Chapter 28 · Volume 1

The Two Little Moochers

“Little Yi-Yi, are you really not going to the Ancient Immortal Realm?”
In the bamboo forest, Su Qian looked at Wang Xuanyi, who was drinking heartily from a wine jar, and brought up a topic he might find interesting.
“Perhaps there might be a way to cure Zhu Huai's condition inside.”
“...”
“What? Are you surprised that your big sister knows?” Su Qian blinked, her voice incredibly sultry, sending a ticklish sensation straight to the heart of anyone who heard it.
“Not really. You are practically at the Tribulation Transcendence Realm, Sister. What could possibly be hidden from you?” Wang Xuanyi curled his lips, replying with utter indifference.
“Then are you curious about your big sister's love life?”
Su Qian continued to pry.
“Not at all.”
“How about your big sister's path of cultivation?”
“Uninterested.”
“The color of your big sister's undergarments today?”
“I won't look. I practice celibacy.”
“You aren't interested in this, and you aren't curious about that. Then why are you drinking, little brother?” Su Qian smiled charmingly, her voice alluring and soul-stirring. “Could it be... you are actually interested in your big sister?”
“I'm thirsty.”
Wang Xuanyi replied, utterly speechless.
“...”
For a moment, Su Qian was left completely without a retort.
She was truly defeated by him. This brat, aside from being prone to getting beaten up, had a mouth that was absolutely unmatched.
Just like that, the two drank late into the night.
Su Qian stared speechlessly at the brat in her arms, who was now dead drunk.
“Well, look at you, completely immune to both sweet talk and threats. If it were anyone else sitting next to a beautiful Martial Aunt, they would have used the cover of night to get closer. But you? You're sleeping like a baby.”
While others drank to drown their sorrows, he drank purely because he was thirsty. He got himself completely wasted and happy, then fell asleep right on the spot, utterly regardless of whether anyone else minded.
“Ooh! I have an idea.”
Pulling out some ink from who knows where, Su Qian mischievously drew a few turtles on Wang Xuanyi's left cheek, and then a few rabbits on the other.
Finally, she painted dark rings around his eyes, giving him panda eyes.
Su Qian giggled, thoroughly amused by her own handiwork. Only when spending time with Wang Xuanyi and the others could she let down her guard and smile so freely.
Having finished her masterpiece, Su Qian trotted off on light steps, leaving with a satisfied heart.
The next morning, Wang Xuanyi's ridiculous appearance made everyone struggle to hold back their laughter.
...
Tianyun Peak.
It was as cold and quiet as ever.
The disciples were either cultivating or on their way to cultivate.
Even during their brief moments of free time, Leng Ning'an and the others would not chat to relax; all they talked about was the Ancient Immortal Realm.
Such an oppressive atmosphere made Huo Huang regret her choices.
“Sigh, I thought this peak would be lively. Turns out I was just flattering myself.” Huo Huang lay in the shade of a tree, staring blankly at the sky out of sheer boredom.
She knew cultivation was boring.
But did it have to be this dull? Surely there could be a little more fun.
It wasn't like the neighboring Tianzhu Peak. With just a master and two disciples, they were lively every single day. It made Huo Huang want to join them instead.
“Senior Sisters, Junior Sisters, you must be tired from cultivating. I've just fetched some fresh spring water. Have some water and food, and take a break,” Long Zitian said, carrying a bucket of spring water and a basket of food.
Seeing this, Leng Ning'an stopped practicing her sword, Wen Sining returned from her meditation, the reclining Huo Huang stood up, and Murong Qing, following their lead, woke up from her meditation (which was actually sleeping).
“Thank you, Junior Brother.”
“Thank you, Senior Brother.”
After offering their thanks, the group sat in the shade, drinking water and eating some food.
Since none of them had broken through to the Golden Core Realm yet, they could not truly fast.
During the meal, they were extremely sparse with their words, ignoring one another and just sitting in silence to rest.
Long Zitian wanted to start a conversation, but unfortunately, no one responded.
There was a simple reason for this: he was the first disciple to be put in solitary confinement so soon after entering the sect. Moreover, the time before last, Huo Huang had scolded him for letting his eyes wander, making the girls even more wary of him.
