Chapter 115 · Volume 1

This Is a Miracle

Yang Shugao’s parents saw Qin Yue and Zhang Yue behind her. Assuming they were acquaintances of their son, they hurriedly made way and thanked them profusely. “How thoughtful of you. Hearing that our Gaogao woke up, you even came all this way to see him... Thank you, thank you so much.”
Qin Yue did not correct them. Instead, she stared at Yang Shugao, carefully observing his expression.
Yang Shugao’s vocal cords were damaged, and having gone without speaking for so long, talking took immense effort.
Yet his spirits were high, and a light shone in his eyes.
The moment he saw Qin Yue, his entire body seemed to come alive. His eyes lit up with endless brilliance as he turned his head toward her and parted his lips. “Qin... Qin...”
He must have retained his memories from his time in the ghost building.
She just did not know why he was so eager to see her.
“I’m Qin Yue.”
Qin Yue took a step forward, leaning down close to his mouth. “You wanted to see me because you have something to tell me? I’m here. No need to rush. You can wait until you recover a bit, then tell me everything you want to say and ask.”
“Really... didn’t... lie... to me...”
The wild joy in Yang Shugao’s eyes was impossible to hide. He strained to shift his gaze toward his right fist, which he had kept tightly clenched. “There’s... there’s...”
His right fist was loosely closed, as if holding onto something he refused to let go.
A thought struck Qin Yue. Following the direction of his force, she gently pried Yang Shugao’s hand open.
It was a small porcelain bottle.
The bottle was exquisitely made, plain without any patterns, inexplicably evoking the feeling of something from a period drama.
“What is this?”
Yang Shugao’s parents seemed equally astounded. “Where did this come from? How come we’ve never seen it before?”
“Dream... dream... fire... Ma... Guniang... eat...”
A tear escaped Yang Shugao’s eye, trailing across his scarred, uneven skin and sinking into the pillow. “Eat... eat... medicine...”
Every word cost him immense effort, yet Qin Yue still managed to grasp the underlying meaning.
“You mean you saw Ma Guniang in your dream, as well as me, and Ma Guniang told you to swallow this medicine? But you weren’t sure if it was just a dream, so you wanted to see me to confirm whether it was real?”
Qin Yue took the small medicine bottle and pulled out the stopper. Instantly, a faint fragrance of sweet osmanthus drifted through the air. “Did Ma Guniang say what kind of medicine this is?”
Yang Shugao blinked hard and squeezed out two slurred words: “Heal... injuries...”
Through Yang Shugao’s halting description, Qin Yue finally pieced together what he was trying to convey:
During the entire time Yang Shugao had been in a coma, he kept dreaming that he was trapped in a fire—dazed, muddled, and lost in a fog.
He constantly repeated his urge to “save people.” Although he vaguely understood that he shouldn't be trapped there, he had no strength to escape.
That was until a woman suddenly appeared before him. Claiming to be a ghost, she spoke to him and asked who he was.
In his confusion, Yang Shugao gave her his identity and begged her to take him away.
The woman merely shook her head and smiled mysteriously. “The fate to save you does not lie with me. Shortly, a person named Qin Yue will come to save you. Seeing as you ended up trapped here without relief for so long all because you saved others, your disposition aligns well with this old lady's liking. I have here a wound medicine refined by the Mountain Lord, so I shall grant it to you. When you return to your physical body, you will naturally know how to use it.”
As for what happened after...
Yang Shugao could not remember clearly. He only knew that Ma Guniang stuffed something into his palm and gave him a gentle shove.
In his daze, he heard someone calling his name. When he opened his eyes again, he was in the hospital ward.
“It’s Ma Guniang!”
Zhang Yue gasped softly, while Qin Yue’s eyes gleamed with brilliant light.
“What Ma Guniang or Wang Guniang? That was all just a dream! How can you take words from a dream seriously?”
Standing to the side, Yang Shugao’s parents finally understood after listening for a while.
Their son had dreamed of this young woman named Qin Yue and dreamed of someone giving him a bottle of medicine.
And when he woke up, there really was a bottle of medicine in his hand!
No matter how one looked at it, this whole situation was chilling to the bone.
