“Impossible! How could you not have drunk that tea! I clearly saw you—”
Huaguzi shrieked, and the One Eyed Immortal beside her was equally horrified. With their level of cultivation and vision, they had not even noticed when Nan Zhi had swapped the tea in the cup! How was this possible?
“I just made a swallowing motion for you to see,” Nan Zhi said with a cold laugh. She did not say much more; the Fish Dragon Guillotine in her hand whirled as she kicked off the ground, charging straight at the One Eyed Immortal with a slash—
“You brat, how dare you!” The One Eyed Immortal’s face paled as he retreated several yards, leaping up to cling to the stone wall. At the same time, he flicked his right hand, sending several streaks of golden light shooting toward Nan Zhi like meteors—
They were countless copper coins, round with square holes, now transformed into lethal hidden weapons!
“Clang, clang, clang! Clang, clang!”
Nan Zhi swung the Fish Dragon Guillotine, knocking away all the projectiles in a series of crisp metallic rings.
“Huaguzi, help me!” Seeing himself locked in a stalemate with this demon suppressor, the One Eyed Immortal grew anxious. Fearing that Huaguzi might be holding back out of some hidden motive, he shouted again, “This brat is hard to deal with! Do not let her escape!”
“Stop your yapping, I am here!” Huaguzi finally flicked the exquisite Cloud Gauze Kerchief in her hand, casting it toward the space above the two of them!
The kerchief expanded rapidly in mid air like a blooming flower, its light becoming increasingly blinding as if it intended to swallow Nan Zhi whole.
Nan Zhi had already witnessed the power of this treasure when it swallowed the two snake spirits, so she retreated fiercely. With a wave of her long sleeve, a large red skinned gourd flew toward the Cloud Gauze Kerchief with extreme agility, spraying several streams of putrid green venom!
“Sizzle! Sizzle!” The venom splashed onto the kerchief, followed by the sound of searing heat. Several scorched black holes appeared on the previously pristine Cloud Gauze Kerchief!
Nan Zhi pressed her advantage, swinging the Fish Dragon Guillotine down with a heavy blow. The One Eyed Immortal’s eyes widened in terror as he hastily summoned a massive copper coin to block her path—
“CLANG!!”
“My Cloud Gauze Kerchief! One Eyed Immortal, show your true strength, or are you just waiting to die?!” Huaguzi shrieked in fury, looking as if she wanted to skin Nan Zhi alive. She began chanting under her breath before suddenly spitting out a cloud of purple insect mist that scattered in all directions!
“Buzz, buzz, buzz! Buzz, buzz! Buzz, buzz!”
The insect mist expanded rapidly, forming a thick purple cloud. Countless tiny insects writhed and flew within the mist, creating a deafening buzzing sound.
The surrounding ghosts and demons paled at the sight and began to retreat in a panic.
But Huaguzi’s focus was not on the crowd. She stared fixedly at Nan Zhi, her eyes brimming with rage and killing intent. Now that the girl had tricked the truth out of that fool One Eyed Immortal, leaving her alive would only lead to endless trouble! Today, one of them had to die!
Her killing intent surged as Huaguzi cast the rules of the Ruyi Pavilion to the back of her mind, directing the poisonous insects to swarm toward Nan Zhi!
This insect mist was her ultimate move; she had raised these poisonous insects within her own internal organs, nourishing them with her own flesh and blood and various poisons. Because of this, the insects were mentally linked to her, making them incredibly efficient killers.
“Bring it on!” Nan Zhi leaped into the air, landing on the iron chains that connected the grottoes. She reached into her sleeve and pulled out two sheets of white paper, bit her index finger to dot them with blood, and then blew on them. Two figures immediately leaped down from the paper!
This was the Paper Skin Art she had realized from the 【Painted Skin Manual】!