“This tastes awful.”
Murong Qing made a bitter face and spat out the food she had just stuffed into her mouth.
Back home, the little girl had never been a picky eater. She would eat whatever her parents made and frequently visited the food stalls in the city. She could even tolerate the tasteless Fasting Pills.
But this time, she found it truly hard to swallow.
Of course, Murong Qing wasn't the only one who found it unpalatable; the other three felt the same way.
It was just that the other two chose to close their eyes and rest their minds instead of speaking up.
“I want to eat the food Big Brother makes.”
Murong Qing missed the garlic spicy crawfish she had eaten on Tianzhu Peak a month ago. That was her first encounter with such a unique delicacy.
It was incredibly delicious, far better than anything she had ever eaten before.
Having tasted it just once, she could never forget it.
Originally, Murong Qing had planned to visit Tianzhu Peak every day to play with her big brother. But when she went a few times, he was always fast asleep.
After hearing from her master that he needed time to rest and recuperate, she had refrained from visiting, fearing she might disturb him.
Hearing Murong Qing's words, Long Zitian's lips twitched. He forced a smile, offering no rebuttal.
“Xiao Qing, is the food your big brother makes really that good?” Huo Huang's eyes darted around as if she had thought of something. She asked, “Is it even better than what Senior Brother Long makes?”
“Mhm! Ten thousand times better,” Murong Qing replied, blinking her eyes.
“...”
Long Zitian forced a smile as he looked at Huo Huang, speaking in a strained tone. “Junior Sister Huo, there's no need to run down your senior brother like that, is there?”
Huo Huang acted as if she hadn't heard him, smiling as she said, “Little Qing, I heard that Big Brother is already awake. Shall we go over and play with him?”
“Ah! Really?”
Upon hearing this news, Murong Qing's eyes instantly lit up with life.
“Really, really. Your big sister wouldn't lie to you. Do you want to go to Tianzhu Peak to play?”
“Mhm, mhm! I want to go, I want to go!”
“Alright, then. Let your big sister carry you there, okay?”
“Okay!”
Before leaving, she left behind a parting word.
“Senior Sister Leng, Senior Sister Wen, Senior Brother... Long, Qing'er and I will bring back some delicious food!”
With that, Huo Huang picked up Murong Qing and took off, flying on her sword toward Tianzhu Peak.
Leng Ning'an and Wen Sining cracked their beautiful eyes open slightly. Once they confirmed that Huo Huang had left, they closed their eyes completely again, though they shared the exact same thought.
“We'll wait for our junior sister's good news.”
...
Tianzhu Peak.
Today, two "carnivorous guests" had arrived. The meaning was simple: neither of them ate vegetarian food; they only cared for meat, and plenty of it.
“Brother, another serving, please!”
At some point, Huo Huang's way of addressing him had shifted from "Senior Brother" to "Brother" or "Big Brother"—intimate terms meant to bridge the distance between them.
Murong Qing held up her empty plate, copying her. “Big Brother, Qing'er wants more too!”
Mo Yan and Zhu Huai watched the two devouring their food, feeling a bit of pity for the lifestyle on Tianyun Peak while simultaneously feeling grateful that Tianzhu Peak had Wang Xuanyi.
Not only could he whip up amazing dishes, but his winemaking skills were also top-notch.
They never had to worry about food or drink.
“Sheesh, are you two pigs or what?!”
Wang Xuanyi's disgruntled voice drifted over from the kitchen.
His wok was practically smoking from all the tossing, yet those two little ancestors were still eating.
Instead of talking back, the two looked at each other and giggled, shouting back, “Yay! Brother (Big Brother) said we're pigs! We're good little sisters!”
Mo Yan and Zhu Huai were a bit baffled by their bizarre logic, but on second thought, they realized it made sense.
Normally, Wang Xuanyi kept his distance from them, acting polite but detached.
This time, even though he sounded incredibly disgruntled, he had still cooked enough food to fill them up.
Didn't this mean that Senior Brother Wang didn't actually dislike them?
At least, that was exactly what Huo Huang and Murong Qing believed.
