Chapter 241 · Volume 1

Aftermath (1)

Ma Guniang rode the red fish and disappeared into the Yellow River.
And the anomaly in the Xiaoning section of the Yellow River naturally could not be hidden from the rest of the world.
Especially after someone uploaded a high-definition video of the "immortal riding a fish" to the foreign internet, things spiraled completely out of control.
Since the Spiritual Resurgence, the outside world had been plagued by a bloodbath. Great Xia, however, protected its citizens incredibly well. Countless soldiers had used their own flesh and blood to forcefully nip one anomaly after another in the bud.
Ghost-demons?
They would first grope in the dark and experiment, then gradually search for ways to deal with them.
Those that harbored goodwill toward humans and could coexist cooperatively were integrated and reorganized.
Those that were clearly anti-human, anti-social, highly hazardous, and impossible to contain were eliminated by force.
Tangible entities were carpet-bombed by the cannons of truth.
Intangible creatures were hunted down by practitioners working in coordination, who experimented with various methods in turns.
This was how the spirit-locking shackles and the Biological Spiritual Energy Magnetic Field Device came to be.
Logically speaking, Great Xia had already provided the optimal solution in the face of the sudden wave of supernatural events. Unfortunately, not everyone was fortunate enough to be born in the motherland.
Politicians and capitalists of major nations sought only profit, engaging in political games and attacking one another.
Small nations, with their weak national strength and lack of power, found their governments barely able to save themselves when facing supernatural creatures, let alone protect their citizens.
Therefore, as soon as the rumor that "Great Xia has immortals" spread, the gaze of countless people fell once more upon this ancient and mysterious land.
...
In Vatican City, the sky above St. Peter's Square was clear and cloudless. Golden sunlight fell upon the statue of the Virgin Mary, shining on her soft, feminine face. The statue seemed to be smiling.
The new Pope, holding a crucifix, walked slowly from the far end of the crowd. On either side, seekers of the path cheered and kissed the ground.
Holy See knights clad in iron armor held their lances high, while pure, innocent children softly chanted holy hymns.
White robes trailed on the ground. On both sides of the blood-red carpet, white roses bloomed in profusion at the feet of the Virgin Mary.
The shadow in the golden light was projected onto the marble behind the Virgin Mary, faintly piecing together a pair of unfurled wings.
...
Deep in the dense forests of California, America, the witches of Voodoo walked hand in hand, naked, into the river.
Peeled white doves were thrown into the water one by one, their deep crimson blood spreading through the current.
“We gathered here to wash our sins with clean water and celebrate the birth of a powerful witch among our sisters,”
They comforted and embraced one another. The long hair at the backs of their heads entered the water, spreading out like snakes.
A Black woman with distinct racial features spread her arms, letting herself sink to the bottom of the river as she listened to the whispers of her sisters:
“The white dove is worshipped to the Voodoo god, praying for peace and expelling violence.”
“The omnipotent god governs people's words and deeds.”
“We curse all those who have hurt us. We share the same hatred. We are connected by blood. We ask the great and omnipotent Voodoo god to give shelter to our sisters.”
...
In Pennsylvania, America, large wolf-like beasts with brown fur rushed into a farm, biting and tearing at the cattle and sheep raised by the rancher.
“Baa! Baa! Baa!”
“Baa! Baa!”
“Moo! Moo!”
The livestock let out waves of miserable screams and wails. Monsters with human bodies and wolf heads slowly tore at sheep intestines. Their dense teeth were sharp, and a human-like cunning gleamed in their eyes.
“God bless me!”
The rancher, hiding inside the farmhouse, trembled as he clutched a shotgun, repeatedly crossing himself.
Suddenly, the screams outside stopped. Trembling, he poked half his head out to look—
“Roar!”
“Aaaaaaa! Fuck! Aa...”
In the next second, the roars of beasts and the screams of a human intertwined. The sound of tearing flesh echoed through the room.
A splash of still-warm blood splattered, landing right on a family portrait.
...
In Britain, a heavy velvet curtain was raised. Dancers dressed in pure white ballet tutus danced gracefully to the music.
In the darkened audience below, pairs of crimson eyes gleamed brightly in the shadows.
A pale, handsome, slender man raised his head from a female corpse, revealing two sharp, canine-like fangs at the corners of his lips.
In the darkness, elegantly dressed men and women lay slumped across the seats. Without exception, their necks bore two cylindrical puncture wounds.
On stage, the dancers performed with complete focus, entirely unaware that the gentlemen and ladies in the audience had already become food for vampires.
...
In the old Indian lands, both sides of the highway leading to the town were littered with the wreckage of crashed and totaled police cars.
Not far away, a smoking helicopter was burning fiercely.
A three-meter-tall giant with a bare chest and strange patterns painted on his face tore off the limbs of a white man as if playing with a toy.
The road sign behind it was hung with blood-stained hair still attached to scalps, like a heroic warrior displaying trophies to everyone.
The blonde head rolled onto the ground, a layer of haze clouding its deep blue eyes.
“Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz...”
A thumb-sized fly landed on the dead man's eyeball. In the next instant, the corpse blinked.
...
In Japan, the once-bustling Ginza was exceptionally desolate. Its former glitz and glamour had vanished without a trace.
As the night surged, the Slit-Mouthed Woman, Rain Woman, and Human-Faced Dog wandered through the streets and alleys.
A giant Human-Headed Balloon stretched out its long, snake-like, soft, and slimy neck, singing outside the shrine:
“I found you...”
On its massive head were sixteen eyes as clear as a baby's. Its long black hair hung down, almost completely enveloping the entire shrine:
“Who should be 'it' next? It's your turn. It's your turn to be 'it'. Don't be a sore loser...”
Twelve young girls dressed in red and white shrine maiden robes sat back-to-back in the center of a salt circle, holding bows and arrows. Behind them, the believers repeatedly bowed their heads and prayed.
The weirds lingered outside the shrine, refusing to leave, and some people began to sob quietly.
Suddenly, someone's mind snapped, and they screamed as they rushed out of the salt circle:
“Let's go to Great Xia! That's the only way to survive! There are real gods there! Amaterasu has already abandoned Japan! This is a land abandoned by the gods!”
In the next instant, his chest was pierced by a long tongue.
“Found you.”
Through the hole in the wall, the massive monstrosity revealed an innocent smile.