When Yang Shugao was in a coma, his parents had taken care of him day in and day out—washing his body, inserting and removing catheter bags, changing his clothes...
Naturally, the two elderly people knew every inch of what was on Yang Shugao's body.
Neither of them had ever seen this bottle of medicine that had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Wiping away her tears, Yang’s mother tried to reason with her son. “Gaogao, things you dream about are all fake. Who knows where this mystery object came from or if it's poisonous? What if eating it does something bad to your body?”
“Exactly! Your mother is right. How could something from a dream be real? You’ve been asleep for so long, it’s only normal that you can’t tell reality from dreams. Didn’t the doctor say you need time to readjust?”
Yang’s father did not support Yang Shugao’s decision either. A touch of sorrow crept into his resolute face. “Gaogao, don’t be afraid. Science and technology are so advanced now. Once your health improves a bit, we’ll take you to Jingbei, or even abroad, to find good plastic surgeons...”
“Eat...”
Yang Shugao shook his head. That single motion alone seemed to drain all the remaining strength from his body. “I... trust... Ma... Guniang... Qin... Yue...”
Qin Yue hesitated repeatedly, but in the end, she decided to honor Yang Shugao’s personal wishes.
She poured two small red pills from the porcelain bottle and fed them to him.
The pills were tiny, barely larger than grains of rice. Yang Shugao swallowed them easily without even needing water.
“You stubborn child, why won’t you listen?! Doctor! Doctor!”
Yang Shugao’s parents spun around in a panic and pressed the emergency call button. But in the very next second, both elderly parents froze in place.
Yang Shugao blinked with a look of mild discomfort. Suddenly, half a piece of skin sloughed off his face.
It was a palm-sized piece of dry, pale skin.
!
!!
!
Everyone present froze on the spot.
Yet in that single second of hesitation, they witnessed a sight even more bizarre and mysterious.
Have you ever seen a snake shed its skin?
To grow stronger, a snake casts off its old skin, slowly crawling out of the shrivelled, rough outer shell to reveal a fresh, healthy layer of scales underneath.
Yang Shugao was experiencing the exact same thing.
In the blink of an eye, it was as if a violent chemical reaction took place across his entire body.
His face, head, neck—every spot bearing burn marks—cracked open in large patches, resembling parched earth fractured by drought.
Rustle... rustle...
Tender pink flesh rapidly grew beneath, as countless flakes of white skin constantly flaked off. The scabbed areas quickly turned black, dried up, and fell away.
Beneath the hideous scars that had previously healed over, a soft rosy-pink hue emerged. Blood circulated through his skin once more, giving the epidermis a healthy blush.
In just a few breaths, Yang Shugao had transformed completely!
Apart from his smooth, hairless head that resembled a peeled egg, eighty percent of the burned skin on his body had fully regenerated.
Except for a few faint hypertrophic scars left behind by the rapid growth, one could hardly tell he had suffered severe burns.
This process was like fresh young grass sprouting or willow shoots growing in early spring—accelerated countlessly fast right before everyone’s eyes.
Even he had not anticipated this. He sat frozen on the hospital bed, letting the old, shed skin wrap around him in clumps. “What... what is happening?”
Every face in the room was etched with shock and utter disbelief.
These changes were happening right in front of them.
Even the greatest magician in the world could not perform such a miracle of life.
!!
“He’s healed! He’s healed! Sobbing... Our Gaogao is healed!!”
Yang Shugao’s parents rushed forward, crying and laughing at the same time. “Gaogao! Are you okay? Does it hurt? How do you feel?!”
“He’s healed! He’s healed! Thank you Bodhisattva, thank you God, thank you immortals, thank you Lord Heaven! Just thank you, thank you! Heaven has opened its eyes! Heaven has opened its eyes!”
Zhang Yue stood dumbfounded, trying to process everything she had just witnessed. “What is this?! How is this possible?! Magic? Spells?”
This was no fake. Those scars had truly, tangibly vanished.
All from just two tiny pills.
Even though she was used to having her lifelong worldviews shattered after joining the Special Investigation Bureau, seeing this unfold before her eyes still felt wildly absurd.
“No, neither.”
Qin Yue stared at the newly grown skin, a smile curling up at the corner of her lips. “This is a miracle brought by a soft-hearted deity.”
