fool with a death wish, but he went anyway.
Wu Shuang climbed the ladder to the fourth-floor corridor, carefully guarding his right hand. After observing for a few seconds, he walked toward the window leading directly to the eaves, where the folding ladder was still positioned.