The paper figures carried Nan Zhi’s aura, and they dashed along the iron chains toward the higher grottoes, one to the left and one to the right. The insect mist wavered before finally splitting into three; two of the swarms broke off to chase the paper figures—
The light paper figures scrambled up the chains, weaving nimbly through the guards who had come to arrest them. By a stroke of luck, the insect mist, unable to catch its targets for so long, actually began to go berserk within the pavilion!
The guards chased the paper figures, and the paper figures dodged the insect mist—it was a total mess.
This commotion drew loud laughter from many of the ghosts in the pavilion. The fat ghost lying at the bottom of the hall shrieked,
“Guards! Someone is causing trouble in the pavilion!”
“Where are the pavilion guards! Some suicidal fools are making trouble in here!”
“Quick!! Catch them! I want to skin them alive! I will use their bones to make bowls, their skin to make clothes, and chop their flesh to feed the hungry ghosts!”
The security of the Ruyi Pavilion turned out in full force. Towering ghosts howled as they approached, while the hungry ghosts under their command opened their bloody maws, drool dripping from their teeth!
The surrounding ghosts and demons grew excited at the sight. They began to cheer loudly, egging on both sides in hopes of seeing a fight to the death.
Some of the drunken ghosts even began to place bets, speculating on who would win the battle.
“You there, dark faced lady! What skill! Such nimble movements!”
“Kill! Kill! Kill!”
“Hurry up and chop off her limbs to feed the hungry ghosts! Heh heh heh, but leave the heart and liver for me. The heart and liver of such a sturdy person will be the most delicious snack to go with my wine!”
“I like her eyes! Do not you dare fight me for them later!”
“I will bet twenty paper gold that the black robed lady wins! If I lose, I will give you one of my eyes!”
“I will bet two years of Yin life that the black woman wins!”
“Heh heh heh, I think they are all going to be be dragged off to feed the hungry ghosts!”
“Damn it.” Nan Zhi saw the pavilion guards charging straight at her, cursed under her breath, and simply threw the red skinned gourd out—
“Buzz, buzz, buzz...”
Although those insects were only the size of a thumb and looked exactly like ants, their power was terrifying. The remaining swarm of insects threw themselves onto the gourd one after another. Although a floor's worth of them were corroded to death by the acidic liquid, their sheer numbers prevailed. Within moments, the poisonous insects had chewed a large hole in the head of the gourd!
That was a treasure she had confiscated from Ma San!
She had only used it once!
Nan Zhi was heartbroken, but she did not stop her movements. She threw out two pearls and vanished into a cloud of mist. When she reappeared, she was already behind the One Eyed Immortal!
“CLANG!” The copper coins around the One Eyed Immortal stacked together to form a layer of hard armor, managing to tank a strike from Nan Zhi. However, he had not expected Nan Zhi to have strength left to spare; she summoned a bolt of lightning that blasted the One Eyed Immortal off the iron chain, sending him plummeting straight into the midst of the pavilion guards!
Countless hungry ghosts swarmed over him, tearing and ripping frantically. The One Eyed Immortal only had time to let out a single blood curdling scream before he was transformed into a pile of mangled flesh and white bone in the next instant:
“AAAAAAHHH!!”
“Crunch, crunch...”
“Crunch, crunch...”
“Gulp, gulp...”
Accompanied by heart stopping, hair raising sounds of swallowing, one of the ghosts suddenly opened its bloody maw wide, revealing sharp, jagged fangs as it chewed voraciously.
On its hideous, twisted face was an expression of extreme greed and cruelty. Suddenly, the ghost jerked its head up, its sickly green eyes flickering with an endless, bottomless desire, as if it wanted to devour the entire world.
This desire acted like a powerful force, locking onto the person clinging to the iron chains above.
In the next heartbeat, without waiting for the guards to give an order, these hungry ghosts swarmed upward like a rising tide, scrambling up the iron chains like a pack of beasts swimming against the current!
Escape! Standing opposite each other, the same thought flashed simultaneously through the minds of Nan Zhi and Huaguzi.
